Great video man don’t be afraid to show your whole daily routine waking up in your RV cooking breakfast going into the job and don’t be afraid to go to basic with all the pipeline, welding, terminology and techniques. Most of us have basic welding knowledge but not anything about your awesome occupation.
Awesome video! Planning on trying to get into the local 601 steamfitters soon, in a pre-apprenticeship program right now getting some welding experience and certifications. Love the rig btw! Personally a GM guy but it’s hard to deny the bad-assery that is a 4th gen Cummins dually welding rig.
Love the truck man. I’m a macoupin county boy originally living in Oklahoma right now welding for one gas doing distribution stuff now. Be safe out there
Deadly content man, would love to know how you got your start and some more about your career, im sure you’ve got some good stories over the years lol Liked and subscribed 👍🏻 hope this channel blows up for y’a bud Cheers from Canada
Thanks. It’s used to hook our grounds to. It holds our grounds and makes sure we ground through a specific point on the weld instead of randomly arcing to the pipe.
Really enjoying your channel! I have a nephew that’s graduating from high school this spring that told me yesterday that he wants to be a pipeline welder. Looking for any suggestions or contacts as far as training, career path, etc. that you can suggest. Thank you in advance!
So if you ever have to weld off of the truck is there anything special you have to do the truck? I got my first mobile weld job coming up and I have a vise that mounts in my trailer hitch. Wasn’t sure if using my portable generator to power my Lincoln MP 210 would mess up anything electrical on my truck if I weld from the hitch vise.
Keep the ground close to what you’re working with. Basically, make sure you don’t have a computer between your ground and your stinger. But you should be doing that anyway, even off the truck. Same theory as when you’re welding the vehicle. The only time I’ve seen issue was in a couple of upfitter shops when I worked for Peterbilt. Some of them would ground the chassis in a central location and then move all around the truck welding tabs, brackets or whatever. It was rare, but I’d see blown fuses or a fried EMC or body control module… worst one was a brand new fire truck. I was there for a week chasing wires. Turned out to be a fuseable link behind the dash.😳
I didn’t actually. I probably should though. The knee pads are Clc brand. They’re the only one I’ve found that have leather straps and made of rubber so they don’t burn up. I love them.
Explain what you mean by welding uphill or downhill. That’s a new one to me. I’ve worked pipeline as an operator. Did most of my time on Tact rigs, hoes and rubber tired hoes mainly.
Uphill is when you start at the bottom of the pipe and weld to the top. Mostly done in plants and refineries. Downhill is when you start at the top and weld to the bottom, pipeline.
In the years that I worked pipeline, I’d see this and never knew it had a name or heard it called that. I’ve got several friends in Local 798, I guess it was always assumed the everyone knew what it was called. Thanks for filling me in!
Getting out of the military soon need a blue collar job can’t go to the office would definitely love some info on the pipeline please shoot me a message would love to chat!!!
I have been retired for 10 years. This sure brought back some memories.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

With you helping there’s a 100% chance of it happening!
Can’t get you to leave any metal in the bottom!!
Looks awesome, would love to learn about which welding rods you’re using for each pass and why.
I’ll definitely cover that in an upcoming video.
Hell yeah
Thanks for commenting!
Ughhhh I miss pipelining
Thanks for the comment!
Ive got 20 hrs total welding under my belt. Im ready.
Hahahaha.
Beautiful truck. What exactly is the grasshopper used for? Google didn't put it as far into layman's terms as I needed it lol. Love the videos!

I’ll have a video covering this really soon. I’ve had a lot of questions about this specifically.
Get him a welder and a bunch of rod and start practicing.

You’ll be just fine. I don’t work off of this truck but i have worked off of every other truck I’ve owned without any problems at all welding on them.
@@DownhillWelder300 thank you
No problem.

32 years welding about the only thing I haven't done.
Stay tuned, I’m planning on showing a LOT more of the whole process.
A big fan...i need a test bud...let me know...!??
Notice propane torch, for preheating?🤔
Yep. Have to preheat since it was below 50 degrees.

Sure thing!
Any guys on the pipeline drive any ford 6.0? Like the content.
They were more common years ago. Not so much anymore.
what's like a good beginner stick welder for like home projects ?
Anything DC. You don’t want to mess around with an AC stick welder starting out.
Where are y’all welding at cause my uncle welds too
Peoria Illinois.
Whos the xray company on that job? ( use to do xray )
We use Prime and Janx.
Inspectors always on phone lol
Always!! lol
Are you union?
Yes, local 597.
Why is the guy walking around with a multimeter ?
GOD bless
That’s the inspector. He’s checking the amps and volts as I’m welding to make sure i stay in the limits of the weld procedure.
Man wish I was out there welding. It's been a long winter sitting at home. lol
I know the feeling!
Awesome video
Thanks!
Always a dream to quit millwrighting at home and make real money traveling
There’s definitely pros and cons to it!
To me it appears that your Helper doesn't care much about His EYE's !
He get's them burnt a couple of times, he will. When I first started as a helper, It only took once for me.
Yall needing any helpers
Thanks for the comment. Not right now.
