Alcaraz has improved his backhand so much this tournament. It is more of a weapon, and a dictating shot, rather than the counterpunch stroke it used to be.

Despite the Olympic games, he didn't play much this season because he was injured for a few masters tournaments. People have attributed his poor matches against VDZ, and Monfils as playing too many matches but it was more mental fatigue after the Olympics than anything else. Physically he is in better shape than last year for the last stretch of the season. And let us not forget he only played 2 rounds of US open!
He's been in crazy shape since Indian Wells. He got injured in Miami and missed most of the clay swing then came back and won Roland Garros, Wimbledon and Olympic Silver medal. Then had a bad phase due to fatigue. Now he's back in form feeling fresh and hungry.
Alcaraz has always been an exceptional player, technically he can do anything in a tennis court. My impression is that since the Davis Cup he's been less concerned with "giving a show" and more focused in winning matches. If that really is the case, watch out, Carlitos will be extremely difficult to stop.
Bit he is still playing his game volleys drop shots moving around on the court .. no boring rallies from the baseline just hitting hard . He game is exciting and very fun to watch

Wild how mentally refreshed he seems after the dip in form in Cincinnati and the US Open. Feels like being able to play a bit more loose and freely in Laver Cup with minimal pressure has really set him up to continue it in to the rest of the tour. He's looked insanely good his last few matches. Suppose Medvedev will be the proper test to see where he's at with his form now.
Peak Alcaraz comfortably beats peak Sinner. Across the year, average Sinner is considerably better than average Alcaraz. Who wins in the final, if they both make it through, depends on who turns up.
Not on fast hardcourt thought. They met last year in this tournament. Alcaraz played lights out during the first set and still lost it, then couldn't maintain his level and got eaten by Sinner. This year they played in 2 of Alcaraz's best conditions and both times it was really hard for Carlos. If prime version of Spaniard meets prime version of the italian, surface can be very impactful
@@АндрейШелест-т8вSinner also has twice the titles this year as at now, and a few more if we count last 12 months, so definitely the better player overall on tour atm and deservedly the no 1. Carlos has improved a lot on faster hard courts, his down the line shots are much better, his backhand is now flatter and more lethal, his serve is turning into a weapon with better placement, he returns deep, he is hitting his spots really well. Very nice to see. The true test will be against Yannick, when Carlos is rushed for time, can he maintain his agressive pace and shot placement? Carlos seems fresh and hungry, this bodes well for his next two matches!
Yeah, he didn't do great around this time last year, so I bet he's eager to improve it. And I think it's only the faster hard courts like Beijing, Shanghai that he needs to improvise, I think the slower courts like Indian Wells and Miami he's pretty good on
i think grigors advice helped big time. more than we know. he is definitely being more aggressive overall, but still playing the percentages. which is perfect

You’re absolutely right, he was in a good position for lobbing or even try to turn around quickly and hit a forehand, in any case better than try a useless tweener resulted to drop out of the corner(kacha doesn’t even have that level of skill/sensibility to produce that kind of shot). Only if you’re behind the baseline or close to it running back with the ball getting far from you it’s a good idea to go between the leg, just because you’re practically out of the point and is the last desperate chance to get back into it
