This is the most beautiful work of art I`ve ever seen done in polymer clay, I am a total newbie in this but you have given me the confidence to give it a try, would be nice to say "I did this broach at age 73" lol Thank you sooo much for sharing your special gift with us!
Lovely instructional video. Voice over plus written words are awesome. The added reminder that we can use the settings to slow down the speedy sections was nice . Awesome design. Loosing track of time is a common thing when reading. One second its ten pm the next its the morning and i havent slept a wink
I’m pleased to hear that I’m not the only one who gets so absorbed in creating that I forget everything else! Great video thank you for sharing your great talent!
Yes, it's so easy to get fully absorbed isn't it, I guess we are very lucky to have something we do that allows us to escape like that :) Thanks Susan :)
Fiona, you are an inspiring artist.......oh, and a great tutor too!!! I love this tutorial and I love the piece you created. As a beginner I’ve been watching so many videos on how to work with polymer clay. I rate this one of my top videos. I believe that I can make this piece so I can’t wait for the weekend so I can start my project. Thanks for a wonderful tutorial and for sharing your knowledge and skills. ❤️👌
Fiona I have watched this video 5 times now and tried to make mine look similar to yours but I keep having a problem with making my canes!!!! I guess it will just take time to get it right!!!! Anyway, thank you for such a great video!!!
I am glad you enjoyed it, but oh, how frustrating :( yes, sadly it's normally a case of time and constantly doing it. Is it also a case of you being your own worst critic though? We all have a tendency to do that, you are probably doing a lot better than you give yourself credit for. :)

Your tutorials are brilliant, and I love how you include tips for those of us with long ones...nail tips that is a 😁😁😁. I was agonizing over leaves earlier today, I wish I had this then, my next leaves will be mind blowing 🙄
I love to watch your videos , it’s so great from you to share with all of us. I must cost so much time to explain and show us this beautiful creations. ❤️🙏 thank u some much
What a nice piece of art! Just stunning! I'm a beginner polymer clay "artist" and these videos help a lot. Another thing I'v picked up from other tutorials, is you can put your cane in the fridge. That way it hardens up a bit and is easier to cut slices without distortion. Love from Norway
Fiona, this is one of the best tutorials you've done, and that's really saying something! Easy enough for even beginner caners to do, with an extraordinarily beautiful result. Quick question - how do you slice strips of clay on your laminated grid without cutting/scratching the surface of the plastic laminate sheet? Thanks so much!
Thanks so much Margaret. Most of the time the blade doesn't really cut into the laminate at all, so I can reuse them again and again. Sometimes, though I do nick, or cut into one a bit, and once that happens they start to get worse, so I normally replace them, or just use the plain backside to store sheets of clay on. They hold up better than you would think though. I have a whole pile of them that I use all the time, and I also laminate a whole bunch at a time when the old ones start getting tatty :)

Yes. It is much easier to add the bottom afterwards when the top part, and that thin outer wall is baked and hard. You can of course do it all in one, but finding the right place to put the brooch fastening, while not distorting everything else is tricky at best. I try to do things in a way that makes a good final result easier for those who are relatively new to polymer clay. I also do it to reinforce the fact that you can bake polymer multiple times, so that people can slowly build up a piece through multiple baking's and get good results. I hope that helps answer your question Lilette, which was a good one to ask. :)
Great video. I am new at polymer clay, but I wouldn't think blowing on the resin to remove bubbles would be a good idea. My thinking is that you would run the risk of injecting moisture into the resin. Someone told me to use heat to remove bubbles, a match or a lighter provides enough heat for the bubbles to burst without harming the clay. I will try making some cherry blossom canes and see how it goes. Thank you.
Thanks Julie, yes using heat does work too, but I didn't have that option at the time, and gently blowing does work if you don't have access to a lighter etc. :)
