  • In this step by step tutorial I take you through how to create this sweet ‘Square Dance’ cane which I then use as a veneer to pattern a domed pendant and earrings. This is an easy cane which should give good results for all levels of polymer clay enthusiasts.
    The tutorial gives tips and techniques throughout and is based on one of my own designs.
    This technique can be used to create all manner of polymer pieces and will hopefully be a starting point for you creating your own designs. I hope you enjoy the video.

    Don,t you put any varnish on the finish product. If I do , is it wrong. Can I use my kitchen oven to bake it or it is not recommended. Thank you again for sharing your creations

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes of course you can varnish :) Personally I prefer the wonderful smooth finish you get when you sand and polish, so do that where I can. If I can't sand and polish then I use polymer clay varnish, or one of the many other finishes you can use :) Yes, you can use your own oven to bake in, I always tent my tile in foil to protect the clay should the oven spike in temperature. For all technical questions like these, have you come across The Blue Bottle Tree, by Ginger Allman Davis? Her site has the most amazing articles about whatever you need to know on polymer clay - she is the technical guru, and we all look at her detailed research and articles - thebluebottletree.com/ I hope that helps :)

      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it does, I do know how to do that and have a tutorial I am planning to publish (one of a long list) where I share how I do my hollow beads, which is probably a little different to others. But that was going to be a paid for tutorial, as it will include lots of my tips and secrets. Sadly I am having to do a balance against what I do for free, and what I have to ask to be paid for, as like most artists I need to get some cash coming in from my clay too ;) I hope you understand :)

      Firstly remember not to be too hard on yourself if it doesn't come out exactly right, but, yes, this is quite an easy cane so you should have some nice results with it. If it doesn't come out the same as mine, kaleidoscope it anyway, you will be surprised how good things look when you do that. I love being an optimist, it opens up so many opportunities ;)

    How many does this amount of Polymer clay make.

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest that completely depends on how thick you cut your slices ;) Also the use you want to put them to. If you wish to sand your final piece you will need them thicker, if you are not then they can be as thin as you cut them, in which case of course, they could cover quite an area. I have never exactly measured how far they would cover - maybe something for another tutorial ;) Thank you :)
