All Gryzor ROM's have music. He did a vid recording trick and merged the music with sound. Normally, you can only have either music or sound, not both. To enable between music/sound, press esc at the main menu before beginning game.
@iniche It was known as Gryzor in Europe and some Island regions. It was known as Contra everywhere else. It was Ocean that was Licensed by Konami to "produce" ports of Contra for computers, but it was Konami that developed the game. In fact, the first Japanese release of "Contra" on the Famicom had extra content in the game that was left out of the American NES release because Nintendo of Japan permitted Konami of adding their own mappers to the game. So, I suggest u stop PMS'n over "Gryzor".
@WeskerSega What are you talking about? Neither Sega nor Konami changed these titles for "being ashamed". If that was the case, they just didn't have released anything in the first place. The change from Contra to Gryzor was due to the Iran-Contra incident, which took place at that time - the arcade game was renamed like that in Europe too. As for the Mega Drive, it was renamed Genesis in America for license reasons, because the "Mega Drive" name was already registered by another company.
@popoyt Pitfall or Jet Set Willy... there was no scrolling too ;D probably could not be done smooth Contra with this such a nice graphics on Amstrad because of it's hardware limits :)
@GamingPalooza Yeah. It reminds me how Sega of America did something pretty similar with a console back then. They were so ashamed of the Mega Drive, they called it a different name to disguise it!
Having some trouble with the laser there? :) Also, at the base, it might've worked better to jump on that little ledge right as the black shots disappeared, then jumping onto the middle ledge. Would've made it easy to toast that one guy.
@iniche Why don't you get some tampax? Anyways... Ya, Konami authorized Ocean to port the game but Ocean only produced the ports, go look it up. These games were ported off of what Konami developed already. There is a difference between producing and developing, and you might want to get your facts straight. Also, "Tampax", available at your local Walmart or CVS, invest in them.
Have you played the Amstrad version? If so, can you tell me: How to get music and sound at the same time? Mine, I can only have one or the other. If you beat the game, did your version have a Snowfield section? It seems there is none.
You know what? Except for the screens not scrolling smoothly along I think that the game's graphics are just as good as, if not a touch better, than the Nintedo's. The sound is obviously not as good but this actually looks a bit more like the arcade than the NES. Nintendo was notorious for having developers take arcade games and putting their own look and play to them... for example: strider, bionic commando, TMNT, robocop and countless others.
@iniche Wrong... Wrong.. wrong... Ocean did not develop anything.. they just produce it and distributed it... look The Commadore 64 version of it Publisher:Ocean Developer:Konami Genre:2D Platformer Release Date:1988 well, what do you know?? Do you see who the developer is? Do you see who the publisher is?? Well... maybe you will learn something today. Ocean only produced most of the copies and ported the CPC copy.
@GamingPalooza It's hard not to "PMS" when your comments are so full of inaccuracy. And boy are you wrong when you say Konami developed this port. Where did you get that information from? Yourself? You just guessed that and believe that's correct. The European home computer ports of Gryzor were developed in-house by Ocean. Konami was NOT part of that development team, just because their name is on the title screen.
@Holothurion Dude, you should revise your sense of irony. Either that, or save your reply for GamingPalooza. Do you really think I didn't know everything you just said? My comment was just a mockery answer to what GamingPalooza wrote before.
The NES version that was nothing like the arcade original? Nah..I'll take a proper arcade conversion thanks. This Amstrad version was the best version of Gryzor/Contra available on ANY home gaming system until Mame rose to prominence. If you seriously think the NES version looks better and is a more accurate arcade port than this, then you obviously never played the arcade version.I would have given my left leg for my C64 version to have been this good.

Game over now rewind your cassette and wait 45mins to reload level 1 lol, i spent many a saturday morning playing this when i was a kid.
the best version on any home conversion.
Oh man that Amstrad had beautiful scrolling!
This and "Army Moves" i think were the best action games on the Amstrad
The best 8 bit conversion of Gryzor bar none. Shame about the lack of scrolling though.
What a game,i still remember it :)
@iniche

hey - i just noticed! maybe someone should make a quip about the how good it is?
it's how all the euro Ocean games were :)

lol Konami was so ashamed of this port, they called it a different name to disguise it.
was there even a second level? nobody knows
from what i can tell, the only thing superior about this platform is the color pallet
For music and FX you need to have 128K of ram.
But, why stage 2's BGM?

@iniche hey calm down, i was just responding to a previous comment that was saying "what a beautiful scrolling".
@GamingPalooza but graphics are very good for 8bit version. they fcked with no-scroll and stuff. rest is decent
Yeah, but you can't do both at the same time.
NES version is the best and Super C even better.
Are you wesker500?
Holy fuck... NES version ftw
Oh no not Ocean.
Tehe... the first gun sounds like a spud-gun ^^
this is not that bad that konami had to rename it
still looks cool shame about the scrolling. this game was rock hard.
Hey you're Wesker! Can you give me autograph? :D

? Is it a joke ? There's no scrolling here.
Cover looks like an Arnie predator ripoff.
