I grew up in a small country farm and I loved tennis of course, but to get to hear their accents. Now thirty-nine years later and serving in the Navy, I sill love tennis and learned a lot.
Great upload, and thanks...although... I get that the USTA/CBS relationship didn't end on the best of terms and that right now, ESPN is the obviously place to air the tourney because of how much airtime it can give the U.S. Open during the whole two weeks but was it really necessary to attempt to blur out all of the CBS references in the broadcast (graphics, coat patches, microphones, etc.)? That just seems over the top. Summerall, Trabert, Newcombe, et al were an essential part of how we watched tennis during that period, and certainly on Super Saturday. Let it go.
Thanks to the US Open for having the most amazing youtube channel for tennis. This has been fantastic. I only wish you could have included the retro commercial breaks. I'm really impressed with how fast and accurate they all were with those old rackets. I wish I could get an equipment list from this tournament to see what exactly they were using. Lendl's lobs were amazing.
sidebar, this is also the same lineup of players from wimbledon 1984 mens semi's and ladies final ..only difference is McEnroe d Cash and Connors d Lendl at Wimbledon semi's and Navratilova d Evert-Lloyd in the W finals
Disagree. All of the great ones nearly on the same day? McEnroe? Connors? Lendl? Then, Evert-Navratalova? This is the original and best "super Saturday". Stop.
The over privileged elitist attitude of Jimmy Connor's ordering the umpire to 'get rid of him now' speaking about a linesman, is incredible. I never respected his behaviour, though loved his tennis... But hey Connor's you're not the boss here ! lol
It was money and greed that brought super Saturday about in the first place - it was all about TV calling the shots. Super Saturday ended because the players absolutely hated it. The women's finalists didn't know what time their match would start and the second mens semi finalists could be playing into the early morning and then have to come out for the final the next day. It was a ridiculous joke in the tennis world that is gone now, thankfully.

More of these videos please
look how close the fans are on the court back in 1984. What great seats ...
Growing up I only got to see highlights of what they called "Super Saturday 1984". Thank You for posting this.

They missed a blur at 5:09:10! Somebody at the USTA must go!

@@donaldbraugh2314 Only in the beginning. It gets OK later on
@zenitrulit2 ty
I watched these matches when I was a kid. The best part about September on the weekend. Three great matches in one day
Watched Super Saturday live as a kid in Australia, best day of tennis ever.
Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Connors were the 2 of hardest working men in show business.
I WAS THERE!!!! IT WAS UNGODLY

Cool moment with Connors & his son
Great day - but i think Super Saturday 1995 was bigger. Graf Seles amazing final - surrounded by Agassi, Sampras, Becker & Courier.
both top class line-ups but in '84 every match went the distance

Yeah 1995 super Saturday was very close to 1984 super Saturday. The men's matches were better in 1984 but the women's finals were better in 1995.
If his shorts were not 2 sizes too small he would move better 😂
If they only had normal camera angles back then.. 🙈
1985 would have been equally great if Connors had injured his ankle
they stole two aces to PC in the fifth!
Bjorn is missing!

I remember going to the US open on Super Saturday, it was the best day of the tournament. It’s a shame that money and greed stopped this

Thought that was Lionel Richie without moustache against Martina!
