This is so true! I found a book in a slip cover at the thrift store last week. I don’t buy books normally but I opened it up. The book was signed and numbered 17 out of 200. It was also a first edition and in mint condition. It’s worth about $400 and I paid $1.59. I am going to pay more attention to the book section now. 😀
I watched this last night and went today to the thrift store down the street from my house and found 3 of these types of books, one was a FIRST EDITION! I am hooked! I am a bibliophile anyway but this cemented it. Thanks for sharing this information, as a new reseller it is invaluable!
I picked up two copies of a book at a dispersal sale thinking to keep the signed/numbered one for my own library and sell the unsigned one. Then, in the unsigned one, I found a letter from the author thanking the owner (who was a major book collector) for his assistance in writing the book and for providing some photos which were returned with a proof copy of the finished book - yes, the envelope with the photos was tucked in the back of the book! I now have two copies of the book in my library - a signed, numbered first edition and a proof copy (which was signed but in a different place to the numbered one) with the letter and photos. Signed one is worth $4-500 (on eBay). I have no idea what the other one would be worth (and you would probably have to sell it through a"real" rare book sale to get the correct price).
Another tip -- if the book is illustrated, do like Dom and include the name of the artist(s) in your description and (if possible) the subject line of your listing. Sometimes the artwork gives the book additional value.
I didn't catch the live, but watched later. I was screaming THE BOX! THE SLIP COVER! But of course to no avail. I spent most of my day literally trekking down to my shop and my mail box with packages in the snow with my hiking poles. They are calling for more tonight. I am so ready for summer
Hey Dom. I really appreciate your content. I learn a lot from you and Don. Slip cover books are definitely a good indicator. Not always great sales but they are a good indicator. Something that might be another good thing to talk about would be first edition vs first printing and how to identify each. (TBH old books without barcodes are the first ones I look for.)

I sell on eBay too, but I was willing to take a smaller cut on Amazon for a quicker turn-around & using FBA storage. I will NEVER pass a slip-cover again. Ever.

Hi Dominic! I usually snub books but no longer! I’m intrigued because I go to so many estate sales in big houses with libraries which feels overwhelming but now I have a target 🎯🥳🥳🥳
I guessed Slipcase, I bought nine slipcase books last Sunday at the 4th day of an estate sale. ( $1.00 each). Took pictures this afternoon and plan to list this week. Last year I sold 4 EC box sets with slipcases for serious money. I have some slip case's I've saved I might try listing them alone. Would love to talk to you sometime about having books grade, I owned a comic store in the 90's and have some inventory I just sat on.
I have so many of these slip covered books, mostly collections of books on individual artists, periods in history, and literature . I would never sell them they are some of my most valued treasures, but I’m so excited to look at them from a monetary standpoint after watching this video. Thanks so much.
