hey also.. you may not need a fuel pressure tester to see if it is working... first check all your fuses before doing anything. and then check to hear the relay switching on the fuel pump when you turn key to power.... (do this first) then you can just loosen the banjo nut just enough for fuel to come out and turn ignition, some more fuel should come out... if not, then check relay more thoroughly... if it is clicking on under passenger side dash inner part where it meets the door when closed... you may have to take out and take it apart to test it but you if relay good, then take driver side seat out to get to fuel pump to test to see if it is getting 12v. if no voltage... then something is shorted before pump... if you get voltage, then i'd recommend changing the pump... not difficult after getting seat off. make sure to test that you are getting a fuel coming out after installing new pump before putting seat together though -could also be something weird in there like a clog in line (in this case i would take filter completely off and use compressed nitrogen to try to blast it clear)... hopefully when you turn ignition the relay will prime by turning on pump for a second or 2. now, back to if you are not getting voltage at pump... then it can be frustrating... bad ground to thermostat, bad ground wire to relay, bad ecu... yeah no fun. so hopefully not that. i guess you could always just run a new 12v to pump with a manual switch, or relay so it turns on pump and then cuts off after 5 seconds whenever you turn power on to your car, or something... hopefully you don't have to do that.

Correct. It either works or throw it away and get another. Just like the rest of it. Fuses and the filter first.

my 01 auto idles fine and drives fine however going up hills it begins to slow down with my foot to the floor. I have lean codes in bank 1. replaced the fuel filter and the fluid came out black (not sedimentary atleast). after doing a fuel pressure test i sit at about 30psi at idle in park and around 40-45 while driving (foot on gas). Probably a bad question but would you read the pressure at idle or while driving? is it safe to assume my pump/sending unit is beginning to fail?
Edit: i have a code for an open circuit knock sensor (unsure if this is related)

Have you check fuel pressure? If so, Sometimes the throttle position sensor can cause weird issues like that
