Considering how lackluster some of the mini console releases have been, it's really refreshing to see one made with such attention to detail for fans. I love the different audio options in particular. Completely unnecessary step but they did it anyway. Thanks for reviewing this Adam!
Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 is the first home console I bought, since my childhood Sega Mega Drive 2. Hope SEGA makes a Saturn Mini and a Dreamcast Mini in the future too!
This is just proof as to how much better the current, modern gaming industry and landscape could be if Sega was still in hardware business today. These extra touches they've done to their second release mini was not necessary by any means, but they still did it anyway. Someone over at Sega cares and that's a helluva lot more than you can say about any of the big 3 corps today.
People may say Sega isn't as good as they used to be, but the level of care they put into this Genesis Mini 2 shows exactly why they're still loved. It's not a cash grab like what some of the bigger companies put out. I'm wanting to get one next month, hopefully the stock lasts. I think if they do a third iteration with 32X support they should model it after the Neptune. If they made the actual Genesis 3 any smaller it'd be a keychain.
With the way the gaming industry is nowadays, it is honestly quite refreshing to see SEGA going above and beyond to deliver to the fans the quality that we have known them for.
Brilliant video! If I hadn’t watched this, I probably wouldn’t have known it was exclusively sold by Amazon Japan… I just ordered it and can’t wait to get it! Thanks Adam!
I'm pretty sure the European Sonic CD is still 50 Hz, but the Mini also has the Japanese version available when you change the language settings, so if you want both the Japanese soundtrack and 60 Hz, you go for this version.

@@jasonarmstrong5750 That’s why I think Sega should start with a Master System Mini (with SG-1000, Sega Mark III, and Game Gear games on it) before making a Saturn Mini and Dreamcast Mini.
I bought mine for nostalgic reasons I grew up with the Sega Genesis model 2 I used to play it everyday and I also bought it because in a way I felt like I actually own a bunch of games legitimately like I own them like I bought a bunch of games but on a emulation station sadly but still I technically paid for them in a way even though I didn't buy them cartridgewise

I didn’t get the mini 2 as the price was a bit steep but if they ever do another batch I might pick it up. Still would prefer a power button and LED but that’s being a bit particular. Good to see the level of effort they put in matches the excellent first model too.

Like you I own the original MD Mini (And all 4 regional varients with the tower of power mini) I did the same with the Mini 2 (I own all 3 varients and the CD attachment...oh and the Cyber Stick) Love it. Love the effort Sega put in this device. It's not perfect but it's decent (The sound in Ristar I find is a bit off) but yes wonderful system.

This is very neat & I appreciate everything Sega did with it. Hopefully we can get a Saturn or DC Mini some day with the same care, effort & passion put into it like they did with this Genesis Mini 2
5:09 The Space Harrier II that is on the Genesis Mini 2 is not a bug fix release of the original Genesis version; it's a new version of the game with sprite scaling running on a hypothetical Sega Mark V, a Genesis that contains hardware scaling built into the VDP.
I bought one. I like it. Don't mind the different power button either. In Europe it is also Amazon exclusive, but did not ship directly from Amazon Japan. I had hoped it would have the Working Designs games here too though...

I still have the Genesis 2 box along with the system + sega CD I got as a kid. One of the very few original consoles from my childhood. It plays fantastic - been playing through Crusader of Centy and it's pretty good.
It would have been super cool to see a mini console that looks like a CDX since it includes genesis and CD games. I understand why they wouldn’t since plenty of people wouldn’t recognize it, but the serious Sega fans would love it. Also my first console was a CDX so admittedly I’m biased
I still have my Genesis 2 mini in the box. Maybe I’ll play it some time later, when I’m not busy. I recently won an auction for a TurboGrafx mini, but the price was well over retail. I feel bad about it, even though the starting bid was less than retail.
I imagine Sega still has no plan to return to the console market (though my hope for the contrary still burns strong to the point that if they did, I honestly believe I would go back to them solely), but if we look at it from a what if perspective, the mini consoles would be an amazing way to test the waters for that. Console-specific Sega, we miss and love you.
