Hi I'm a pastry chef, currently working in a small chocolate factory. From my understanding, it's actually how Callabeut processes the beans, as cocoa beans naturally have a redish/purplish hue to it. There is speculation from many chocolate experts I have spoken that it may be a bleaching process, hence the sour taste to it, like something that accidentally happened that would normally be considered bad to chocolate producers. This is just speculation as Callabeut has the exact process under lock and key.
I’m from Romania. Yeah, socata is a popular drink here in the summer. It’s basically fermented elder flowers, a bit of lemon and sugar. Idk what that soda tasted like but the natural one is really good
Seeing you talking to the camera while Mark is just stealthily drinking the entire can in the background is some quality comedy right there. I've also mixed apple juice and Coca-cola by mistake before and it works reasonably well, so I can see the Coca-cola apple variety being decent.
Your tree reminds me so much of the one I purchased from Nitori the year I spent the winter studying in Tokyo. Ten bucks for the tree which came complete with the lights & decorations. That little bit of charm along with the multiple strands of plug-in fairy lights I'd brought with me from Canada added cheer through the long and winter nights. Fake cracking fireplace footage via TH-cam on the laptop was also a splendid touch. That scoundrel Mark faked it through all the colas.
I like to stick to a let's say 90% vegan diet but without limiting myself if something comes along that I feel like I need to try, or a certain occasion or craving. So I really appreciate the feeling of usually not having dairy but deciding you have to try something. And also knowing the internet I'm kind of impressed you're willing to say that despite how some people tend to comment, haha.
You can see the gears turning in Mark's head when Sharla's asking if they should get the berry mint drink. All calculating the probability that it's gonna be an improvement on what she's got lined up for him, he's seen those other videos "yeah let's get it!!"
I'm so happy you're doing vlogmas this year, Sharla! It's the highlight of my December!😊 Those drinks looked really interesting, but I don't think I have ever heard of the cheese tea before.😝
There's a cheese tea place in my town in the US. I was super skeptical, but the workers suggested a hot earl grey cheese tea and it tasted weird at first, but I couldnt stop drinking it. Now I grab one every time I walk by. It has a thick, sweetened foam of cream cheese. Kind of like cheesecake. So good!
Ruby chocolate is an actual pink chocolate. Made from pink cocoa pods and with fruity aftertaste. More expensive than normal good quality chocolate. Try it, tastes great!!!
Sorry that you’re feeling sad Sharla! Maro knows how much you love him and wishes you were together again~ ❤️❤️ if love were enough you’d never have to be apart again ❤️
Wishing Maro the happiest birthday even though it's probably already over! That boy deserves all the love! ❤️ May he always be safe from the horror of the cheese tea!
As someone who is vegan and also doesn’t usually eat dairy, I actually really appreciate you admitting that you’ll “cheat” sometimes for certain situations. I feel like many of us do this, rarely. I wanna try amazake! I haven’t seen it, even in the Asian supermarkets here. Or maybe I’ve just always missed it somehow. The faces with all the drinks was hilarious 😂 I’m sorry you’re sad about Maro, but I’m glad you made a fun day out of it, regardless. :) Ps - I’ve been sitting on my couch just binge watching your Vlogmas videos. Lol
Hey Sharla! "Ruby Chocolate" is actually just chocolate made with not fully fermented cocoa beans, giving it the distinctive pink colour! Purdys sells ruby chocolates now, which is how I know lol
I'm sorry you couldn't spend this special day with Maro. I miss my family and cats so much during this time of the year. Me in Tokyo, they back in Hungary. So watching your videos do me a world of good every time. Thank you ever so much!!!^^ We also have something like socata in Hungary. It's called 'bodza szörp'. But it's not a soda, just a homemade drink. Usually, my granny makes it. The best drink ever for summer! And she makes lángos too, whenever I visit home. It always reminds me of you and your grandpa.^^
Watching older videos that were made before covid, of sharing drinks or food, kinda freaks me out but are nicely nostalgic at the same time. Your reactions are hilarious 😆
Thank you so much for doing Vlogmas! 💖 it makes me so happy to watch your videos, it feels like I’m there hanging out with you! Back in 2017 I took a school trip to Japan and have been missing it since the day I left, so thank you for bringing Japan to me with you’re amazing personality 😊
Yeah...Socata is very popular in Romania..it's basically like our traditional summer drink and it's made from the white flowers you saw on the can , and goes well with lemon...
I know how you feel being away from your beloved pet, I had to give away my dog to live in the apartment I currently live in and miss him deeply. I can still visit him but it’s been forever since I did cause I don’t want to be a bother to his new owners (a lovely elderly couple with another dog that’s the same breed as mine). I hope that you feel better, think positive! (I love watching the videos btw!)
I had to give up 2 cats and a dog because my apartment wanted a huge deposit for each one and we just didn’t have it. I tried everything I could think of, putting ads up and contacting countless rescues and specialty shelters and no one would take them. I had no choice but to take them to the only shelter in my area that had room. I cried so much my heart hurt. 😢 Sadly, a rescue contacted me about my dog the day after I had to give them up because our lease expired and she was already gone. I just really hope they all got adopted by loving families.
Don't mind the random comments on old videos but I just had to chime in: The Apple Coke was SO GOOD! I wish it was still around! I had it once in a while when we first got settled into Japan! The Strawberry Coke that came out later was just as good tho! Awesome vlogmas videos as always!!
I have a dream of spending christmas /new years in northern Japan so this vlogmas is making me so happy. I miss winter Christmas! (Currently based in Australia)
I can only trying to understand the position you're in with Maro. Our cat passed away 1y ago which was a big shock, but knowing he is alive but not with you and unclear where he finally will stay is very hard I imagine. Great to see you have some nice friends to cheer you up or feed them some interesting drinks. Wishing you all the best from Germany!
I’m headed back to Japan on the 27th (last time I went was a couple years ago). It’ll be my first time going in the winter! Super excited to see some snow :) I’m also excited to try some of these weird drinks if I can find them, haha. I just love conbini in Japan xD Always something I’m looking forward to. Enjoying your vlogs so far!
Please keep doing these, I love them! I can't wait to try all these, even the ones you say are gross! Just part of that awesome experience! Planning to move right outside Tokyo in 2022, if things go well here first.
Hi Sharla I will be trying the ruby choc mint drink when I get to Tokyo on 1st of January. Thanks for sharing with us. 🤗😍💖📸👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
yep Fanta Socata is popular in Romania. it's made from elderflowers. ferment the elder flowers in a lemon and sugar solution and boom! you now have Socata. obviously the natural DIY one is better than Fanta's
I just love when you do Vlogmas, you always have interesting content, I am currently addicted to a Strawberry Milk Tea, imported from Taiwan, it started out as a drink that I just enjoyed drinking to one that I get because I discovered it settles my stomach, which is helpful because I have to take Iron due to being acutely anemic, and the Iron causes me to become nauseated, which isn't good and somedays just the milk tea will settle my stomach other days are bad enough I have to take an antinausea med and also drink the milk tea. I got some black tea but discovered quickly its not as good as Assam Black Tea, which is what the Milk Tea I love is made from. I wish I could get some Assam Black tea. Love your videos! Merry Christmas, Love your Tree, its really pretty
A couple of intriguing flavours there (like apple Coke)... I think the "Ruby Choco Mint" is undutched chocolate found at KitKat Chocolatory or in REAL red velvet chocolate cake (plus mint)
That Fanta flavour is also popular in Serbia. The flower on the can is the flower of the Elder tree. In Balkan we make juice from that flowers, so it's a quite popular flavor. It is quite strong, in Serbia it was called "shockata" like it gives you a shock when you drink it ^. ^ Edit: yup, just watched that you figured it out that it was elder flower
Hi Sharla, actually eating pineapples with some salt is a pretty common thing here in Malaysia and parts of SEA. It's not only pineapples but we do it other sour type fruits as well.
Oh the peach almond milk tea sounds good! Hope you feel better soon Sharla ♥️ laughing is definitely the best medicine, and sometimes horrible drinks? Lol
I’m so happy you’re doing Vlogmas again i’m a pretty Recent discover of your channel and I watch some of your old blogmas videos and I hope to do it again
So happy that Sharla’s doing Vlogmas this year! The holidays can be a hard time but this had made me happy! I need my daily fill of Japan since I can’t be there! 🌸🌺
So Cheese bubble tea is slowly making its way into Australia. Its basically a foamy substance over your bubble tea. The cheese flavour is pretty light, so it almost tastes like nothing while having your tea. I think its mostly for looks. I would think the Family Mart version would be horrid, compared to the real stuff.
omg i saw that ruby choco mint the other day at lawson and was like wth could this possible taste like. i was not brave enough to try it hahaha but now i'll have to get it! yum!!
I work in a pastry shop so I know well Ruby chocolate. It's make it by a cocoa seed by Ivory coast and it's naturally pink. the flavor and taste is very delicate, a little bit fruity but mostly it's like a white choco less sweet :)
I'm quite new to your channel, so I'm watching vlogmas series for the first time and It's sooo good. I really get excited for every new vlog. You make really great videos 😊👍!
Ok so the salt on the pineapple is totally a thing 😊 I get this special Mexican spice called Tajin. It is a mix of salt, dried lime powder, and chili powder. It can be used on anything, but mainly fruit. I am not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but YOU MUST TRY IT!!! There is also this red sauce type stuff called Chamoy. It is a sour type of sauce made of pickled fruits and peppers. When you put Tajin and Chamoy on pineapples, they bring the sweetness of the fruit out so that it tastes even sweeter. Chamoy supposedly originated in Japan and was brought to Mexico!
Salt on oranges is also good! Don't know if they would work on satsuma, but onto cut oranges, the salt really enhances the sweet flavor, while at the same time giving the citric acid an almost spicy quality. Try shaking some up in a sandwich bag and see! So ironic that it's 大人の抹茶 when it's so sweet, the opposite of what 大人の味 usually implies.
Have you ever tried the peach coke? idk if it's a seasonal thing or not in Japan but I got it in my sakura themed Japan crate last year and it was really good! Which is saying something because I'm not really a soda person lol
I'm from Romania but we actually don't have that Fanta flavour here (we do have the natural Socata drink though) but I drank it from either Bulagaria or Greece I think, and I personally loved it lol. It's refreshing and really bold, just like the natural one.
The faces Sharla makes when she doesnt like something are fabulous
lol
Her reaction after trying the pure black ramen on Chris's Journey Across Japan was amazing
The way Mark was looking at the camera like, "Don't you guys say anything. You see nothing." I'm dead! 🤣
Ha! Agreed! Had me dying!
I'm so pleased you're doing vlogmas again this year Sharla! It must be a lot more work so thank you, it's appreciated! X
Ruby chocolate is actually a new variety of chocolate that comes from lighter cocoa beans!
usually the packaging of anything involving it is plastered in this ^
Hi I'm a pastry chef, currently working in a small chocolate factory.

Idk what that soda tasted like but the natural one is really good
The flavour itself was really nice, wish it wasn’t so strong o_o
a fellow romanian, hi! :)
Romanian here too!
It's nice to see other Romanian people here!
Hii! Or better said buna! 💕
Didn’t know there are so many of us here
Seeing you talking to the camera while Mark is just stealthily drinking the entire can in the background is some quality comedy right there.
Hearing that silent night intro and outro really brings me into the christmas mood. So relaxing
Please do more videos with Mark! You guys are so fun together! 😊
Is it weird I think it's so sweet that you guys don't mind drinking after eachother? That's how you know you're good friends!
I'm glad to see you had a good day despite not being able to be with Maro~ I'm enjoying vlogmas a lot! I love your christmas tree haha~
HE DIDNT ACTUALLY TASTE THE PEPSI! YOU CANT FOOL US!! 🤣

I’m Mexican, so we usually put salt, limon and Chile on our pineapple 😂❤️
Yess or with mango too with some chamoy 😍

I totally thought of like Tajín when he was doing that.
You can do it with melon too.
And chamoy hehe
Cheese milk tea from a milk tea shop is my favorite!!! The saltiness of cheese and the sweetness of milk tea blend well together.
You made me want to try some of those. Also, I'm totally digging Mark's hair. ❤

Fresh cheese tea is so good! If you mix it in it just adds a creamy sweetness. If you like bubble tea and cheesecake you'll like cheese tea.
