Awesome tour!! By the way I LOVE your classic hotel tours when you were with dieselducy back in 2011-2012 (and your current ones of course haha), your funny personality always makes me laugh when I watch them!!😂😂😂
These lower end chain motels are interesting, when you dissect where things came from. With the frequency that both IHG and Hilton change their linens and furniture packages, it isn’t uncommon to see pre-owned Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn furniture or bedding in these older motels. Some locations do a better job of updating and utilizing these hand-me-down items than others (for example, I’ve seen some Super 8, Days Inn, and Red Roof inn properties that had used furniture from higher end hotels, coupled with new paint, carpet, chairs and lamps.
Not bad at all for the price, at least the bed and bathroom are clean, which is important. I noticed landing lights in the parking lot, planes must fly right over your head here, haha. Lol, the Mitsubishi Mirage. I test drove the sedan (G4) version a couple of months ago. It's such a funny looking car but it's not actually that bad. Lots of room inside for adults and very smooth suspension, although cornering feels a little scary because it handles corners like a Greyhound bus. It just feels cheaply put together inside and the 3-cylinder requires a lot of patience and getting used to, but the fuel economy is phenomenal.
I'm right there with you on the Mirage. It has its issues, though there's rentals I like much less (the Nissan Sentra, Ford Focus, and (**pukes) Hyundai Accent are my bottom 3 that I absolutely dread).
***** I must say that the Nissan Sentra wasn't the worst rental car I have ever rented. The worst rental I have ever had was probably a Jeep Compass or the Hyundai Accent .
Disney Fan I rented a Sentra in San Francisco a few years ago. While driving around in the hills, I found that while the CVT transmission had a way of manually selecting lower gears, the gear ratio wasn't low enough to keep the speed down on the hills, requiring overuse of the brakes.
Bed bugs are always a concern of mine, I inspect the bed in every hotel room I stay in. I had someone travel with me years ago, my room was fine but his had bed bugs and he never knew about it until he woke up the next morning with bites all over him 😱 that gives me the heabie jeabies 😖
Disney Fan I have 68,500 miles on it and have spent zero on repairs for it. It gets great gas mileage. It is quite roomy for a tiny car. I just like its simplicity. It's been one of the best cars I've had. I've had nicer cars that were a headache to maintain. This one does exactly what I need and on the cheap.
It was reasonably comfortable for its class and the driving controls were nice, though the handling was hit-and-miss. And the power you get from that 3-cylender engine... haha. I had 18-wheelers tailgating me when I was trying to get up to highway speed :)
The Corolla/Camry and Chevy Malibu have been the best rentals I've received. Honorable mention to the VW Jetta and Kia Soul. At the bottom end - The Nissan Sentra, Ford Focus, and the absolute worst of them all - the Hyundai Accent. Ughhh...I could write a book about how much I hate that car.
There was an addition done to RIC in the late sixties so this hotel (and probably every other hotel around this) fits right in with that time period. Most likely at the time, most of these hotels were nice, but now... It is also worth noting that most of the crappier hotels and motels pay their housekeepers based on how many rooms they do and not hourly, so the housekeepers cut corners (the bed is a good example) so they can make up as many rooms as possible.
The lobby was huge and a bit spooky. You could tell there used to be more amenities and a full service restaurant, but most of it was just empty with the lights turned off.

Great video as always! I love the classic looking bathroom in this place as well.

Will Stonehocker the Accent is like the Excel all over again, without all the huge clouds of smoke and toxic fumes.
Looks like a decent place to stay for a night.
Not bad, I'd have no qualms about staying a night here

Have you ever opened a hotel microwave and found the turntable platter properly seated on the track?
Hey that microwave is cool how good does it work since it is older?
Turn the dial to the number then the bottom one turns it on
That motel and room is the same as in my nightmare where someone is trying to get in and chop me up.
The bed linen if recycled from Hampton Inn's cloud 9 bedding collection.
I know
I feel like I'm watching a suspense/thriller. I'm considering the ORF property, a great deal but a scary mystery. I hope the end is good.
The bed looks like a hampton bed great video how did you know that opened as a best western
They used Hampton Inn comforters and Holiday Inn pillow cases.
It was probably both at one time
Am I the only one who thinks curtains should be left open, that way guests can see in the room, you never know if someone is waiting for you in it.
That's a great idea. It might also make the room look brighter (hence nicer) to the guest, when they walk in. I think it's a win-win.
Early flight! Hope you got to bed early.
Very, VERY surprised about this room in this chain. Yes, there are some rough areas, but for the price you paid, I'd so stay here.
I was shocked. It was way nicer than the promotional photos on their website. www.redlion.com/sandston
Some of you calling this place a dump clearly don’t know what a dump really is......
Yeah... weekly rate hotels have bed bugs and other nasty stuff

What did you think of the Mirage as a rental car? I own a 2015 Mirage and love it.
Corolla is also $18k for a base model and over $20k well equipped. Mirage is much less of a price point so you're comparing apples to oranges.
blue06lt How do you love it? Haha

And that is a Holiday Inn Express (Firm) pillowcase.
Haha, oh boy. Recycled bedding. Nothing sketchy about that xD
