    I have a similar process
    1st Pass - Rough Pass chopping out sections that I don't want in the video
    2nd Pass - Go through and make finer edits so that the flow makes sense (this is also a good time to get rid of my excessive "Um's and Uh's)
    3rd Pass - This is where I'll do my Multi-Camera editing and switch from one view to the other.
    I also use two cameras - it really does make editing a lot easier when you can mask hard cuts by cycling cameras.

      Right? Those jump cuts can be really distracting when watching a video. I've gotten better at the old screen actor adage of knowing where your body is at any given time, so if I have to use the same angle on a cut, it's not so obvious.

    Excellent and simple way to explain things :)
    My motovlogs are freestyle and extemporaneous, so I have lots of useless footage to sift through unless I'm lucky. I'm still learning to be critical about trying to chop out the boring stuff to keep people watching as long as possible.
    I am trying to come at it on one hand as a detached audience member who has to figure out what the video is about, and on the other hand as a detached and critical editor who needs to keep the story moving and cohesive. One of these years, I'll get there. :)

      It's definitely a process and it really boils down to what you're vlogging for and who your audience is. There are a lot of us who just do it for fun, so this video may not have been as helpful for them, but for those who want to tighten up their videos, I hope it was helpful. Appreciate you watching and sharing! 🤓👍🏽

      Appreciate you watching anyway. Because I'm basically a novice editor, I don't know how much help I'd be. And I think I mentioned that because everyone's using a different program, it's difficult to do a catch all "How-to edit' video. Best of luck to you, and thanks again! ✌🏽

    Great tips. Thank you. I also try to hit the record button at the same time on two cameras, and sometimes it is lined up perfectly. That’s hard to do on those occasions where I have a third camera (360). I just ordered the new GoPro Remote. Hopefully that will be able to turn on all three at the same time.

      It's a huge win when your video just sync up all on their own! 🤞🏽 My Fusion always takes a moment longer to start recording than my Hero's do, so that's much harder to do.

    I saw one MotoVlogger turn his cameras on and then "CLAP" really loud. Now that would be his sync point of the two videos.

    Good video!! How does the syncing work if I wanted to edit with my iPhone? Any idea?

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a couple ways to do it that I know of. You can do it wirelessly, I believe, using the GoPro app. You can also buy a SD card to Lightning adapter, which will let you upload the videos directly to your phone.

    Thanks for this video. I’m still trying to work out the whole editing thing. I’ve got three cameras (helmet, handlebars, and tail) on my bike that I use, but whittling down the usable stuff has been my stumbling point. The first pass tip should help out a lot.
    Do you ever use the multicam feature in FCP?

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was a struggle for me, early on, trying to decide what to keep and what to cut. But, over time I got used to just letting it go. I haven't used the multi-cam feature for a long time. I got some feedback that said it was distracting, so I stopped. Appreciate you watching, and chiming in ✌🏽

      @@thatoneguymoto, I haven’t missed a video since I found your channel. 👍
      I think I’ve got a couple more riding days this year up in the PNW, and then I’m sitting down to work on a video I started. The multicam clip has taken care of the syncing for me on what I’ve started, which was a huge help.

    Hi there , am in the process of starting up my own motovlogging channel, so was pleased to find your channel with your tips,
    have a couple of questions for you, the backwards facing camera, which kind of camera do you use for that?
    What do you do, if you are out riding for a while, how do you turn the camera on and off? Because trying to find the button on the camera whilst riding is pretty difficult.

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My rear facing camera is a GoPro Hero 5 Black. I'm looking into swapping it for a Hero 9 Black, but will probably wait until the price comes down. The safest bet for you to turn off the camera is to pull over. I'm pretty good at turning both off with my left hand while riding. Took some practice, though. 🤓

    I am struggling with how long to make my cuts. Seems like 15 to 30 seconds on one shot before switching angles is watchable. Do you have a ratio on how long you show the road ahead then how long you keep the camera on yourself? People like movement and I think too long on one shot bores them.

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really don't but I think, when editing, it ends up being around the 15-30 second mark that I switch. I use my cuts to smooth out transitions where I'm taking a moment to collect my thoughts, or (like you mentioned) to keep things from getting stagnant. If I'm in a real scenic area, I definitely spend more time in the FPV (first person view), but when I'm addressing an audience, I'll spend more time in my rear-facing footage.

  • @MisplacedMotoVlogger

    Closing the visor has been the way I've been syncing audio. I've been making my initial cuts to both lines of video on the first run through, just to try and keep everything synced up. Then I come back and fine tune it. 👍

    • @thatoneguymoto
      @thatoneguymoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Syncing audio becomes something you've gotta be careful with once you detach it from the video. One fault snip can lead to a chain reaction down the line and by the end it's all muffed up! 😭😆
