This is an in-depth film of a voyage through the Arctic Ocean ice to the geographic North Pole on the nuclear powered icebreaker '50 Years of Victory'. Leaving the North Pole, we visited Franz Josef Land before sailing back to Murmansk. Along the way we saw polar bears, walruses, seals and birds.
'50 Years of Victory' (50 лет Победы / 50 Let Pobedy) is the largest and most powerful icebreaker in the world. She is an engineering marvel and is powered by 2 nuclear reactors that produce 75,000 horsepower giving her the ability to break through ice up to 2.8 meters thick or nearly 10 feet of ice.
The 50 Years of Victory has an endurance of 5 years before she needs refuelling with new uranium. The reactors eliminate greenhouse gas emissions that are characteristic of ships burning fossil fuels.

I like that somebody that has the wealth to be able to take a trip like this, makes the effort to share it with the rest of us who have no hope of ever doing such a trip. It's a good second best! This took a lot of time to put together with planning, editing, voice-over, background music and so on. Thank you sir for your generosity with your time, hope you enjoy many more exotic adventures.

Thank you for commenting. I hope that you do eventually get to travel to the places that interest you. In my case, it took a lifetime of work to be able to travel, however, COVID-19 has now taken that away.

You can go wherever you want in Russia. The border patrol would not stop you coming North. You can go up to the next one in Canada if you want. Do you? You won't need money there just your guts to preserve. The polar bears are still there and they are always hungry.

Excellent video, at 55 years old now this is exactly the sort of holiday I'd love to go on, I can imagine what my wife would say when I tell her, "hey darling I've booked us on a forty-day holiday in the high Arctic on a Russian ice-breaker".

@@njohnson6589 The nuclear-powered icebreaker Yamal does not belong to the navy. She is a civilian ship, a merchant ship. You didn't see a single naval officer on board Yamal in 1994

One of the most enjoyable documentaries ever I have seen. Thank you, Mother Russia for the opportunity that you created for us to view N Pole and her inhabitants from such a close range. Polar bears were exceptional.
Wish my parents were still alive to watch this fabulous video. We need to appreciate more what the other guy accomplishes . Competition is good but working for all mankind is rewarding in perpetuity. Great work .

Please check the current pricing with either Quark or Poseidon Expeditions - it's not cheap. Pricing is in $US so the decline of the $CDN does not help.
Amazing how the world is underappreciative of Russian Engineering. I mean they make some of the most industrial looking but very functional machines that get the job done no matter what.
I wish I had this kind of money someday to go to the North Pole someday. It's mesmerizing!

What an incredible trip. I didn't think it would be so interesting because of how bleak everything looks, but the ice flows and seeing them get split by the bow that easily impressed me.

Superb doco - far & away the best non-professional holiday film I've seen. You know just how much to say and film. Editing is first-class. The captions never intruded. Very well narrated and documented. I enjoyed watching the whole film. Very educational and informative. It`s only now I learned there is such a tour or trip in the north pole which I thought was only for explorers and scientist. The entire trip must be very expensive indeed. Great film. Thank you.

I kept being amazed by the obvious expenditure of energy used on this trip, and I wondered how much fuel they would use. At the end they told us: one kilogram or uranium (2.2 pounds). No pollution, no CO2, just clean, safe power.
