My friends and I came back to the game a couple of weeks ago after a multi-year break and primaries having infinite ammo was like a huge shock as a returning player. So many moments back in the day of having zero ammo across your whole loadout. It feels good to never have that problem again, but it made for some interesting times.
Everybody always says "No one remembers 2nd place" yet more people have talked about Datto getting 2nd place than the team that actually got 1st place.
I have to say, as good as The Menagerie was, it kinda ended up being a misstep moving forward. This activity set a standard so high basically every seasonal activity that came after like Vex Offensive or Sundial seemed underwhelming despite still being pretty fun to run : /
Vex Offensive was dope with all its weapons. My only complaint is that the Undying Mind wasn't as big as it was in D1 and was treated like a normal run.
Despite menagerie being broken & it was the first time we’ve seen the activity. Yeah it gets a lot of praise, but I loved the concept of the sundial & vex offensive. We all kind of over expected I guess.
My favorite memory of this raid race is this clip of datto yelling at sneaky for just dying and i have never been able to find it but i remember it being the greatest thing i’ve ever watched

Ironically, this was my first ever day one raid, it taught me the hype, fun, and genuine discovery of being able to learn new mechanics with the pros and who can come up victorious from not having a good team but to be creative and communication

And scourge now that was innovation, putting balls into places. Then garden, just wow garden was next level never seen before, tethering and gambit. Oh wait every raid in destiny 2 outaide of levi is like this. Its how raids work, teach you the mechanic and build on it

Having recently flawlessed this raid and gotten my Shadow title, I am sad to see it leaving. Other then the first encounter I really enjoy this raid a lot.
Not that Datto will not get a Worlds first, (though hes said hes not gonna be trying as hard now) but there is value in the fact that he is a staple in the community. Everyone knows him and what hes done for the community. In a way, its unique to very few people, because he has a value not just as a team member, but as an individual who's been devoted to this game.
I don’t blame him. His entire team got the exotic, they were told like everyone else only worlds first team would get the exotic for all members and imagine getting ur hopes up and super hype just to be told you were second place by mere seconds
Crown well always have a special place in my heart. As a introvert I have a very hard time trying to join LFG raid groups so me and my brother would practice the first two encounters till we could two-man them. It felt so cool to finally get some raid gear. And earlier this season I gathered up my courage and joined a group spamming for Tarrabah it was such a blast when one of our teammates dropped out and we decided to 5 man the Ghalran to the point when a sixth person did join us we had them sit out the fight as we 5-manned the encounter again.
This raid really feels like a "Raid Lair" to me even though it's not labelled as such. Nearly the same encounter structure as Spire of Stars, complete with the stacking of mechanics and time pressure in the final 2 encounters that sit in the same room!
eater, spire, scourge and crown all have quite a similar structure, a first encounter, a jumping puzzle/ transition encounter with a missable chest, then phase 1 and 2 in the same room, but crown has so much going on, and a difficulty for newcomers that i think it deserves its place as a raid
Eater, crown, spire, and scourge are all actually raid lairs and we’re supposed to be labeled as such, but bungie decided not to call scourge and crown lairs after the community built some stigma around the term because of its length. They follow the “opening encounter to teach mechanics, jumping puzzle, boss phase 1 and boss phase 2” formula. They’re definitely raid lairs.
I’m willing to bet it was intended to be, but after the negative stigma Eater of Worlds had and Spire being so difficult it isn’t fun, they decided not to name it as one to avoid people going into it with a negative idea (The same is also probably true for Scourge, and I’m willing to be bet this is part of the reason they got vaulted)
I did this raid on the very first day. Pounded through the first encounter. Got thru the jumping puzzle on the first try and then got stuck for 15 HOURS on the second encounter!!!! I haven’t stepped back in that raid since.
DESTINY 1 ORNAMENTS. They. Were. INSANELY BEAUTIFUL. That's something everyone will want to grind out, re-do raids for, etc. And the beauty??? It doesn't even require sunsetting. Beautiful video as always Evan, and great story. You did a ton of work here and I love this video as I do your others.

I am a player who left after Black Armory and just recently returned to this game (end of Season 13), so I sadly never got to fight this boss. But damn is his design cool, you putting Souls music like Gael's theme in fits like a glove. Awesome video, really informative and entertaining.

During the raid race I was with my clan and we managed to get to Deception phase and well....Not wanting to throw shade to former clan mates but overall team work and communication was low during that time. Where after after hours of trying to get through it the group got frustrated I tapped out and found myself in an LFG group with randoms who wanted to try it out with my checkpoint and in under an hour we beat it....We never beat the raid fully not getting the 24hr emblem but I managed to get closer to beating it with unknown random players than my clan who I knew pretty well at the time. Also BTW they never beat the deception after I left so I got closer to that emblem than my whole clan I really wish me and that LFG did we were on Xbox one and not PC and only a few of us had Mountain top I don’t think I did yet at that moment. Had a fun time with this raid later on and with that lfg group amazing group of guys hope to meet them again possibly.
Crown of sorrow is my favorite raid, sure the buff is repetetive, but it encourages teamwork and communication. Add the crystals in and its proper fun madness, especialy with the last 2 encounters. And a massive plus is the raid (warlock) armor is sick! Fav set by a longshot
The first time me and my friends tried Crown of Sorrow, it took us almost 8 hours to finish, and 5.5 hours in it are spend in the boss room, we even took turns having dinner break before going back at Gahlran. We didnt get Tarrabah at the end but it was one hell of a raid experience and strengthen our team's bond alot.

I remember this day because it was the most sweat I have put into destiny into preping for a raid that I didn't even enter I got out of school dashed home and just started doing shit talk to warner get the stuff for entering the menagerie Gambit Crucible Strikes in that order my dumbass forgot to finish breakneck and 21% before hand which was annoying then enter menagerie finish run go do flashpoint getting yelled at for not prepping anything and then just all of that noise. Sadly Tuesday school next day couldn't stay up to late and by the time I was done the last thing I did that night was enter the raid looked at both blessed knights and then falling asleep
Lol I just completed this for the first time yesterday, crystals and deceptions were hard for the 2 other teams and my team as well, finally got it after like 9 tries, 3 of us were new 3 didn’t have mics, but we did it in 2 hours and now I just need one more triumph for MMXX
This was the only raid I ever took place in a Week 1 race and that might be why I have such an attachment to it. Other than just loving the buddy system mechanic that the witches curse provides. Guess I'm alone in that I legit love that mechanic

You should make small short and sweet videos about the pinnacle weapons from each season and talk about how they either did or didnt effect the game. I think that would make a great series and it would be easy for you to make a 5-12 minute videos. I would find it interesting to hear about how cracked and broken the game became because of these weapons. This could also be an archive for all the top tier weapons that are going away. Kind of like cammycakes sunset but not forgotten video series but in your story telling format.
Tips for first encounter from someone who's done it 100+ times: - the first encounter goes significantly faster if you kill every enemy alive - crystals won't spawn in the same spot twice back to back so you can anticipate where they're going to be - each round of encounter 1 has a random rotation so again, you can predict that and speed it up - nighthawk with the solar mod which gives you more damage on the leviathan one shots the yellow ogres - nova bomb with a debuff will do the same - one/two punch will one shot the nights - xeno will two shot knights - mountaintop with major spec cause usually one shot them Second encounter: - can entirely be skipped by a dawnblade warlock with almost no problems whatsoever
I have extremely fond memories of this raid. It was where I met my clan, it’s final encounter was beaten by my favourite weapon; I beat it after finishing my exams and riding high off of having just gotten outbreak perfected
How did Eso deserve it more than Datto? Sure Eso's cool doing all these speedruns, but he can't even compare to Datto. Everyone knows Datto. Hell I never even heard of Eso in Destiny. It wasn't until D2 that some people started talking about him. Datto is the single most important content creator in Destiny history, and for multiple reasons.

My first WF race. We were in the first 500 Xbox clears. I was so proud of my team. People hate this raid, but I have too many fond memories of CoS.

Crown of sorrow is my favorite raid, sure the buff is repetetive, but it encourages teamwork and communication.
Add the crystals in and its proper fun madness, especialy with the last 2 encounters.
And a massive plus is the raid (warlock) armor is sick! Fav set by a longshot

The first time me and my friends tried Crown of Sorrow, it took us almost 8 hours to finish, and 5.5 hours in it are spend in the boss room, we even took turns having dinner break before going back at Gahlran. We didnt get Tarrabah at the end but it was one hell of a raid experience and strengthen our team's bond alot.

I remember this day because it was the most sweat I have put into destiny into preping for a raid that I didn't even enter
I got out of school dashed home and just started doing shit talk to warner get the stuff for entering the menagerie Gambit Crucible Strikes in that order my dumbass forgot to finish breakneck and 21% before hand which was annoying then enter menagerie finish run go do flashpoint getting yelled at for not prepping anything and then just all of that noise. Sadly Tuesday school next day couldn't stay up to late and by the time I was done the last thing I did that night was enter the raid looked at both blessed knights and then falling asleep

Lol I just completed this for the first time yesterday, crystals and deceptions were hard for the 2 other teams and my team as well, finally got it after like 9 tries, 3 of us were new 3 didn’t have mics, but we did it in 2 hours and now I just need one more triumph for MMXX
This was the only raid I ever took place in a Week 1 race and that might be why I have such an attachment to it.
Other than just loving the buddy system mechanic that the witches curse provides.

I have completed every raid in d2 with my clan and this is by far the biggest headache we’ve ever had. We rarely struggle but this raid really tested us. o7 crown of sorrow, you challenged me like no other raid

You should make small short and sweet videos about the pinnacle weapons from each season and talk about how they either did or didnt effect the game.
I think that would make a great series and it would be easy for you to make a 5-12 minute videos. I would find it interesting to hear about how cracked and broken the game became because of these weapons. This could also be an archive for all the top tier weapons that are going away. Kind of like cammycakes sunset but not forgotten video series but in your story telling format.
With me being a common raider, I honestly do love this raid, but the first encounter just kills me
Tips for first encounter from someone who's done it 100+ times:
- the first encounter goes significantly faster if you kill every enemy alive
- crystals won't spawn in the same spot twice back to back so you can anticipate where they're going to be
- each round of encounter 1 has a random rotation so again, you can predict that and speed it up
- nighthawk with the solar mod which gives you more damage on the leviathan one shots the yellow ogres
- nova bomb with a debuff will do the same
- one/two punch will one shot the nights
- xeno will two shot knights
- mountaintop with major spec cause usually one shot them
Second encounter:
- can entirely be skipped by a dawnblade warlock with almost no problems whatsoever

I have extremely fond memories of this raid. It was where I met my clan, it’s final encounter was beaten by my favourite weapon; I beat it after finishing my exams and riding high off of having just gotten outbreak perfected

How did Eso deserve it more than Datto? Sure Eso's cool doing all these speedruns, but he can't even compare to Datto. Everyone knows Datto. Hell I never even heard of Eso in Destiny. It wasn't until D2 that some people started talking about him.
Datto is the single most important content creator in Destiny history, and for multiple reasons.

I was at boss on the first day. We were there so long I started to fall a sleep and gave up. There was 2 people on my team that just couldn’t stay alive. The fire team leader wouldn’t replace them.
