James, I followed your lead and trusted the recommendations, and it had me clubbing up more than I would have otherwise...and it was on so long as I made a decent swing. The only additional adjustment I had to factor in was taking more club as fatigue starts to settle in the last 4-5 holes, so if it recommended 8i, I’d hit 7 and get good results versus coming up short. I walked 18 so fatigued was a factor, and the wind was 10-15 mph, so this app was extremely helpful. Thanks so much for your review. Oh yeah...this helped me shoot my first sub 80 round since before the lockdowns started...6 over 77. Been shooting inconsistent low 80’s to as high as low 90’s for a couple of rounds.

Been using Swing U (formerly Swing by Swing) for about 5 years now, fantastic GPS app, factors in slope & wind to give a "plays like" yardage, you can measure shots & keep them (paid version) which then gives you the club advice, and their support is fantastic, I've emailed them about a few things & they come back within 24 hours. Tried a few others, including 18 birdies, but always come back to Swing U. Keep up the great work. Cheers from Oz.

Solid video mate! I started using GolfLogix this year for recording stats and rounds. I def find using an app like that or 18Birdies is very helpful for obviously distance, but also keeping track of scores, handicap and specific stats. I’m telling friends to start using one as well. Also, Iike you said, since many courses aren’t handing out scorecards, having an app helps tremendously. Only downside I’ve noticed, some courses I’ve been to aren’t yet on the app I use. So, it’s a give and take

I have been using Garmin watch for GPS and score keeping. I also use the Garmin apps which does keep some stats. I love how the Garmin watch and apps shows you where you hit and what the distance are after the round.

I’ve been using Golf Shot Pro for a long time now and I found it helped me understand the weaknesses in my game.
Recently, I switched to ARCCOS which in many ways is similar to 18 Birdies. I can already tell ARCCOS is going to transform my game. 2 rounds in I’ve already learned a lot. As soon as I unlock all its features (after 5 rounds) I’m going to begin making some much needed adjustments to my game.
I few trends have already shown up....
Currently off 3.9. Looking to get down to the 2s this year.

I stuck around to the end nice work. Been using Golfshot for 7 years. Very similar. I’m wondering how 18 Birdies track shots? Do you have to tell it when you want to track or does it “know”? I have to hit track buttons on Golfshot to track and can be cumbersome at times. Like the chips stat, don’t have that in Golfshot.

Hey there James! I use a Garmin S20 watch paired with the CT10 club sensors, tracks everything and automatically updates my stats when I plug it into my PC to charge the battery. Not a bad setup, and about $600 US for the combo. I really like this idea, I have been using Golf Live with the club tags for the last 6ish months. Its great bar the tagging is slightly frustrating at times. It has really helped with understanding my game more, I have improved my handicap by 2 shots just by knowing the key areas to work on. And it has also allowed my to push my ego to one side as at one point I was coming up 42% short on approaches.

I used 18 birdie's for using it as a swing coach and it helps you with any issues you have mine was I was hunched over too much over the ball now after using it for a week or so and standing up a little more up right my posture and swing is 8/10 so I'm happy as Larry ! Just need to use the app on the course now

Well we're using Golf Gamebook to keep our scores here in Finland (or ebirdie, but I prefer Gamebook as it has that GPS measuring in it). I do put my fairway hits and putts there, but if I bought the "Gold" version there would also be those bunker shots etc. available. I don't play much (10 rounds at this point I think, with a couple of 9 holes in it) so I can quite easily remember what happened on each round just by looking at the scorecard.

Been using 18 Birdies for about a year now and love it. It’s great to see how even rounds with a similar score have vastly different stats. It would be good if there was a way to define fairways hit rather than just miss left/right. If you could say straight/ draw /hook left you could tell if your aim was off, or you hit a poor shot when you’re looking back at the stats.

I have been using the free version of the App since June 2017 and I have to say that it really helps you out, even more so if playing at a course that you have never played before. The GPS mapping has been pretty much bang on for all courses that I have used it at. The Premium version is really good too but I just don't play enough golf to warrant purchasing it at the moment. I would say it is one of the best Apps out there though at this moment in time.

I have used the free version of VPAR for 3 years or so and keep score every round.
Initially it was very good and the VPAR handicap and my official one were pretty close (VPAR also included bounce games). More recently, however, there has been a huge departure and I not been able to work out why.
This app does have stats options which I have never really bothered with. Your video has “inspired” me to do so and maybe start afresh with a new app!!

I use the Taylormade MyRoundPro app to record my rounds and review my stats. Now that I have a significant log of rounds I can look back round over round or look at my performance at different clubs I play, it’s interesting that at some clubs I hit 80% of fairways and there’s one club that I struggle to hit 50% of fairways. It uses strokes gained against various handicaps and you can see what you need to work on. I really like it

I used to keep my stats. I wrote a piece of software a few years back that would not only record the stats but then also compare them to USA Tour stats - Best, 30th and worst on tour in each stat. I was keeping Fairways Hit, GIR's, Total Putts, Putts per GIR, Sand Saves, Up & Down. I also kept the stats for a couple of touring pro's playing on the South African Winter Tour series.
I stopped keeping the stats after a while because I felt that I was becoming more obsessed with the actual recording of stats than I was with just playing golf. Every once in a while, I will pull the software out and input the stats from a round. This was all done way before the availability of apps and GPS's on mobile phones so it required me to track it manually on my scorecard and then capture the details into my software. It was useful in identifying areas of weakness in my game.

Haha nice. I started using the tp5x after I saw you using it. Fantastic ball. But firm but looks cool

Good video again James looks like a good app the only snag is I don't think you would be able to use it in a medal because of the weather and wind feature on it

Does the app severely drain battery life? I’ve used a similar app and it just chewed through battery.

Keep it up james! You and a few other TH-cam channels are what keep me going through my shitty life, thank you so much!!

Seems a bit of a faff compared to using ShotScope. Despite never wearing a watch anywhere but on the course, I choose a watch as I don't want to use my phone whilst playing or have to remember entering stuff as I go. Would be good to see a few 18 hole course blogs (maybe split into 2 or 3 videos) now and again on the channel and see you plot your way around a course.

My girlfriend played today in a tournament at Vistabella Golf in Spain and everything was on her phone. Registration, paying, scorecard and prizes. Way Forward?

Tried 18 birdies, an ok app but it absolutely gobbles up battery power.! Plus, in bright sunshine, very difficult to see the content. Sticking to my GPS watch. I do annotate GIR, putts etc, unfortunately I have a bag full of scorecards I never look at again.

I use the Garmin S62 paired with the Garmin CT10 sensors, expensive but they give great data/stats

I’ve been using it for a few years, 333 rounds with stats. I set targets before I play like 1 birdie, 11 fairways, pars, and GIR. Great app to use.

I love the 18 birdies app been using it a while but just got a cheap arccos and loving having all my distances. Keeping track of putting and driver stats
