Said this on the other video on this truck - I ordered a truck this past summer, relatively loaded Lariat. Not happy they took so many steps back, especially without warning. Over 70K MSRP and I have to look to the aftermarket for the basic lighting my 2001 Pontiac has. Unbelievable, Ford. This F-150 may be my first and last order ever. Not because these changes are that big of a deal, but because of the way it was handled.
Finally someone who turns on the turn signals when showing the exterior lights. Irks me when people review vehicles, show off all the glorious LED lights but neglects to turn the turn signals on.
I’m glad I went with a late build 21 f150 lariat. I’d miss those cupholder lights and numbers on the dials. My early build 22 Powerstroke lariat has the numbers in the dials...they must really be cutting cost because of the massive inflation right now
As far as the ambient lighting I'm still steamed over Ford removing the RGB feature for ambient colors from the F150 years ago. Gave it exclusively to the Navigator.
The fusion had it too and I remember at the time i so badly wanted a fusion almost just for that lol. I LOVE color changing interior lights. Luxury brands do it extremely well. Wish ford would add that back, and steal the “ambient noises” that genesis does.
I, too, hate the removal of the ambient lighting inside… BUT, the 2022 502a does get front parking sensors whereas the 2021 did not. One might argue that those are more valuable / important than cup holder interior lighting.
I have a 2022 Platinum on order. this is the first I knew they did away with the interior couple of lights and glove box lights and it literally can be a dealbreaker for me. i live the interior lighting of the 2021

What about the tail lights. With lights on, lights lit small strip top and bottom. Previous set up. Hard to see at night. Owner complaint’s, then switched to top middle and bottom illumination now back to two strips
Just a thought about the rear license plate halogen vs led bulbs. My 22 lariat has the halogen and I switched out to led. I have since gone back to the halogen bulbs. For my eyes, I found the rear camera was causing glare with the led when backing at night. The rear camera seems to be better now. Edit: I added a small button usb light to front storage where charging pad is. That mini light has many different colors and brightness level. Also added one to the back seat area usb as well. I think both were about $10.
I was off and running to the dealership to order a 2022 Powerboost until I read this info. I know the lighting is a small change, but appearance means everything to me. I’ll hold off and reappraise my first truck buy… it just might be the EV.
I have a 2021 Limited. I removed the housings when I was replacing my bumper pad. I opened up the housing by twisting the connector in the back and all it was is an LED bulb that you could buy from anywhere.
@@JVette01 You would have to replace parts and I’m sure that’s a costly endeavor. Perhaps the glovebox light might be easier. I’m sure the harness that feeds power is probably missing.

Was hoping they'd offer the Powerboost for the '22 model year for the supercabs. For '21 they were only available with the supercrew. For some reason Ford has yet to put the '22 build and price on their site. Not sure what the holdup is there.
Is there still a socket for the light bulb in the glovebox? Do you know if the sport appearance package is still black? That's what I ordered based on what it looked like on the 2021.
@@austinhodder7355 when I ordered my '22 the sport appearance and black appearance were 2 different options. I got a 6.5' bed so black appearance was not available. I'll just have to black out what I can on my own. As long as the bumpers and grill aren't chrome I'm good.
Does the dual climate temp setting bar always show on the top of the 12" screen and take up that space now? Or is it only when you make the temp change? This would be a silly GUI change IMO.

I have a 2022 lariat 501a without the fancy work surface tailgate and I don’t have the box lighting. Kinda annoyed since my 18 xlt had it, but I didn’t use it THAT much.

I’m sad they took away those lights but since the 22 lariats have wireless charging standard on 502a and optional on the other packages I’d say that’s a fair trade.

Taking out the temperature screens and putting it on the synch screen really bothers me . I ordered my f150 new in august and it was supposed to be a 2021. A month or two ago (November ) I got a call asking if it would be Ok that it got pushed back into being one of the first ‘22 models made and I agreed . I didnt even think they would or could consider making any major changes but here we are . I REALLY like the ambient cup holder lighting too so they took out two very luxurious band desirable features and it drives me nuts when I get my truck it won’t be exactly what I wanted
I really wish I would’ve known they were coming out with a black appearance package. I have a 2022 Lariat 501a ordered with the sport appearance package. REALLY wanted the slate interior, but apparently you can’t order that with the sport package. Build scheduled for the week of February 21st, and the dealer said I can’t make changes to my order :(

These tail lights have very little visible red light when viewed directly from behind. Kind of a big deal especially in reduced visibility conditions like in a rain.
Still nothing that's a huge deal breaker for me. Can probably buy those for a few bucks if you want to. F150 LEDs has a ambient lighting kit I can get for my 302a, and those license plate ones are an easy cheap fix too. Great video as always.
Great video! It's definitely disappointing that Ford removed the ambient lighting in the cup holders. Otherwise, I am really impressed with the lighting in the vehicle. Its probably just the camera, but the Ice blue lights seem to be much brighter in person.

Odd weird question, are you overly than usual tall? It seems like every newer f150 video I watch of yours, you're pretty much the same height as the truck. I'm 6'3 and I'm a good 4 or 5 inches shorter than my 2022 f150 lariat. Do these have like absolutely zero lift or are you like 6'8 or something lol
Getting rid of the interior lighting is embarrassing. Saving, what, 10 cents a truck? My 2015 has those lights and they change color. Such a fun feature.

Perhaps. However, it’s a trend with Fords. For example, 2020 Explorers had a light in the glovebox and console and 2021s do not. They tend to downgrade them after the first model year of a next generation.

I was kicked from my 21 order to 22. I wasn’t too thrilled about it since my color was leadfoot, but atleast I could get the BLack Appearance Package.... Atleast that’s what I thought until I found out it was going to delay getting my truck another 6+ months. Took it off and went back to sport. So for 22 they just downgraded and raised the price 2x ....
No glovebox light is totally unacceptable, my 2002 Honda has it.... not happy I will have to go aftermarket for what should be a standard feature. The cupholder lights also make it feel much more luxurious, again will have to go aftermarket, wish they at least gave it as an option! Ford probably saves 15 bucks per truck to leave out all of that lighting.
The prices and interest rates have gone up drastically now unfortunately. In my opinion the 502A package for an additional 5k is not necessary. The regular LED headlights you get on the 501A are good enough. Do people really need headlights that turn 🤔. Do you need navigation now that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are better than ever. 🤔 waste of money really.
Dumb move by Ford. Charging more for these trucks but taking away features. I was thinking about ordering a ‘22 but going to pass for now until Covid supply chain issues are resolved. I really liked the ‘21 version ambient lighting in the cup holders.
Very disappointing. They are saving $10. Both gloveboxes should have a light in them. I would rather give up on the vanity lights. I never use those. The climate control temp should only show when you change it. Now we have to give up 10% of the screen to see something that never changes unless you adjust it. A light by the wireless charger is a safety feature. Now it will be way more distracting to find your phone in the dark. I wish they would read these feedbacks.
Welcome to supply constraints, INFLATION and production constraints. This move will do a few things. 1.) Help Ford produce more F-150's due to chip shortage. 2.) Help them keep profits up by removing some of these. As a consumer it's a catch 22. With more features and less inventory, we get gouged by the dealers. With more trucks/more inventory, we get gouged by the manufacturers. Sucks either way.....smh
Looks like I will NOT be buying a 22 and newer f150 until Ford quits being cheap and ripping people off. I would not be surprised if this will be the first year Ford got bumped out of first place in sales by RAM or the GM twins

Moving the temp readout makes sense. You can't see the temp if your hand is in the way while turning the knob.

How do I turn off the upper LED lights on either side of the third brake light? I turned them on and cannot figure out what I did.
It is by your light switch. You should see a button with a picture of your truck and a light above the bed

I did this on my 2015 and it's super easy. I got them on carid if I remember correctly, but it's literally as simple as changing the bulbs.

My 21 limited has a turning light that's activated when you turn the steering wheel left or right.
That is the fog light acting as a turning light.

We don’t have any Mach e’s right now, but usually when we do, there’s a markup on it. Especially a GT performance edition.

You must have a powerboost. All the normal (non-electrified) ones have a manual fuel door.

I think the space is always reserved, but the temp only shows when there's an adjustment. Seems like such a bush league change.

You can, but you just move the air vent over to the side instead of using the wheel to do it.

I completely understand. Unfortunately Ford makes tiny changes each model year and sometimes they’re not improvements.

Odd weird question, are you overly than usual tall? It seems like every newer f150 video I watch of yours, you're pretty much the same height as the truck. I'm 6'3 and I'm a good 4 or 5 inches shorter than my 2022 f150 lariat. Do these have like absolutely zero lift or are you like 6'8 or something lol

Getting rid of the interior lighting is embarrassing. Saving, what, 10 cents a truck? My 2015 has those lights and they change color. Such a fun feature.

That’s a piss off im paying the same price as a 2021 with all the lighting which is useful on road trips at night and it not included on my 22 I might cancel my order if not compensated. I’m not paying full price for stuff I don’t get

Perhaps. However, it’s a trend with Fords. For example, 2020 Explorers had a light in the glovebox and console and 2021s do not. They tend to downgrade them after the first model year of a next generation.
@@JVette01 yes, you right. I leased a 2019 F-150 and they made you pay for the remote start. It was like $150. The 2018 model had it standard with 302 package.

I was kicked from my 21 order to 22. I wasn’t too thrilled about it since my color was leadfoot, but atleast I could get the BLack Appearance Package.... Atleast that’s what I thought until I found out it was going to delay getting my truck another 6+ months. Took it off and went back to sport.
So for 22 they just downgraded and raised the price 2x ....
The good news is that it’s still a great truck even if it has a few less LED’s
No glovebox light is totally unacceptable, my 2002 Honda has it.... not happy I will have to go aftermarket for what should be a standard feature. The cupholder lights also make it feel much more luxurious, again will have to go aftermarket, wish they at least gave it as an option!
Ford probably saves 15 bucks per truck to leave out all of that lighting.

They all cut something out 2021 ram rebel has led reverse light but regular bulb for cargo light.
I think in rams case it has to do with trim. Not necessarily something they took out for the model year.
The prices and interest rates have gone up drastically now unfortunately.
In my opinion the 502A package for an additional 5k is not necessary. The regular LED headlights you get on the 501A are good enough.

Dumb move by Ford. Charging more for these trucks but taking away features. I was thinking about ordering a ‘22 but going to pass for now until Covid supply chain issues are resolved. I really liked the ‘21 version ambient lighting in the cup holders.
It might be able to be added later. I’m not sure. The truck is still awesome.
Very disappointing. They are saving $10. Both gloveboxes should have a light in them. I would rather give up on the vanity lights. I never use those.
The climate control temp should only show when you change it. Now we have to give up 10% of the screen to see something that never changes unless you adjust it. A light by the wireless charger is a safety feature. Now it will be way more distracting to find your phone in the dark. I wish they would read these feedbacks.

It doesn’t seem like it. There are some new packages like the Black Appearance package that I’m interested in checking out.
Is the bed lighting standard on the lariat as it used to be on the 21s? Someone got a 22 Lariat and said he didn’t.
It might be included in a bed utility package now. I’ll be able to double check when the build and price go live

Welcome to supply constraints, INFLATION and production constraints. This move will do a few things. 1.) Help Ford produce more F-150's due to chip shortage. 2.) Help them keep profits up by removing some of these.
As a consumer it's a catch 22. With more features and less inventory, we get gouged by the dealers. With more trucks/more inventory, we get gouged by the manufacturers. Sucks either way.....smh

Looks like I will NOT be buying a 22 and newer f150 until Ford quits being cheap and ripping people off. I would not be surprised if this will be the first year Ford got bumped out of first place in sales by RAM or the GM twins
