I think it's more like a 100 point scale when factoring in the decimal and scoring say 80/100 or 70/100 etc, it just simplifies it into a 10 point scale where there's less distinction (8/10 or 7/10 respectively). So it's not so much that there can't be round numbers its more so that it "feels" rounded up or rounded down and less "accurate"

100% correct. Manipulating a score simply to avoid a round number is way more rookie than giving a 9.0. Dave even admits in this video that the last place he gave a 9.1 purely because he didn't want to give it a 9.0, which to me ruins the credibility of his scoring system.
Yeah it seemed like Dave kind of thought he did a 9.0 the way Bill Hader did an 8 where he wasn't aware that you are supposed to add the tenth - Bobby knew there was a tenth but still carefully chose a 9.0

I would argue avoiding any round number IE 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 simply because you dont like round numbers is "rookie" scoring. It takes credibility away because you are now going to be manipulating scores simply to avoid round numbers. He even admits in this video that the last place he gave a 9.1 because he didn't want to give it a 9.0. If a pizza is better than an 8.9, but not as good as a 9.1 then you HAVE TO give it a 9.0.

I went to the Sauce slice shop based on the review. Best pizza I’ve ever had. Hands down. They don’t make pizza like that in the Southeast. Really unfortunate.

But to be fair his score system is kind of weird. Most times you hear something is an 8.3/10 you think it’s good, even very good, but not excellent and remarkable like 8.3 actually means in Dave’s system
That pizza looked really good. I think Dave went a little low. He was too focused on comparing the pizza to the slice pizza from the same owner. Just judge the pizza on its own. It looked more like a 8.6-8.8 range.

As I age and watch review videos and opinions, I quickly realize that reviews should only be done in categories. It's like having a seasoned beer drinker rate a light domestic beer, of course they will probably criticize it but at the end of the day, it's out of their category to rate because they don't like the style which then leads typically in a lower score.

I can tell just by watching the slice when Flay bites it and pulls away that this pizza is outstanding. The dough texture can't hide in a video. And this texture and thickness is perfect.

Visited this place last week. The crust was outstanding, which automatically gives it a high rating. However, the cheese and tomato sauce on the Margherita was completely flavorless. Can't go higher than an 8.0.
