I didn't read through all the comments, but mini truck customizing was really taking off in the late '70's and mid 1980's. They were sufer/skater mobiles getting guys to the beaches and skate parks. I was a part of that scene. Mazda/Ford Courier, Isuzu/Chevy Luv and of course, Datsun and Toyo's were the chosen. Rangers and S10's were too new for most kids to afford then. I had a 1980 Ford Courier with a 10B rotary. Tons of guys "bed danced" their beds with speakers built in. Good times!
Missed a few things, clear corner lights, clear tails, street scene sport mirrors, color matched handles, and where is all the billet interior pieces and the tow ball to throw sparks
I have been watching "how-to" shows like this for 40 years. They are so much more enjoyable than drama reality based shows. I am being goofy here, but it sure is nice to have a $5 million shop that is heated and cooled, free sponsored parts, know someone that just happens to have NOS parts. All to build a $100000 truck. Seriously though, great job.
I had a 95 s10 with the same wheels I bagged in high school. Painted it pastel blue and drove it to over 300k miles. Eventually I upgraded to some 20s, was a great truck.

1984 GMC S-15 4X4 GYPSY PACKAGE INTERIOR. I ordered and got it in Nov. 1983. Over 500,000.00 miles on it. Same 5 speed tranny. Replaced engine in 1992. Racing blew up original 2.8L. Limited slip rear end. Still very strong and doesn't smoke. Oil changes regularly make the difference. I'm the original owner.
The way he pulled the front spring out! Wow! I'm tackling a stuck spring now where the control arm is fully extended and the inside compressor is tapped out. Wow! Thanks for showing me where to place the pry bar.
I like mini trucks, but not that style. Those look way too ghetto. I have a 1993 Chevy S-10, 2 door, 2 wheel drive, short bed, that originally came with a 2.8L EFI V6/5 speed. The first thing I did was trash the entire powertrain, built a bored and stroked 383ci carbureted small block for it, had a Muncie M21 4 speed built for it with new everything, and had a Ford 8.8" limited slip rear axle rebuilt and modified for it. I rebuilt the steering/suspension/brakes, using a lot of aftermarket parts. But I did not lower it. I kept the stock ride height. I used 275/60-15 tires on the rear, on 15x8 wheels, and 225/70-14 tires on the front, on 14x6 wheels. So the rear does sit a bit higher now, because of those huge rear tires. I built a true dual exhaust for it, with no cat cons and no mufflers. I used the stock cast exhaust manifolds, putting headers on a V8 in an S-10 is not easy, and the slight power gain was just not worth it to me. I did install resonators near the back, the exhaust exits under the rear bumper (yes it has a rear bumper, but I swapped the stock modern looking one for a chrome '70s style diamond plate one) I also replaced the stock front bumper with an aftermarket solid chrome one with no rub strip. I replaced the chrome front grille with an oem GM gloss black grille. 2 1/2" cowl hood with hood pins and cowl induction emblems. I installed a sliding rear window so I could hear beautiful sounding exhaust. It has no stereo, it has an oem GM radio delete plate. The exhaust is my stereo. I installed an Xtang black vinyl tonneau cover on it, and relocated the spare tire (yes it has a spare tire) to the bed because it would no longer fit under the bed with the custom exhaust. I was going after a '70s hot rod muscle car look, and I think I pretty much nailed it. I think first generation S-10s look way better than the second generation ones. They have that square body look that started in the '70s. First year of the S-10 was 1982, back when they were still making the full sized square body trucks, which they continued to make all the way through 1987. The '82-'93 S-10s all look the same except the grilles and dash. A '93 looks just like an '82. The second generation S-10 just has a rounded, modern, Japanese style look that I never cared for.
The thing about after building a Minitruck are the of offers from guys that to use to have a minitruck back in their day, like with my 3" dropped 2001 Sonoma SLS that I bought stock in 2001, I've had a dozen offers to buy mine.
I have an 86 s10. It came as a 4cyl 5 speed, but I swapped in a built 2.8L from my 83 gmc s15. Ported big-valve heads. Edelbrock intake. 390cfm 4bbl carb. Hedman headers. Edelbrock cam. Roller rockers. 4.10 gears with a lunchbox locker and 38.5x14.50R15 tires out back. 2.5" body lift. 3" lift spindles up front with 31x10.50R15s up front. Edelbrock shocks from like 20 years ago at all 4 corners. She's a fun little truck. It's only 2wd but the bedsides sit as high as my k2500 pickup on 33s. I'm not a big fan of lowering trucks but I get it. The s10 platform is a lot of fun.
I don’t think you should ever put rtv on a bolt that doesn’t pass through. Rtv is not compressible and can blow a hole in the engine wall with less than spec torque.
My Ranger wouldn't be the best starting point . Because even though it's a 2 wheel drive , it's a Edge model . And they are the same height as the 4 wheel drive , with the same torsion bar suspension . If I had a regular one it would be way easier to lower it .
So go to a pick-a-part and pull the i-beams and steering knuckles out of a base model. You can't be more than $200 in parts to swap it. Rear drop is just a simple axle flip to lower it at least 4"
It rides better when it’s aired out more. You will find a sweet spot where you can drive it slammed in the rear and enough air up front to drive it and ride nice.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I’m not a fan of mini trucks either, but the nice thing about the hobby is that there are so many different ways to take a build. Not everyone is going to love it, as long as you are happy with your project, nobody else matters.
@@eugenewilliampruski3755 I've seen tasteful mini truck builds. The S10 is a dime a dozen. They spent probably 50k on that truck. I've seen much better than purple rain barely being 15k. It's a lost investment that they probably didn't pay for anyway. In the end. It's just another slammed s10. There are over 100,000 in one S10 group alone with one done like and often better then this one and can still be used as daily truck..
@@earlymorninglizard7061 S10's have never had a real value. They never will have one. I own 7 S10's and a syclone with 12 original miles. That one which is a GMC, I've turned down $75000 for.

All I was saying is that everyone has different tastes, you may not like what they did but someone else might. Isn’t the whole idea of the hobby to do what you can with what you have available? Unless you are doing it with the intention of selling for a profit, build what you want and to hell with anyone else’s opinion. There are too many people that are way to “judgey” about other people’s work. In my experience the most judgey people are usually the last people who should be criticizing other people’s work. I have seen people going around saying “I would have done this or that differently” and when you see their build it won’t even pass a road safety inspection. Just my 2 cents.
