I love that Ian watched Mark’s eyes, and when he can see the smile through his damn eyes, he smiles too. They are so in love, I hope they have a very bright future ahead of them and stay together until death (which I pray isn’t until many many years).
I do love this interview, but I'm bothered that the majority of the questions are centered on Mark and his career and his coming out, etc. Very few questions are asked of Ian. The interviewer should have balanced the questions more--or the editor should have made sure to capture more of a balance in the cutting room if Ian's Q&A's were all cut out.
Agreed. I love Mark and could listen to him forever but Ian was just as involved in the play and should get more questions. They probably did ask but then edited them out
It's definitely an interesting work that's criminally overlooked and deprecated due to the subject matter and sometimes uncomfortable but very nuanced depiction of the lives of gay men at the time . The 1970 film uses the original Broadway cast.. Leonard Frey's portrayal of Harold alone is worth the figurative price of admission, so understated and genteel but a menacing presence that looms in the ether dulled within a haze of mary j, waiting to play his hand at the increasingly vicious and self loathing Michael.. Cliff Gormans portrayal of Emory too.. Superb film.
Homosexuality was decriminalized in Illinois in 1962, in Connecticut in 1970 and Oregon in 1972. Several other states stopped enforcing such laws as a matter of administrative policy in the late 1960s. So, her statement about decriminalization is not entirely true.
