    If we could just get this video to go viral and start getting EVERYONE to keep and eat sea robins, maybe I could get to my fluke without the hassle anymore!! Keep eatin' them sea robins!

    • @FishinAccomplished
      @FishinAccomplished  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, they really taste quite good… people just need to give them a chance!

      @@FishinAccomplished One thing I know to be true about sea robins AND porgies is that I've caught 10+ pound fluke on both! A sea robin strip and a whole regurgitated porgy!

      @@FishinAccomplished From now on I'm telling anyone I witness catch a porgy or a sea robin to keep it and eat it. To me, they are just a menace but why should I deny others from enjoying them as a delicacy?

    I agree that Sea Robin is definitely palatable! Here on Long Island Sound they can get pretty large - definitely a worthwhile by-catch to bring home - and no limits!

      Yeah, you can really stack up some serious filets if you put the time in!

    Idk if you’ll see this bc it’s an older video BUT for the Sea Robin you cut around the head like right behind the shell like a guillotine break past the spine but avoid going too far to the guts you can grab the head itself and peel it all the way down and back the skin comes off you get the whole tail meat and you can avoid losing the meat during the fillet process since you can cut closer to the spine since you can start from where the head and guts would be.

      Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I’ve heard/seen that method, but I have yet to try it! Perhaps next time I get into a bunch of nice robins!

    Sea robins are definitely underrated they're not the most appealing fish to look at but the filets are awesome. And JBay is just loaded with them for every 1 porgy you'll catch 3 sea robins.

    • @FishinAccomplished
      @FishinAccomplished  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree! I think it’s the optics that keep most people from keeping them! There sure are a lot of them in J-Bay… though a good percentage are little micro-Robins! Thanks for watching!

    I'm with ya on all 3 scores, I'll clean and eat both! I also think the look of the searobin and the fact that they are just a notorious interference fish that are easy to catch when fluke fishing lent them a bad rap over the years. I thoroughly enjoy specifically targeting porgy on very light tackle but the sea robins have a very boring head shake imo. Great analysis and great video!

    • @FishinAccomplished
      @FishinAccomplished  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it’s the looks and the fight of the robin… unless it’s a huge one, it’s that same dull pull that crushes any notion that you have a fluke at the end of your line! I agree though, jigging porgies in light tackle can be a blast, as they can put up some serious pull!

      Yeah, if only more people would give robins a chance, they wouldn’t take over the northeast waters every summer! Haha, thanks for catching the highlander reference!

    For years my fishing friends debated this about sea robin, recently I've determined that yes, sea robin is delicious. I like porgy also. Key is removing or not eating the red portions. Complete pancake mix batter and then coated with panko crumbs makes a great fried recipe for both. Good stuff, enjoyed.

    • @FishinAccomplished
      @FishinAccomplished  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it’s crazy, Sea Robins are quite tasty, considering how much they’re despised by most anglers! Thanks for the recipe recommendation!

    Great video idea man! I think it's the look of sea robins that throws people off in the US. I love how Porgy have a little more oil to them. Both taste great!

      @FishinAccomplished  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Bob! I agree, most people have trouble getting beyond the optics of the Sea Robins… when in reality, they’re pretty tasty! Of course, nothing against porgies… they’re quite good too! Thanks for watching!
