Isn’t it nice to have such longevity in certain pieces of your capsule wardrobe? I have several pieces that I’ve worn for 20 years, and I still love them, especially dresses. And I think the key to longevity is never using a clothes dryer but air drying every piece of clothing (and bedding and towels!)

I have just gone through my summer dresses....vintage FLAX mostly.....considering that linen is the most fragile fiber....air drying is the key. Also a little hole created by my lovely dog ten years ago is fine by me. Thank goodness I have some looser pieces because I have put on the COVID 15.

@@marylhere where did you hear linen is the most fragile fiber? I learned in school it is pretty much one of the strongest natural fibers.

Gitte Van de velde I studied textiles and indeed linen is the least durable fiber. Short fibers. Nylon is stronger than steel. It is a synthetic substitute for silk.

I really enjoyed this video, thank you!
There was something comforting the way you said "as my body changes" and we were able to see you in the pictures - what a journey, what a transformation from a girl into a mother.

I feel the same way about packing away and unpacking seasonal wardrobes. There's this excitement and newness of unveiling it again. Also, putting out of sight the off-season items helps bring clarity and simplicity to picking out what to wear today.

Yes, totally with you re: breezy summer pieces with coverage! It took me ages to discover this trick (I just recently got a few pieces like this for spring/summer) and it. is. a. GAME CHANGER.

I had a plain oversized grey tshirt, I actually had two. They were perfect functional, had lasted years. But identical and bland, so I learnt to embroider and embroidered a sleeve. It's so good with it's new life. 🌻

Great video! I agree about weather changes, was so excited for my first spring capsule and within a week I was digging out my shorts. It’s turned into a spring/summer capsule anyway - but definitely a learning process.

Thank you for answering the boredom question. This is my biggest struggle. I am challenging myself with your inspiration to get more creative AND to box away my seasonal clothes to get renewed excitement for those old faithfuls still around and learning to welcome them like old friends back into my closet.

    I love your red kimono!
I picked up some light layers this year second-hand because our basement is a little chilly, even during the summer. Since I work in the basement it's an essential. I only had one from last year and decided two more pieces would round out my wardrobe.

I'm just beginning my new journey to this concept. I am currently a maximumlist/shopaholic and occasional hoarder. What season are you? I am Spring which makes the other 3 seasons difficult to dress in. I love black and have way too much black that I am working on reducing. Do you think about your season when choosing your items?

I made made my first order with Encircled...however, I was told initially that the cotton in their fabric is organic but it is not. Now I am trying to return the items. I do not purchase clothes with non- organic cotton partly for my health but also for the health of the planet and also because non- organic cotton is not sustainable or ethical. The pesticides the farmers have to use on GMO cotton ( which is 80% of the world's conventionally grown cotton) has been scientifically proven and has now also been proven in the Californian courts of law to cause cancer (NHL). So I am quite disappointed and surprised that you both purchase and endorse this brand. Up until I actually emailed the brand to ask specifically about the cotton, I had pretty much assumed they would be using organic cotton because I have watched your videos and knew you purchased their clothing. Just saying....

Hi Sarah, I'm sorry you feel mislead. However I talk a lot about how important it is to find brands that match your personal values - everyone cares about slightly different things and to different extents. For example, some people care most about vegan brands, others avoid bamboo or cellulose based fibres, others care a lot about locally made, or plastic free products etc. there are no perfectly sustainable brands so it's always important to focus on your personal priorities and research brands that best fit those!
I've only shared their cellulose based pieces, but even so, for me using some regular cotton doesn't cancel out all the other great things they're doing (I understand the issues with conventionally grown cotton but organic isn't the most important quality in a brand for me). They're still a great brand with products I love wearing and I will still recommend them.

Oh no. Breastfeeding is such a good/healing thing for you baby’s gut flora! Have you looked into GAPS diet for healing your and your baby’s gut? I’m hoping the best for you and your baby. Problems in the gut could be the beginning to a lot of sickness and psychological problems later in life. I really find your kimono beautiful 🥰

Please be sensitive when making comments like that. I know you don't have any bad intentions but I have worked SO hard to try and breastfeed after our hospital stay and all my baby's stomach issues. I have worked with lactation consultants, done a TON of research and been on an insanely restrictive diet to be able to continue and I've had doctors, family and friends tell me I should just stop and give my baby formula for my own sanity and health, but I keep trying and pumping. I know breastfeeding is better, even the crazy expensive hypoallergenic formula can tells you that breastmilk is better and makes you feel guilty as if you have a choice to use it. After months and months on this journey I've finally accepted that expressed breastmilk is the best I can do for my baby. I'm generally pretty thick-skinned with internet comments but reading yours brought me to tears this morning as this is such a raw topic for me. I really don't need the guilt or suggestion that I might have damaged my child for life.

@@uniayang Way calmer than I would have been. If you're keeping your baby fed, you're doing an amazing job. My siblings and I were a mix of breast and formula-fed, and we all turned out healthy, happy, and extremely grateful to have a mom who loved us and did the best she could.

I read your comment on Instagram about this and I totally agree. I had every intention to breastfeed my son not only for him but for myself as well because I have uterine cancer and the hormones keep it away but my son ended up being born over 2 months early and spent 1 month in the NICU. Despite my best effort and help from professionals he just wasn't strong enough and it took too much of his energy he needed to grow. I exclusively pumped for 6 months and that's as long as I could go because my supply was just not enough to meet his needs. I remember mixing a bottle of formula in public trying to hide it because I felt ashamed. Now I feel proud with what I could accomplish given our situation and dared anyone to try and make me feel bad. It's not easy for everyone and there are so many variables! We do the best we can. I really wish people would stop commenting about this issue. I hate that I felt ashamed for so long.
