I have one also that is just like this that my father gave me, but it has the twist steal barrels, I believe. It's in very good condition. The serial number is in the 19000 range which shows it to be made in 1885. Like Larry said these were manufactured from 1878 - 1889. I am willing to sell for $1500. Beautiful gun that is part of our nation's history.
Do you still have it or have pictures? I just inherited one from the same year! It is in the 19300's. I've noticed many pictures of this model on the internet are slightly different in their artwork. It'd be cool to exchange pictures or something to see if ours are the same.

I have one , and it is BEAUTIFUL ! The Colt quality shines through , she is built as if you'd melted a bank vault full of swiss watches ! She stands out in a rack of other doubles , just like the sexiest woman at the dance ; ) >
I just inherited one of these guns. Serial number was high 19000's made in 1885 it looks like. It appears that from year to year there are subtle differences in the artwork, which is interesting. I've been trying to find another online that is exactly like mine but haven't yet.
My double barrel is a J stevens & arms Model 315 "Springfield"built between 1896 and 1914 (there is no id or date written on the gun, but i know later models did have dates) Hammerless, some jackass in the family decided it would be better sawed off a few inches without asking the owner, and there isnt much elegant about the thing. Its a great shooting shotgun though. I use it every time I bird or varmit hunt.
I own a 1878 Colt in 12 gauge.The serial number is 4831. Madeira Island, Portugal.

my dads got this gin and he has no idea what it is. he thinks its just a random double but its egsactly like this one.
