Thank you for mentioning Raiders, and E.T. We own both, and Raiders is terrible. Way worse than E.T. Now we're getting movies based on video games, so the video game tie in is in fact the video game on which the movie is based on.
D.T. it just occurred to me I'd like some Space Castle livery. How about a patch like the one you wear, and stickers of Goldblum and that nifty Space Castle itself? Perhaps as a Patreon tier?
I think my favorite movie tie in game was X-Men Origins Wolverine. Its amazing that the game was a way better story than the movie was, and had some kickass gameplay to boot. One of the worst for me was Batman and Robin on the PS1, which is a shame, because I remember being genuinely excited by trailers for it. It was the first open world batman game, but holy crap was it bad. The camera and the controls were abysmal.
I loved Wolverine's healing factor in the X-Men Origins game. It was ambitious and way over the top and hilarious at times, but really neat. And yeah, 1,000% better than the movie. I know a Wolverine superfan who still hasn't gotten over that movie.
Is the thumbnail image a still from the tie-in game for Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man movie? Because if there was one game that could have killed a trend, it was that wreck. It was amazing how the sequel won players' trust back with its explorable city map and intuitive, joyful web-swinging controls.
It's a screen from Spider-Man 2 - the good one. 😄 But yeah, the first movie Spider-Man game was pretty awful. The best part was Spidey taunting Vulture about being old as hell.
I had the Commodore 64 version of that Ghostbusters game. It was a remarkably poor showing by Activision, a studio that had earned my rock solid trust through years of addictive games for the Atari VCS/2600. The game was reportedly designed by David Crane himself, who in my eyes could have done no wrong up until that point. Looking ahead to the near future, there's a Dune MMO under construction right now. It's clearly an attempt to build on the success of Villeneuve's movies, even using the same "DUNC" logo; and it strikes me that the long production cycle of a game like this probably lines up neatly with the unique gap between installments of this film series, where each gets greenlit only after the one before it succeeds.
Weirdly, I’ve heard that the Sega Master System version of the same Ghostbusters game is actually pretty good and fun! Maybe weird, alternate ports of games (and comparisons between them) is a good topic for another video!
Hit me with your favorite movie tie-in games! Do you miss the trend, or are you okay with it being gone?

Dude, it is so weird how times have changed.
@@spacecastleshow It just took them like 25 years to start making decent video game movies.

My man. Are you on the Discord? Hit me up on there, and let’s get you sorted!
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher’s Bay is another good one. Arguably better than the movie.
Excellent call-out, and possibly the last great movie tie-in game.
