That appears to be a cutoff wheel, not a saw blade. On a comparative scale, those aren't that dangerous. If you work at it you can probably take off a finger, but you would have to work at it a lot more than with a saw blade. This won't pull you into the cut, and a blade will. Also, the footage there (and most of the video) is sped up a lot, he is actually moving fairly slowly. Not really dangerous at all compared to the presses and the drum sanders.

At 6:57 you see where they "radius" the shoes. We did that with every shoe we installed and they matched the drums where there was contact from end to end with the drum when applied. When they took those machines away the customer drove off with new shoes that only contacted the drum at both ends until the shoes wore in where there was total contact to the drum. They just should have had us wear dust masks so the customer could have a "complete" job.

It was called arcing the shoes. They ground the brake material (asbestos)on the shoe to match the arc or curve of the brake drum so there would be full contact from the get go. As you cut a drum it becomes larger inside and the contact of the shoe is reduced unless its cut to match that curve. In doing so it creates asbestos dust, that's why you can do it anymore.
