- In just a few weeks time Forza Motorsport 7 is going to be removed from all online marketplaces, so today I thought I'd pit it against it's developer stated "minimum system requirements".
In this case these suggested specs match my terrible "gaming" laptop that struggles to start Minesweeper without overheating.

(Ugh... No thanks. For 5th generation consoles I 'd rather run the games on emulators at 1080p, and for the case of PS1 in particular with PGXP enabled).
I'm willing to bet Gran Turismo 1 and 2 look better on the laptop at 60 fps with an emulator.
I've always held firm to the belief that if the uploader is having more fun with the videos then the viewer will too. And these shorter videos are a nice little break during a rough day.

I remember that 320 by 180 or 320 by 240 would've been the most common gaming resolution on a PC back in 1996.
It definitely reminded me of that era at 1:45. Games pretty much looked that jagged indeed.

To be fair, they only have so many resources, and right now they're focused on the next title down to get it out without ballooning from costs of supporting two games, more or less. At least FH4 has a end-of-life game plan, FH3 merely had an infinite, forever-forzathon.
The modding community will keep it alive well after.
Remember when we could find physical copies of games on eBay long after they went out of print? Nowadays if you miss out on making the digital purchase, you are out for good. You can MAYBE buy a key from a "key reseller", but those "gray market keys" come with caveats and supply is limited. And I don't know if the Microsoft store even allows for "redeeming" keys like Steam and Origin do.

This brings me back to early days of PC racing games with terrible resolutions.
It should be noted that the servers will stay up, so as long as you have the "game client" in essence, you can hook up to a server and play with the few others that actively return to older Forza titles.

you can also always purchase physical copies, at least on xbox
I really enjoy the shorter videos, they show that you do youtube with passion and out of pure love for tech and not just for the purpose of profit or fame even tho you deserve it. Cant wait to see that 980ti in action

980ti is a nice card, but imo a little overpriced on used market. It sits between 1070 and 1070ti performance wise, yet it costs as much as a 1070ti most of the time. So yeah, my gpu of choice would be a gtx 1080 for a few extra bucks
Honestly at that resolution scaling it looks like a psone title, if you grew up with a psone it looks totally legit !

It's for both, FM7 has crossplay so you can buy on either and play it on either. I'd stick with it on Xbox though, since the PC port tends to have a habit of not letting you go into the settings or a race after a while unless you reset the app data in W10 settings.
just got my hands on a 980ti for cheap. I think its pretty good all things considered, cant wait to see your video on it

I'm the exact opposite. I've never cared for the Forza Horizon series...but I LOVE the Forza Motorsport Series. I'm even still playing Forza Motorsport 3 and 4 on my trusty old 360. :)

That's exactly what Gran Turismo on the PS1 looked like.
I played Forza Horizon 4 for a total of around 10 hours.
I finished every single race in Forza Motorsport 7.
i played fm7 for a total of 30 hours
400 hours in fh4
i think fm7 is the title in the motorsport series i played the least.

I have a Lenovo Yoga Ultrabook with a Ryzen 2500U. And although it's a semi-decent APU it is heavily throttled due to the 15W TDP. Specs say it should reach 3200MHz CPU and 1100MHz GPU. However, it becomes a hot mess throttling every component in a way that is not good for games. My best practice is basically to set the computer to "Best battery life", then it forces the CPU to 1600MHz and the GPU is singing along at 1000MHz until it reaches 82°C, then it throttles and usually lands around 750-800MHz during heavy game sessions. If I play competitive CPU bound games, I choose max performance (1400-3200MHz CPU), lock framerate to 60fps and lower the in-game settings until the GPU stays around 400MHz. that way I get rid of CPU stutters. I just kind of wished the computer had two fans and heatsinks instead of one.... that way it could at least keep temperature throttling down.

Just got the ultimate edition for 20$ what a deal can't wait to play it.
The resolution scaling is extremely over powered. Upgraded to a 1440p ultrawide and my RX 550 4GB card is starting to chug. But the resolution/rending scaling setting saved destiny 2 and doom eternal for me. Running at native 1440p with 40 fps. Have both turned down to 70% resolution scaling. I feel like every game should have this godsend of a setting especially now with the GPU market issues.
Kinda bummed that we don't get more content but I totally get it! Hope you have a great time in your day to day life and that your not "busy" doing shite things!! Keep up the good work, look forward to the next one!

Omg, 25% of 720p looks like when I connected my PS2 to a big flat screen tv and played PS One games on it, love it
honestly even the horizon series runs decently well on budget rigs. a few years ago when the Hot Wheels expansion for FH3 was released, I was playing that in my English classes at school on an $1100 NZD (600ish GBP) laptop at 720p 30fps. I was determined to get all the awards on every event.

I'm really glad you mentioned this... I LOVE this game, as it's the last title to include my pride and joy / baby... My 99 SS LS1 Fbody. Reproduced in every of the tiniest details... Not sure I own it or not on PC.. I do on xbox, but may have just used games pass on PC... Time to purchase if not. Especially considering the fact that this title still looks INCREDIBLE when maxed out.
Fun fact, if you set the resolution to 360p, an i5-8250u with UHD620 can play Mario Kart 8 at full speed 60fps.

So my laptop has a fan boost mode, so I can set fans to full speed when I want to. I paid for the full fans, I'm gonna use the full fans. They sound a bit like turbos sometimes, it's awesome .
The 25% res scale Forza reminds me of how Gran Turismo I looks (and plays) on the PS1. I've got a launch edition PS1 and still play that game frequently...

This reminds me that in High school I had no job so the PC i had was an HP Pavilion Slimline with a really nice AMD E1 2500 CPU and 4GB of ram. I was stupid enough that the first game I ever bought was Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag which was one of the worst optimized games at the time of it's release on PC. I played the ENTIRE GAME at lowest settings at 900p at a wopping 5-10 FPS. Looking back i realize just how unplayable the game was and I'm baffled i finished the entire game.
If it's on a hard drive than that would be a large factor. Old hard 2.5 inch hard drives can slow down an otherwise fine pc down to an unusable point. It's happened to many machines that I've owned and I've fixed some by installing SSDS. You should investigate this and make a video if you're interested.
Skylake mobile runs real hot, acer aspire c24-760 all in one pc died opening microsoft word and excel and a chrome youtube video at the same time. It was at 45% brightness. RIP

A shame this is happening, but was going to at some point. Odd that it is before the next motorsport title comes out though. And you might not be able to get the DLC after it goes, along with getting it on PC, but will still be able to get it on the console. So once again, physical wins over digital, from the fact you can still get the game like that.

I don’t understand the game development world in regards to licensing. But I think this is something that needs to be addressed for game preservation purposes. What happens to all these games with expired licenses that can no longer be bought? Like all those licensed Platinum games (Transformers Devestation, Legend of Korra PC, etc) that you can no longer buy on PC. It’s not like the licensees are interested in support or infrastructure costs related to continuing the sale. It’s a shame, really.

Forza 7 was hands down the game I was most excited for at launch. I was a huge fan of Forza 4 on 360, but I skipped the Xbox 1 all together when I became a PC only gamer. Forza on PC was set to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, as the saying goes.
That micro transaction laden collectathon dumpster fire was the first game I ever returned, and I am sour to the franchise now. I'm glad this disaster it at EOL.
Every official statement on the upcoming Forza keeps repeating "back to the racing roots," I plan to study the reviews, once available, and I MIGHT give this franchise another go. Until then, Forza is a Microsoft published EA game.
Its sad really, the original Forza fans are being left behind for the horizon train.

for some reason I came into this kinda expecting a video essay on the pitfalls of drm and the inevitable obsolescence of all things :P
I thought he was going to say that laptop was considered at "end of life", but still worked fine.
I mean, people are all on about that, citing Apple as one of the worst, but I'm still rocking my iPhone 5s and it still receives updates even though official support ended like earlier this year or last year. - That's EIGHT YEARS, not one or two. And it still works, battery too, just doesn't have much storage and memory, but it's just for communications, information and organization to me, so I don't need a 1000-Euro mini-tablet in my pocket.
