Great to see a video like this with original sound in HD. Thanks for posting it. Reminded me of my Navy days (Royal Australian Navy) and a ride I got in a Shit-Duck back in 1982 just before Bob Hawk scrapped the fleet Air arm (bastard!). Best ride in a jet I've ever had, never forget it.
I was a safety and survival mech.in the USMC ('63 - '67) and got to ride backseat in both the TF-9J Cougar and the TA-4F (VMT-103 at MCAS El Toro & MCAS Yuma) ................. brought back a lot of mems ...................... ;-p
Mike, Yikes!!!!! Very cool! You didn't drop any ordnance, did ya'? Spectacular! To say the least, it must have been thrilling! Keep us informed as to when you'll fly again. Yaaa hoooo!!

I originally was assigned to A-4's but I was too big so the Marine Corps made me an A-6 driver , my shoulders were too damn wide for that narrow cockpit . Even in the A-6 the BN would complain from time to time when he would catch an elbow .
I also asked this on the A-4 forum. As I recall, at 1g, the aerodynamic slats begin to come down at around 200 kias and are fully extended at about 150 kias. I notice, on final, the right slat is barely out and on the rollout, it is fully retracted until about 80 kias or so, and then it drops down. Have these slats been modified?
I think your criticism is unfair. It's one thing to be in a military aircraft with an ejection seat, and Uncle Sam's maintenance and another thing to be a private owner of an almost antique jet (without an ejection option) landing by special permission at a NAS facility. I would think you would tend to fly a bit more conservatively. At least i would.
I have to agree. You would have to have a death wish to fly this single engine airplane without an ejection seat because, without one, if it quits off the departure end, unless you have another 6 to 7k’ MINIMUM runway right in front of you...you’re going to die. No ifs, ands or buts.
Used to ride back seat in Beeville Tx. One of my favorite jets!
I miss the S-3s at North Island!

Nice... we flew Skyhawks with our RNZAF... Thanks from NZ 👍🇳🇿
I have been in there with the C-141 and the C-17. I cant imagine in an A-4. That's awsome!!!!

This is a flash back!
This isn't the one that's the gate guard now is it?
What is a 'Sky'awk'?
That was too F'n Bitchen! What a day to fly into NASNI !!
Definitely cool! But why the flare landing? I was taught to fly the ball and hit the numbers. (40+ yrs ago)
Yes, but you didn't have to pay for your own maintenance then!
Your callsign when contacting North Island tower is SKYHAWK?
good video.....
was that a whale in the water at 2:19?
I didn't see anything but a reflection.
Shadow of the aircraft.
It was or either a huge White Shark
Hi Skyhawk. Did you need special permission to land at NAS North Island? Great vid by the way. Thanks also for not making it into a music video :)

Kind of a whimpy looking break.

@@Doones51 Why is there no ejection option?
