    I went to that area this past weekend and there is no longer dispersed camping. There are only (8) designated areas along FR525 where camping is allowed. They were all packed when I was there so I just drove back home to Mesa. I was pretty deflated. I did not have a contingency plan. I really like your videos. You are pretty informative. Thank you.

      That's sad to hear. It sounds like they stopped dispersed camping down that road. I'll pin this comment, maybe it'll help someone else out. Thanks for watching.

      It's because some campers trashed the area with complete disregard to nature.

    Try FS 618, is opposite 179 entering to Sedona from the 17. It is a gorgeous area connecting back to the 260 near Camp Verde allowing free camping.

    I camped here before. It gets pretty cold at night (low 20's in January) and a hot air balloon crashed in the middle of the road. My Audi at the time had a misfired spark plug and AAA was going to take 2.5 hours coming from flagstaff, so I hitchhiked to Sedona, rented a uhaul and car trailer and drove my car back to tempe (I went to ASU at the time). Good times.... I should probably get out there and give it another go so I can redeem myself

      Sedona is a nice area to check out and camp. Where I was at, they changed it to no dispersed camping, now they have designated spots to camp at on that road from what I am hearing. Safe Travels!

    Such a beautiful place Mark. I've been there a couple of times. You did such a wonderful job filming and showing it. As always, it was good to see you again. I guess you're back home in Arkansas and will be doing some more camping around there. Take care and remain safe. I'm glad you did not get taken by a Cougar. • @DispersedCamperMan

    Hey! Went here the other day and all the camp spots were closed besides the 2-3 big ones where all the RVs are. Any idea on that? Maybe they close them during winter?

    • @DispersedCamperMan
      @DispersedCamperMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was there a couple of years ago and you could camp anywhere. I just looked on iOverlander and folks are saying they have closed that whole road except for a couple of designated camping area. I guess it was getting overused so they made a couple of designated camping spots only.

    Hey Mark, so this is your last SW trip video? That must mean a whole new slew of home turf camping videos, dispersed style of course.. I know how you enjoy riding your motorbike around the forest roads. See lots of good stuff fast. I'm just wondering if you have watched "Itchy Boots" on YT? 5 years riding her bike all over the world, currently just entering Namibia. She was just given an impromptu tour of a Diamond mine by a security force. Very interesting. If you've never seen her, she does a good job. As for me, I'm charging batteries and hiking the Lewis River Tomorrow. Take care...

      I'm staying the summer in Arkansas, checking out the forest areas here. I haven't seen Itchy boots. I'll check her channel out. Have fun on your hike!

    LOL I camped up on the hill with all the people, same spot as the truck camper. I normally avoid people and other campers but it was worth it for sunset and sunrise, and watching the hot air balloons.

    • @DispersedCamperMan
      @DispersedCamperMan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL I was tempted to camp up there, but when I passed through trying to find a spot, it was really crowded up there. It would be a great spot to camp at if you could find it deserted. LOL

  • @juliansoler8532
    @juliansoler8532 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This spot was awesome! I'm planning on going up there at the end of the month with some buddies but I heard that camping is closed around there. Did you have any trouble with that?

    • @DispersedCamperMan
      @DispersedCamperMan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was there back in March and didn't see any camping areas that was closed. If you are hearing that it is closed, I would suggest you have a back up plan just in case it is closed. I do hope it isn't. Let me know what you find out.

    I live in Sedona, and I can tell you that Secret Mountain Wilderness is not south of Sedona. It is north of Sedona. Yes, you do go south on 89A to Forest RD 525 which heads NE. There are also other ways to access this. One is from the north from rt. 66 which is north of the area.

    This area is now closed to dispersed camping. The only one i know of around the area is down the Hwy about 10 for miles on AZ trust land. A permit is required BUT there are mostly overrun by homeless people living there waaaay past the 14 day limit. Run down and unsafe to stay even for a night now. So sad that the land is treated like this
