Our First Time Fasting for Ramadan, Malaysia 🇲🇾 | Iftar & Puasa - Kuala Lumpur 2024

- We have spent many years coming to Malaysia and are aware of how amazing this period of the year is.
It's a very sacred time for many in Malaysia as it's the month of Ramadan, as foreigners it's important to respect and truly understand the sacrifice many make each day of Ramadan by fasting.
We were kindly invited to an Iftar in Kuala Lumpur and there was no better time to try fasting ourselves for the first time.
How did we cope? What did we do? How did we break fast at the Iftar? How did a British person and a Italian person manage it?
We all know someone who is practicing Islam, but we don't all know how difficult fasting is on a daily basis - I'd definitely recommend everyone to try this to really understand the sacrifices that are made and get a better understanding of Ramadan. (It's more than just the amazing food at Ramadan Bazaars, you know!).
Let us know how you think we did?

We are Pat & Giulia, a couple from 🇬🇧 and 🇮🇹 living in London.
We decided to go travelling and ended up living getting stuck in Malaysia during 2020 which spurred the creation of this channel, we're now back on the road after a lengthy hiatus!
We're Malaysian enthusiasts who enjoy discovering spots off the tourist trail and don’t like taking ourselves too seriously. We're not here to be vloggers or to be famous, we're not necessarily here to "inspire" anyone to travel either - just enjoy the spontaneous fun of it, weird situations and of course making local friends.
If you like our videos, chuck us a subscribe or give us a shout on instagram.
Welcome to Msia & nice to meet you all here. in Islam, fasting teach us to feel how the poor people feel with there are no food to eat & drink safe water. so the rich can give some food to the poor people & to prevent the poor people to rob for food. Also hope for country that is on war in east west to cease fire. TQ for this video.😍✌
Did you know they have been in Malaysia since Covid19 / PKP ?
Mrk ni sentiasa kembali ke Malaysia sekali setahun sejak 2020.
Fasting is not just avoiding foods and drinks but to control our desire to all sorts of temptations.. besides for remembrance to those who are unfortunate. To feel and take fasting as lesson learnt to improve our life, faith and attitude.
💯🙏🏻
Went i fasting i always get tears in my eyes thinking poor palestian kid how hungry they are... Fasting teach me how to love other and thank to god almigty for what we have...
Thanks to you too for reminding me..
Very true and thank you for remind me to be grateful with what we have... Alhamdulillah 🥰
Another benefit of the Ramadan fasting is that you're humbling yourself to be better human and in solidarity of the poor people without food. Experiencing their thirst and hunger in controlled environment so that you know what the exact things the poor needed and to give back to the society as a whole.
1. Inviting them for Iftar
2. Preparing special food (because both of them are vegetarian)
3. Packing favorite food for takeaway
4. Sent them home
That is a very great courtesy of your friend. Utmost respect 😉😉
When you're a Muslim, he or she can niat and du'a so that you will not be hungry, thirsty, sleepy, tired or for any good cause that you would want or wish while you're fasting, Subhanallah, Allah will fulfill sooner or later, As Muslim you need to be patient and always 'bersyukur' and thankful to Allah. Wallahu'alam.
I am fasting and watching your IFTAR from LOS ANGELES.

Proud of you guys for fasting and respect our Muslim friend.
That’s the feeling. Your first cold drink after you fast the whole day. I love that feeling ❤
18:50 usually in malay culture, in any event or party, those who leave the last is consider among the close friends or relatives to the host. So don't worry, you were not overstay. The host will feel glad and appreciate if you are among the last to leave as guest.
Hope this can be pin 📍 because its true facts ❤
Woww..nice batik shirt bro...
Eat to live not live to eat. So, remember guys, your body doesn't need excess food. If you overeat before, try fasting, autophagy is good.
Calm down
eat more@@alphacentauri6360
Some of us muslim do fasting twice weekly on monday and thursday
Oooh that’s good for health
You both are very lucky to experience this moment while in Malaysia.. i cannot help it but smile when you tried to remember and pronounce "pucuk ubi poo-chuk uu-bee and terung ter-rong) 😅
By the way.. Usually the OG Malay (elderly kampung person) will avoid eating "pucuk ubi" when it was on dry and hot season.. because it will make you feel dizzy.. it just an old tips...
The host is thoughtful towards you
Keep on fasting you two,the best moment is during the break of fast, but like you said, the Ramadan bazaar can be dangerous, you're tempted to buy the whole bazaar, take care you two
About being last at the table, dont worry about it. Most of them left early for prayer.
people leaving for prayer brother.no worries about it.n then they comeback continue the event❤❤❤❤
Just to clarify, people left before you to do their sunset prayers. You certainly did not outstay your welcome.
Glad you had a good time.
Betul
They left for maghrib prayer...after that they continue for heavy meal...until isyak prayer at 8.30 pm and then tarawikh prayer after that..
"'victory'' for who performs fasting.. victory to both of you!..
Syukur Alhamdulillah, Thanks to the family Hosted the iftar with you guys ... Rahmadan is all about compassion, loves ,sharing to other & appreciated what we had.
For tips, if you're heading to events like celebrations or feasts, it's a good idea to rock traditional Malaysian attire like Baju Melayu for guys or Baju Kurung for ladies. It adds a nice touch of elegance and respectfulness to the occasion, making both of you shine a bit brighter. Plus, it's always appreciated when outsiders embrace Malaysian tradition at certain gatherings.
At least have u experience the Iftar & you know how happy is,
thank u
Fasting is similar to intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting is 16 fasting hours and eating for 8 hours. There are two types of fasting, drying fasting, no water, and liquid fasting, which can drink water.
What is intermittent fasting never heard about it
WC to Malaysia and being respectful to our holy month of Ramadhan... After this can buy baju kurung and baju raya😅😊❤
Nice to see both of you here in Malaysia again. Hope you guys will experience Hari Raya open house again soon. Love and take care.. 💕
When u break fast a glass of plain water taste like honey from heaven
its nice to know other people from other countries enjoyed the hospitality of our fasting events. note to urself that people leave early bcos they had to go pray for maghrib and isyak prayer. i hope in the next day u will prepare n joined another iftar no matter where is the event during this ramadan month in malaysia. try it, its worth it.
I always click the like even before watching your video as I know it will be interesting always.
Selamat berbuka puasa Pat n Julia.
Yes, the hardest part is battling the thirst...quite surprised that Julia favorite dish is "gulai pucuk ubi". If you plan to fast again recommend trying eating avocado during sahur 👌

🙏🏻
Wc🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
❤❤❤❤❤
12.hours, 25-30 minutes only of fasting if you ate sahur around 5am-5.30am, or much later before subuh azan/call for prayer
She is sort of right in saying fasting gets easier the longer you go. Because we do it every day for a whole month the body gets used to it and after the first two three days it gets much much easier. So working while fasting is actually easier than it sounds.
It is ok if you stay long if you want too. Depends on crowds and the availablity of seating. If you notice the seating not enough you can consider to move. I think you guys as their special guest so im sure they are fine. Btw, congrats to both of you fasting. Keep it up for a month 😊. Still not too late to say Welcome Back to Malaysia 😊❤
Wow, That was a heavy meal in the breakfast. "Pat has been really grumpy " , haha! Well, pretty understandable. I have to agree the fasting on the food part , that i can manage, but as for the liquid ,that's a different story especially i sweat a lot. Must have been hell of an experience for both of you.
Hi Pat and Julia ( if misspelled, my apologies). Thanks for sharing your very first iftar experience. I am proud to note that you both fast on that day! I like your shirt, Pat. Is that Malaysian batik? Also, I wonder if Julia will wear " baju kurung" for the future occasion, perhaps for Hair Raya.
The food spread looks amazing and yummy and you both are very fortunate.
So thoughtful of u guys to fast along with them. Thank you 🥰
👍👍👍
Owow. Way to go 💪🏽.
oh
Usually the host ‘tapau/ takeaway ‘ food only for relatives and close friends👍 yr friend really generous 🥰🥰
Fasting is very good for health if you are used to it it becomes easy
usually for us as muslim..i dont know for others but for me ..the first 2-3 days.. I'm having little difficulties to adapt the new routine from fasting..but after that no big problem at all
