- It's Saturday in our remote Alaska village and it's the start of the cold. cold days. Today, we reached 30 degrees below 0. Cold! Follow along for my day in a life living in 30 below in remote Alaska.

It is gorgeous in Alaska, but wow the cold would kill me! I’m from California & think I’m freezing when it’s 50 out… that’s about the cold of winter for me! ❤❤❤

It's where you're brought up and what you get used too. I was to Tulare California for the farm show and we are from Central Minnesota and we were wearing capris and a light spring coat while most folks out in California were wearing winter coats, boots, hat, scarf and mittens and I just thought wow. We tolerate the cold better but you folks tolerate the heat better in the summer. When it hits 30 degrees in Minnesota we put away the winter coats and out come the sweatshirts. It's what you get used too.
The good thing about Akaska is that it's big and not everywhere in Alaska gets this cold. Like Kodiak (it's an island) is more mild but has weather more like Chicago. So don't count yourself out yet ❤😁

Yes, the cold snap this winter with subzero temps for several weeks was crazy.
I watched my Grandson's basketball game via Facebook live this week. Awesome to be able to watch him when the weather is bad and I'm not my best. Stay warm!!

Love watching your videos, you have a very calming presence.. My great grandmother taught me how to crochet, I was like 7 some of my best memories with her. We do a lot of meat bowls, I try to cook my beef up and then freeze it , for some throw together meals. We do taco bowl, Italian meat bowl ,cheeseburger bowl, depending on mood, and toppings we have .Thank you for these wonderful little videos.

Fried rice with leftover cold rice, mini pizza using English muffins and whatever toppings you have, salmon helper (like hamburger helper but use salmon)
I am in Nebraska, we had -30 for just a few days - I actually enjoyed it, wore a hoodie and a light jacket and was totally fine. I do hate snow though so couldn’t survive there.

If you have canned salmon, a favorite dish in our house is called salmon delight. All you do is take one egg, crack it into a bowl and whisk it with a fork. Brake up two pieces of bread into the egg, add a drained can of salmon and combine together until the bread, fish, and egg is combined. Salt and pepper to taste and then fry in butter stirring frequently until browned. It is basically a hash and something I have enjoyed since I was a kid.

Love your videos!! I live in North Dakota so I feel your pain with the cold weather, we had a stretch here in January it was -70 with the wind chill, sewer vents were freezing over so it got kinda scary. Cold is not fun! Hang in there girl spring is coming 🥰🌸🌺

I've been crocheting and knitting since I was a child, as an adult got heavily into crochet and then knitting just took over my life. I'm not sure what it is, but once I started using circular needles I just kinda gave up on crochet. I still dabble a bit, but know totally what you mean about loving knitting.

Maybe cook crock pot dishes so you can kind of set it and forget it until its done. Also i love all types of meaty soups on cold days with some toasted baguette

My mental health would NEVER let me live in Alaska.
Hey are you a casserole fan? You can use shelf items like the macaroni and chili or the noodles and tuna and whatever veggies you like to make a quick casserole. Also canned fish 🎣 of any variety can make croquettes. Mix with an egg and either breadcrumbs or crushed crackers or flour or cornmeal. Add a bit of onion and whatever else you like seasoning wise. Pat them into burgers and then panfry or air fry or even bake. Ooh I forgot about dumplings. That’s another quick hot meal. I like to add cracked pepper and herbs to mine and they make any soup into a hearty meal ❤
1 can of chili split between 2 adults is not enough. Especially in that cold.
I’m confused.. you said you used potatos that you picked last summer?? How are they not bad? I feel like I buy potatos and they go bad in like less than 2 weeks?
Potatos, onions, Apples, etc can be stored for months, if done right.
It is because they have already been stored for months prior to entering the shop. My daughter in law’s family do apples and they pick them and store them and they last for months.
