- We often hear rappers mentioning when they went gold, or even platinum, but it's once in a blue moon that a rapper achieves diamond status on one of their records. Whether it be an album or a song, to be RIAA Certified Diamond you have to sell 10 million units.
Only the most highly regarded artists have been able to do this - Eminem, Outkast, Tupac - but there's some other artists that you might find quite surprising on this list. If that's the case, be sure to let me know in the comments.

2Pac's & Biggie's are probably the most impressive. Both costed more than a traditional album & their target audience is at the bottom of the economic totem pole. They didn't have the luxury of having many Sub-Urban & Rural fans like some other musicians yet still went diamond.
Half of their fans were "suburban". If your album goes diamond & tops the charts, best believe your fan base are not just people from the hood. You can find countless flics of pac standing with white fans.

Making it number 4 fastest selling album across any genre of music.
Apart from Eminem, no other rap or hip hop artist got more then 1.5 mill first week.
Past 2005 (again, Eminem) only 1 other album got more then 1.5 mill first week and that was adele.
The odds of any other hip hop artist or a rapper to break Ems record are almost 0.

The fact that Big had only 3 years of solo career and only 2 studio albums throughout that career but still is considered to be one of greatest rappers actually makes him one of the greatest
Eminem is the most impressive. Neither one of his albums were double disk which means he actually sold 10 million records each. Double cds count as 2 records sold meaning the people on this list with double cds actually sold 5 million. The record is counted twice.

Recently listed to chronic and Doggystyle. Not really feeling them now. Of all the albums I listed, even though I don't agree with much of the lyrics anymore, I think All Eyez on Me and It's Dark and Hell is hot aged the best. The songs still sound good today.

Fun Fact: MC Hammer, Makaveli, Eminem, & 50 Cent all went diamond with solo discs. The double disks that went diamond were multiplied by two so they actually sold / shipped at least 5 Million units. Not the 10 Million Diamond status.

There's *A LOT* of things wrong in this video:
1. Double albums are counted twice for certifications, so in reality they only sold half the amount as non-double albums.
2. Tupac did NOT have the first double album in Hip Hop, it was "He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince in 1988.
3. MC Hammer and Beastie Boys also had diamond albums in Hip Hop.
4. The only non-double albums in Hip Hop to go diamond include: Country Grammar (Nelly), Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em (MC Hammer), Licensed to Ill (Beastie Boys), Devil Without a Cause (Kid Rock), The Eminem Show (Eminem), and The Marshall Mathers LP (Eminem).
You also have to mention earnings. Double Albums counted twice because an album generally costs $8-$10 and double albums generally cost $17-$22. So you’re essentially having 1 product cost close to or more than twice as much as everyone else’s albums. It’s like selling 1,000 pairs of $100 shoes vs 500 pairs of $200 shoes. It’s the same outcome.
