Always loved this one!!! Excellent performance, Natalie!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I had great plans to record this whole rag, but I'm so lazy that I only recorded a short snippet of the A section for the end credits on my long videos. Thanks for doing the whole thing!!! Always fun to try to guess when you will jump octaves!!!!
Aw, thanks so much for this comment, my friend Chris! 🥰🥰 a joyful rag indeed. I remember you commented a while back that you like Peacherine. The A section is a good choice for the end credits! 👍🏻 Thanks for being so supportive! 😄
Haha, changing octaves is kinda my thing 😆 keeps the rags fun and different that way.

Terrific Rag Natalie! I never heard this one, it is amazing! I've always loved Ragtime and you play it so well!👍✌🏼😎
Many thanks to you, Jimmy! 😎 So glad you liked this cute happy rag 😃 Ragtime really is the best genre ✌🏻
Very happy music. Haven't heard that one before. One suggestion - it is time for that piano tuning! ❤
This is a happy tune indeed 😃 thanks for watching!
Ah, I actually just got my piano tuned this past February! Maybe the audio doesn’t translate super well into the mic 🙂
Your piano is in fine tune, I would suggest that a liano never to be placed hear a window or outside wall. The temp swings can cause the strings to expand amd contract and make the piano seem to go out of tune often ESP during season changes
Also humidity changes can cause the soundboard to split (if its not one piece) and the pin block could soften. There is tremendous tension on the strings and subsequently tension on the pins in the pin block.
My aunt has 5 pianos in her house with a Steinway concert grand in her living room. She only plays by ear and she could tell with certainty' when one of her pianos went out of the by the slightest bit. She would drive the piano tuner crazy but she was always right
@@rty1955 hey there, and thanks for your comment! I totally agree about not putting a piano near a window for all the reasons you stated. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment, and that is the only I space I have to place my piano 😔 during the hotter months, I use a piano cover over the piano, that’s the most I could do.
Thanks for pointing this out and writing it to me, I appreciate it! Your aunt is a lucky lady to have 5 pianos in her home, and to even have a grand piano! I love that she has such a sharp ear to play by ear and to tell if a piano is out of tune. Ha, I love her confidence to point out even the slightest out of tune sounds 🙂
Nicely done.
Thanks! 🙏🏻
Great playing Natalie! One of my favorite Joplin pieces! You can see the joy you have playing.

Really polished! I have to remind myself sometimes that you taught yourself piano, one would never guess.

@@Natt_piano What's your favorite or top five favorite Joplin pieces? What other kinds of music do you play?
@@rallstonianmusicreport1975 hmm good question; I’d say from Joplin, my favs would be: Searchlight Rag, Paragon Rag, Sunflower Slow Drag, Pineapple Rag, Cleopha, and also Peacherine Rag. (I have all of those recorded).
And I only play Ragtime on the piano 😆 I’m self taught actually, and dedicated myself to learn this wonderful music.
I also subscribed to you, I see you know about music, too!
@@Natt_piano That is really cool that you have dedicated yourself to play his music. He is one of my musical heroes and heroes in general. Another favorite of mine in terms of piano is Floyd Cramer. Country piano player legend credited for the slip note stsyle. His grandson is Jason Coleman who has a youtube channel. Just type in his name and you'll find his channel. Thank you so much for subbing to my channel. Hope you find some of the videos interesting.
@@Natt_piano Nice top picks you have. The Maple Leaf and The Entertainer are on my list as they were the first of his rags that I learned how to play. I also like the Pineapple Rag, Peacherine Rag, The Solace Bethena, and the Ragtime Dance, which I gave a thumbs up on your video. Searchlight adn Cleopha are ones I haven't listened to in a while. How did you teach yourself to play did you play by ear or learn to read sheet music?
Congrats, Natalie, you're getting better with any video you upload. The time you spend practising truly is time well spent. Your certitude playing the runs has reached a high level. Thus, the heaviness of your keystroke has become more variable and controlled.
In this Rag I especially like the move to adapt your play to the character of the different parts. It starts with a lighthearted melody and you play it with your fingers quasi flying across the keyboard. Further in in the piece, where it becomes more severe and strenuous, you change the stroke and tempo which nicely highlights the change in character.
And again, during your play, your facial expressions as it were comment what you are up to resp. how you feel about what you have done. That's exactly what I love so much about your clips. What else should be the reason to use the visual channel, too? To see just a person sitting there playing would be boring after a while. But seeing the player's emotions and reactions adds that extra zest that makes music out of what I hear.
What a special comment from you, my friend Joe! I definitely am getting better & better with each rag as I’m learning to “control” my playing and keystrokes. I do spend a lot of time learning and practicing, and it’s really nice to see all appreciating my devotion to this great music.
I knew you’d notice the change in tempos for certain sections. I felt it was appropriate to do that for this rag because each section has different feelings / character for sure. I know viewers generally are either in support of having different tempos within a rag or they are adamant that a rag must be the same tempo from starts to finish. I’ve done that a few times before and that idea fits here with Peacherine so well (in my opinion).
I try to express myself with my playing to make it more “connectable”, but when a rag is more difficult, it is harder for me to do so. This rag is very simple and lighthearted, so it was very easy for me to let myself be loose and free with this one. You’re right that a visual channel is special in that you can see the emotions and movements of the pianist rather than just hearing an audio file of the music. Thanks for enjoying and watching ❤️
Very clever little rag, dear Natalie! Do you play all of this by ear? Outstanding performance and interpretation! I had a music teacher years ago who would play jazz and ragtime, but she could never quite get the hang of it, and her performances sounded mechanical! :-) However, you're a natural! Big L176! Best regards, Michelle
Aw, thanks dear! 🩷 this is such a happy rag indeed. I am a self-taught pianist and use notes to learn and memorize; I do not have the ability to sight-read or learn by ear. Do you play by ear? :)
Ah, how nice to know you’re familiar with jazz & Ragtime from an old music teacher! I admittedly used to play very mechanically at first (my first few videos portrayed that), but I learned to play more loosely / naturally with more practice and comfort behind my phone when recording 😆.
It’s all about playing with your heart :)) and I’m glad I learned to channel that when I play instead of focusing on just trying to hit all the right notes!
@@Natt_piano Your self-teaching has certainly paid off because you do a fantastic job, dear Natalie! I'm able to play by ear, but I also read music; my Mom was adamant about learning to read music as a child! Ha, ha! :-)
@@ForeverMPH Thank you 🥰 You're lucky that you can play by ear! That must be easier than reading sheet music sometimes 😂 Good that your mom was adamant on being able to read music, I think it is like being able to read a whole lanuage! :)
This is excellent, all your Joplin is great! Wondering how long it takes you to master these songs? I have been working on Maple Leaf Rag for over 6 months, with daily practice and still not finished. You have so many mastered just wondering how you do it? Keep up the good work.
Hey, thanks so much, Johnny 😊 your comment was so nice 🙏🏻
So rags like Peacherine, for ex., would take me 2-3 weeks at most bc it’s simple. “Harder” rags like Maple Leaf would take me a month. It just depends how challenging the piece is and how much time I have to devote to learning and practicing, too.
Tbh, Maple Leaf isn’t as hard once you get it down! The jumps are the hard part for the left hand, but the right hand is a fairly straight forward pattern Ragtime imo. (I’m actually in the process of working on Maple Leaf again to upload a newer/better version lol). Good luck getting it mastered! 💪🏻
Great cover, I'd like to ask..I can't see or hear if you used or not, but do you recommend using pedal in this song?
Thanks for watching! 😃 I always use a pedal when playing Ragtime! It helps enhance certain areas when holding a note or notes would be helpful. I use pedal at my discretion, sometimes I press the pedal softly and sometimes I’ll press it harder.
One of my Joplin favorites, and played at just the right tempo. Nothing worse than Joplin rags played like it’s a race against time.
Peacherine Rag is one of my favs also, it’s such a happy tune 😊 I agree, it’s nice to hear Joplin rags played at leisurely tempos to enjoy the beautiful melodies and notes
Depends on the piece as i am still young i prefer rags played faster but 2 pieces i really dont like played slow are Lily Queen and Felicity Rag they are such good pieces when played fast but when those 2 pieces are played slow they become really boring
@@kingsbishop1479 Oh indeed! The tempos really depend on the piece, some are better faster for sure and some are better when played slowly. I agree with Felicity Rag being played fast, it sounds good that way
@@Natt_piano have you listened to Alessandro Simonetto versions before in a playlist i find it so interesting how he makes you bored by playing one piece really slow eg The Chrysanthumum and then the next piece like Sugar Cane extremely fast and vigorous that always makes it interesting
@@kingsbishop1479 I have not heard of Alessandro Simonetto but looked up his version of The Chrysanthumum, and yeah it is wayyy too slow for my liking 🙃 It would be a drag to listen to the full rag at that pace. Some rags sound better slower for sure, but not thaaaat slow lol.
What does 'Peacherine' mean? My guess is it's like 'peachy'.
I have no idea what Peacherine means 😆 it does seem like another word for “peachy”, which makes sense because this rag indeed is peachy (happy)!
Peacherine is a fruit that is a cross between a peach and a nectarine. The tune and the fruit both appeared around the turn of the century.
@@tomc101 how interesting, I like the fusion of the words peach and nectarine. Thanks for sharing this cool fact!

Skill and knowledge is something I feel in art like this, but I wounder if you had been given a sheet of paper showing notes of a random 16 bit tune, how far can you take that?
This is delightful--and thank you for playing one of the 'also ran' tunes. My parents were bowled over by the revival in the early 70s. Mom would accompany everything with "A one-y and a two-y ..." and my father, who couldn't read, would work them out when nobody was home. The family sacred moment was watching Eubie Blake on the TV at 93. "If I'd'a known I was going to live this long, I'd'a taken better care of myself!"
Thank you for watching ☺️ such a happy and popular tune indeed. How special that your parents experienced the Ragtime revival in the 70’s! Thanks for sharing with me, it’s nice you had some good musical moments with your family. And ah, you can’t go wrong with Mr. Blake! 🎶
