This is great to see Harrison Ford mentoring younger folks interested in aviation. I had no idea he took over the position chuck Yeager had. It's great to see him give a shout out to eaa and Oshkosh. This remains one of the best airshows and places for aviation nuts. Glad to see Harrison likes it. Wonder how many times over the years he has flown his plane there. Thanks!

I met Mr Ford at Oshkosh and Col. Chuck Yeager also.
Took a young eagles flight many years ago with Col. Yeager.
He was still Young Eagles ambassador the last time I was at Oshkosh in 2002
In a matter of a few hours Col. Yeager took a bunch of Young Eagles up in the 1927 Ford Trimotor from the EAA Museum, took the time to say hi, shake my hand and sign my Trimotor ticket, then jump in his P 51 and fly in formation with 19 other P 51 mustangs!
      RIP Colonel !
      Fair skies and tail winds...
Check your six and press on!

@@b.atwater3904 That's terrific you got to meet both folks I really admire! Only been to Oshkosh once around 2012 ish I think. It was a great show that had the warbirds from past and present. Still remember watching a f14 fly slow with a ww2 Grumman f4. And the f14 pilots hotdogoging it out of Oshkosh when they were leaving . A sight to behold when having off in afterburner! I did spend some time in the eaa museum and wish I got to see more. Also remember getti g to see a b29 up close and even fly! It's funny you mention the p51 mustang. I think they were given rides if you had the $$. Around $1400 I think. Some good memories! Would love to go back and hopefully see ford there in the future!

Interviewed Harrison on some press junkets, also connected with him at an aviation event in Denver. He’s also surprisingly soft-spoken. A classy gentleman by any measure.

I could not have put that any better myself. Flying to me isn't about ego. Just because I can fly a plane doesn't make me special. But it does open up a world that anyone with drive can be a part of, but few do. At the end of the day Mr Ford may be a good actor and a grumpy interviewee, but he's really just a pilot...I can think of no higher praise!!!!

Just a lovely video and kudos for mentoring the Young Eagles - getting your ticket is a very special and personal experience, and one you never forget no matter how many hours you have as the Pilot in Command, or what aircraft you are flying. We have to encourage a new generation to experience what we have experienced, and to keep general aviation alive and well

I have to share this video on Facebook. I just read an article that was very bitter toward Ford (grumpy) and comments about why is he an aviation legend. Preceding Coke commercial is a bit long, but so what? Seeing Ford get misty eyed talking about meeting his legends and getting kids interested in flying is well worth it.

That's nice I can definitely relate I've been flying since I was 16 but I don't see what makes Harrison Ford a legend of aviation.
Was it perhaps the fact That he came within 80' of hitting up fully loaded Boeing 737 when he landed his plane on a taxiway that's pretty legendary isn't it?

Until you're a pilot landing on an airfield you've never landed on with lots of air traffic around, then you need to STFU really. The ignorance of people like you astounds me. And yes I am also a licensed pilot in 2 different countries. So yes I do know what I am talking about..

    • @b.atwater3904

Mistakes in communication with towers do happen.
Those guys talk really fast and it's often hard to understand clearly.
I ask to repeat for clarification, just to be sure and write it down on the knee board.
      Besides; No one is perfect.

    • @420van01
      @420van01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@b.atwater3904 Ford was accidentally lined up for the runway as the tower saw it, but actually the parallel taxiway was right there beside it. From the angle of the tower they could tell where his was landing, or else they'd of warned him.
Ford was tired and he was new to this airport. All of this is human factors and any good pilot might make this error.
      Ford a great pilot IMHO.
And yes I am pilot in 2 countries as well.

I really wish that Hollywood would make a movie about Helicopter pilots. But for it to be a great movie they would have to follow some rules that most would agrre would make it a better movie.
#1. NO CGI computer crap. ( unless you keep it to a bear minimum . . . Like Top Gun )
#2. Dont put Huey sound effects on a Jet Ranger ( use the actual aircraft filmed sounds )
#3. Make it realistic ( remember James Bond " Tomorrow never dies " with the AS-350 chopping up the market with blades . . . WTF )
