  • Want to learn how to make friends like Bobby Axelrod? Find out in this video.
Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) has made a lot of enemies throughout Billions but he has also made a lot of allies as well. His most notable enemies being Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon). Season 4 of Billions is the focus of this video because it is the season of friends and enemies and how quickly alliances can shift. There are numerous examples in Billions that tie into The 48 Laws of Power, Game Theory, Negotiation, and other methods of strategy. In this video, we are going to take a look at how Bobby Axelrod uses these skills to make allies and the ever-changing relationship between him and Chuck Rhoades. Let me know down in the comments if you think I should make a video on season 5 of Billions as well.

48 Laws of power (Robert Greene) discussed in this video:
Law 2: Never put too much trust in friends, learn how to use enemies. Be wary of friends-they will betray you more quickly, for they are easily aroused to envy. They also become spoiled and tyrannical. But hire a former enemy and he will be more loyal than a friend because he has more to prove.
Law 8: Make Other People Come to you Use Bait If Necessary. “When you force the other person to act, you are the one in control. It is always better to make your opponent come to you, abandoning his own plans in the process.”
Law 11: Learn to keep People Dependent on you. “The ultimate power is the power to get people to do as you wish. When you can do this without having to force people or hurt them, when they willingly grant you what you desire, then your power is untouchable. The best way to achieve this position is to create a relationship of dependence.”

Great lessons. I love Billions. It was hard having to wait so long for the rest of Season 5. And yes I’ve been betrayed at work. I think most people have. But lessons learned the hard way are indelibly stamped in my mind. So watching the powerful characters in Billions deal with what circumstances they’re dealt allows me to learn as well. Unlike a lot of shows Billions is one in which I feel smarter after taking it in.

@bob rossomondo totally agree, Billions is the type of show that is very intricate and complex with not only he strategy aspect but the economics and stock market aspect as well. It's the type of show that highly intelligent people can learn from.

About trading favors, what if the other party is not willing to repay the favor?

If they don't see value in reciprocity then they might not be worth the effort or they didn't see your favor as valuable

Bobby then destroys that kind of disloyalty.

Very informative video. I once turned an enemy into a friend. This half Thai kid that was always on my campus, tried to steal my chicks, now he’s my crypto investing consultant!

Ah yes, reminds me of an ancient Chinese proverb. The story of the Thai crypto investor.

Yes this is probably true in a lot of business environments. However its Machiavellin. Would take a true sociopath to operate like this.
