Clear smog got rid of stat changes, burns made its defense hold up, and its special defense was incredible. Made it to Pokemon showdown's no.1 spot in ranked for about a week. Was a fun set.
It’s not just their speed, it’s their lack of boosting moves and good moves. Magmortar gets strong moves, but not moves with the coverage it needs(energy ball, scald, earth power, calm mind, or even nasty plot); however, it’s strength at least allows to actually be somewhat useful in wall breaking or dealing decent damage. I’m surprised Magmortar isn’t considered a “good” Pokémon. I’ve always thought it was pretty good. I mean, it has the same Special Attack as threats like Hydreigon and Zapdos. It also has good moves, things like Fire Blast, Solar Beam, Thunderbolt, Psychic, and Focus Blast. Lastly, it has something that most Special Attackers don’t have: a priority move. Even though it is physical, Mach Punch can certainly catch a lot of foes off guard. So yeah, even though it isn’t the best, Magmortar has always been a great Pokémon in my book.
Pure Fire typing is one thing, weak to EQ and SR are really holding it back. Speed is another thing I believe. Even as an attacker you need either fast speed or enough bulk so that common moves cannot easly kill you. Magmortar's biggest strength would be good power with wide coverage, but its good power is not good enough, meaning even with super effective coverage it cannot get enough KO. Having no good boosting moves and not a damage boosting ability further limits its power.
Lsrrr Would giving it the sheer force ability, as well as moves like: calm mind, nasty plot, scald, energy ball, earth power, aura sphere, flash cannon, moon blast, etc. help it?
Magmoter Problems need to be addressed - Bad Typing. Pure Fire isn't the worst in the world but its not awesome either. Weak to Earthquake, Stealth Rock, and Water Moves is bad - Slow. Its base speed is mediocre so it will likely get knocked out fast before getting a chance to nuke an opponent - Weak Defenses . Its bulk won't let it survive much apart from its resistances Arceus Fire is banned for this reason because its fast, bulky and has an expansive movepool. Magmorter is outclassed by Heatran, Infernape, and sometimes even Emboar. Faster, better bulk, better typing and more utility.
Magmar is based on a Karura, a bird demon that breaths fire. Then add in that its Japanese name is boober and has a beak, so it might be mixed with ducks/boobies. It also helps that Electabuzz is based on Thunder Onis to reaffirm their connection
In case you're still wondering, it's probably based in part on a blue-footed booby, as indicated by its Japanese name, "Boober." I don't see the resemblance, though.
@@nathancurnutt8074 Well for the record it was freaking amaizing in Gen 1, after that... well I think he had some sets that made it shine in low tiers sometimes.

I remember I once made a dumb set to counter Baton Pass teams in gen 8. Magmortar was part of it, it had: - Belly Drum - Flame Charge - Earthquake - (I don't remember this one)
There is one bird who has been cursed since its inception. It has sat in the UU Ban List for every generation it has been in, the only Pokemon ever to be like this. So... How GOOD was Staraptor ACTUALLY?
@@voidfields5065 Well it does have some nice toys like natural access to Ground Coverage in Drill Run(by level up no less) And with access to focus energy in gen 7 and its Hidden Ability Sniper, Focus Energy+Sniper Works pretty well it just lacks an actually usable stab move with a boosted crit rate... (It does get Sky attack but the move is just bad...) Now if GF gave Drill Peck a boosted crit rate(currently it has no added effects) and perhaps Slash (even if slash is a bit too weak to the point where like all other slash variants it is envious of Leafblade's +20 power buff) Without that Guaranteed Crit it is kinda lackluster nowadays as 90(Atk)/100(Spd) offenses are its only really usable stats. It is a lot better off than other Pokemon were its just heavily outclassed and crushed by Power Creep...

@@drefiv3375 We would still like an in depth episode about it regardless of how it did. I personally would like to see how it stacked up compares to other mons.
How good was Roserade actually? I have a lot of nostalgia for this dude, i remember even running a gimmicky technician set with Leaf Storm/Hidden Power/Spikes to beef up it’s hidden power damage against whatever your team was weak against. Worked well in any weather (flexing the Hidden Power between Ground/Ice/Fire/fighting depending on what your team needed), helps provide momentum with spikes, good against all the weath setters (depending on Hidden Power and last move in the case of Ninetales).
Magmortar isnt exactly frail. It has above average special bulk and paried with an assault vest it turns into a sufficient tank. Its defense is average but hindered by its defensive typing. Whats weird though is it learns barrier (wtf?) Another niche is that it can boost its own speed thanks to access to flame charge backed by a decent attack that isnt completely rendered useless by a modest nature as long as ivs are existant. Couple that with its extremely good special attacking capabilities and you have a decent sweeper It also has acess to belly drum which can always catch somebody offguard couple that with his good attack and access to a priority move, flame charge and high BP coverage moves he is really hard to counter
For what it's worth, I once came up with ideas for Mega Evolutions for Magmortar and Electivire. Magmortar would've been Fire/Psychic, have Desolate Land, and most of the stat points would've been dumped on the special side (175 Special Attack/110 Special Defense/98 Speed), while Electivire would've been Electric/Fighting and have most of its stat points dumped on the physical side (163 Attack/107 Defense/125 Speed). Electivire's ability was a fan-made one that I created to summon a similarly fan-made weather condition that would boost Electric types in a slightly better way than Rain Dance. But wait! There's more! Those of you who think Electivire and Magmortar are part of a trio might be glad to know I also came up with a Mega Jynx once, that would've been Ice/Dark, have base 165 SpAtk/145 SpDef, and Snow Warning. That might be a downgrade from base Jynx, though...
Magmar, Electabuzz and Jynx were also meant to be representatives of the legendary bird trio: fire, electric and ice. But much like brother Electabuzz, Magmar loses some speed upon evolving into Magmortar in exchange for a greater amount of firepower whilst still having the same weaknesses as both Magby and Magmar.

Magmorter is outclassed by Heatran, Infernape, and sometimes even Emboar. Faster, better bulk, better typing and more utility.
It was ok at the lower tier at least. But it definitely need alot of boost. At least it wasn't as bad as Electivire.
Yeah lets go with Persion one of my favorite Cat Pokemon!
Excellent! I want Persian as well! Just keep upvoting comments asking for it and we shall get it eventually 🐱😸👍!
How good was LORD HELIX actually? Let's start the OG fossil train
Why didn't Magmortor get a fire ver of. Motor drive
Cause that'd be too op.
(not really... But still good)
Bird Jesus next pls
HUGO Rodrigues good idea your smart

False Swipe Gaming: Moltres and Charizard don’t get destroyed by Dugtrio.
Me: What if Dugtrio has Rock Slide?
that needed high prediction cause one wrong play could lose you a mon whereas mol and char switch out without much loss
Continue the gen1/gen4 trend with "how good are Lickitung/ Lickilicki actually"
how GOOD was Persian Actually?
Bad. It was bad.
FOOK YES
Yippee! I want Persian as well! Go #KittySquad 😺!
@@nathancurnutt8074 Well for the record it was freaking amaizing in Gen 1, after that... well I think he had some sets that made it shine in low tiers sometimes.
@@Bendyrulz I get your point as it would be nice to see a Pokemon that would be great overall, but people can ask for whatever Pokemon they wish to be next whether they suck or not. Persian might not even get next week since it is Patreon Pick, though I still hope we can get it in November. With that being said hopefully you and I both get the Pokemon we want :-)!
How GOOD was Persian ACTUALLY?
Yes for Persian 🐱😸👍!
I remember I once made a dumb set to counter Baton Pass teams in gen 8. Magmortar was part of it, it had:
- Belly Drum
- Flame Charge
- Earthquake
- (I don't remember this one)
This video should be renamed to "How OKAY were Magmar and Magmortar ACTUALLY?"
How good was Jynx actually?
How GOOD was Persian actually?
Whenever I managed to get a Magmortar, I always named it Arm Cannons.
Magmortar is one of my favorite Pokemons of all time.
How GOOD was Jynx ACTUALLY?!? Let’s finish this Gen 1 Trio!
TheAerialAcer no infernape must be next
How good were roselia and roserade ACTUALLY?
maybe after the patreon pick (hopefully)
"Thicc fat Grumpig sits on it", uh, okay
There is one bird who has been cursed since its inception. It has sat in the UU Ban List for every generation it has been in, the only Pokemon ever to be like this.
So... How GOOD was Staraptor ACTUALLY?
How GOOD were Piloswine and Mamoswine ACTUALLY?
How MEDIOCRE was fearow ACTUALLY?
GOD AWFUL is what you are looking for hahaha
@@voidfields5065 Well it does have some nice toys like natural access to Ground Coverage in Drill Run(by level up no less)
And with access to focus energy in gen 7 and its Hidden Ability Sniper, Focus Energy+Sniper Works pretty well it just lacks an actually usable stab move with a boosted crit rate... (It does get Sky attack but the move is just bad...)
Now if GF gave Drill Peck a boosted crit rate(currently it has no added effects) and perhaps Slash (even if slash is a bit too weak to the point where like all other slash variants it is envious of Leafblade's +20 power buff)
Without that Guaranteed Crit it is kinda lackluster nowadays as 90(Atk)/100(Spd) offenses are its only really usable stats. It is a lot better off than other Pokemon were its just heavily outclassed and crushed by Power Creep...
Tbh, fearow is one of my all time favorite pokemon, and i hate how pidgeot got a mega evolution, while the rest of the original normal/flying trio (fearow and dodrio) didn't
red yoshi yeah that sucks, I can’t stand that hideous, fat-chicken of a Pokémon. How does it get a mega but Fearow doesn’t?!
red yoshi i mean, except for being good Gen 2's and 3's UU, its just bad
I would give Magmortar Sheer Force and Agility. It would hit insanely hard, and could pose a threat to both defence and offence
In x and y my magmortar helped me win online tournament matches. He was a beast
Don't be like Nintendo and leave jynx in the dark. HOW GOOD WAS JYNX !!!!
How GOOD was Persian ACTUALLY?!
Go #KittySquad 🐱😸👍!
How good was the second-hand of Giovanni? Persian next?
The Top Cat/ Team Rocket Mascot shall soon come 🐱😸👍!
If they gave this thing a mega it should gain another typing such as ground or steel. It should also be given a signature move like heatmor did.
Skool Wifi What if it got Energy Ball or Scald?
Magmar is in my top 3 favorite fire types , the top 3 always move around alot so I don't have a set order for them
Okay, now can we finally find out how good Persian was actually? The speed-crit king of gen 1 needs some love. Just ignore the Alolan form though...
Hopefully we get it in November unless the Patreons ask for it... Until then we got to keep at it until we get Persian 🐱🐱🐱!
Rip magmortar. I think we need to find out how good Persian actually was now.
Hey if you still want Persian to be next, could you comment on the next video around 12:00 p.m. (the time when the next video usually uploads)? That is if you want Persian of course as it is your decision to make in what Pokemon you ask for, but if you happen to be interested in Persian than it will help us out. If not I understand and respect your choice and hope you get the Pokemon you wish to have soon! Hope you have a great week :-)👍!
*So How good was Latias actually*
NOW!!!!!
How *GOOD* was *Persian* ACTUALLY? #KittySquad 😺!
That's the Spirit! We just got to keep at it! We are gaining publicity at least 😸👍!
Its bad, except gen 1 where it crits alot There
@Dani el Dani Hoping we get it as well, if not we keep going 😺!
@@jaidencarvalho1761 True we are getting popularity 😺!
@@drefiv3375 We would still like an in depth episode about it regardless of how it did. I personally would like to see how it stacked up compares to other mons.
Jynx is the forgotten sister in the "elementary punches" trio of RBY. We need that!
The neglected third member of this once Special Attacking Trio needs some love. How Good was Jynx Actually
How good was Persian Actually?
How good were YANMA AND/OR YANMEGA ACTUALLY?
Can you guys help me out?
Maybe after the patreon pick (hopefully)
6:58 I guess they never miss huh
How good was Roserade actually? I have a lot of nostalgia for this dude, i remember even running a gimmicky technician set with Leaf Storm/Hidden Power/Spikes to beef up it’s hidden power damage against whatever your team was weak against. Worked well in any weather (flexing the Hidden Power between Ground/Ice/Fire/fighting depending on what your team needed), helps provide momentum with spikes, good against all the weath setters (depending on Hidden Power and last move in the case of Ninetales).
How good was infernape actually PLEASE???????!!!!!!
Magmortar isnt exactly frail. It has above average special bulk and paried with an assault vest it turns into a sufficient tank. Its defense is average but hindered by its defensive typing. Whats weird though is it learns barrier (wtf?)
Another niche is that it can boost its own speed thanks to access to flame charge backed by a decent attack that isnt completely rendered useless by a modest nature as long as ivs are existant. Couple that with its extremely good special attacking capabilities and you have a decent sweeper
It also has acess to belly drum which can always catch somebody offguard couple that with his good attack and access to a priority move, flame charge and high BP coverage moves he is really hard to counter
Hp doesnt increase with megas
How good was aggron?
maybe after the patreon pick (hopefully)
How good was stantler actually?
Stanler mmmm always gave it shadow ball and stomp and it just destroyed everything lul but then again idk about the competitive scene
How GOOD was Scyther ACTUALLY
OR
How GOOD was Pinsir ACTUALLY
Scizor already done
@@marcocortes3279 Sizor was done but Scyther was excluded "because their roles are so distinct"or whatever so no Scyther has not been covered sadly
@@marcocortes3279 Scizor was, but Scyther wasn't covered in that video - they said they would do a video for Scyther later on.
Magmar and magmorter is more of a story tool like if you need a fire type on the team but you can't find one.
How GOOD was Piloswine/Mamoswine ACTUALLY?
Let's keep the Gen 4 evo's going!!!!
The heck! how did I never know that swinub was gen 2? Thanks for enlightening me!

Yaaasssssss !!

#KittySquad 😺!
Yes I support Persian

Magmar, Electabuzz and Jynx were also meant to be representatives of the legendary bird trio: fire, electric and ice. But much like brother Electabuzz, Magmar loses some speed upon evolving into Magmortar in exchange for a greater amount of firepower whilst still having the same weaknesses as both Magby and Magmar.
Ducks have bills, not beaks. Honestly, I don't know how much information I can trust on this channel anymore because of that...
How good was jynx?
I'm sorry, but when I look at the Gen 2 Magmar sprite, I instinctively say "Noot Noot!"
How GOOD was SPIRIT TOMB ACTUALLY ?
Here’s a plug for the metal dinosaur who plants trees- Aggron!!
