Great topic Pavel. I personally don't like riding without bindings but when I'm riding on the road and amongst traffic, I never wear my heel straps and my toe straps are loose enough that I can get out of them if I need to.
I've tried both. For maximum control, use bindings. However, I prefer no bindings so I can bail and initiate my fall. But I like to dance and jump around on my board, so there's that lol Also, when I take a fall with bindings, I take a bigger hit. Without the binding during a crash and high-speed wobble, I can slide off, roll, foot brake, or bail. I have options to prevent a straight SMACK into the pavement when riding at 40+mph without bindings lol
Great material, thank you for putting it together. One thing to add: bindings lock you in just one fixed posture (snowboarding posture) and make it impossible to put the front foot facing forward (I ride this way most of the time)
I know the bindings could be a pain to adjust, undo and redo, but the width of your diy boards and their crazy power makes them a necessity. Thank you for this video, Pavel. It is the best explanation of why bindings are often needed. I am looking forward to the England vs US match on Friday, but without much hope of US picking up a point, let alone 3:(
For off road use - tracks/trails/mtb tracks etc 100% toe & heel straps. Makes committing to hard turns/ Berms etc so much more comfortable cause I can throw much more of my body weight around... plus on several occasions while thrashing down a trail I've come across broken tree stumps or large exposed tree roots... without bindings it would have been a bail or board damage where as with them, you just jump the obstacle on basic instinct/reaction. Also, like you mentioned it controls your falls more keeping your legs in a secure position rather than twisting ankles etc. However, road riding I fold my heel straps over the top and roll with just toes, semi loose too.. you never know when you may need to jump off due to idiots in cars or members of public who walk with eyes closed!
I use snowboard bindings. I tried quite a few different mountainboard bindings with and without heel straps but I found I couldn't carve hard enough on the toe side.
@@PavelGarmas I use a pair of leather army boots. Tall enough to be higher than the highbacks on the bindings and are very comfy, now they have a pair of Remind insoles in them.
Hi Pavel. Great video, answer all my question. And Thank you for making all the video. Everything I know about eskate including making battery pack. Was from watching your video. Great work. BTW love you test board. Was thinking of building another board. Can you share the link to buy the deck?
Awesome mate! Thank you very much for a lovely comment. here is the link to the deck and it is on sale right now so grab it while sale is on. He got two types - Regular and stiff. I am using the regular one at the moment and it is very nice. Regards. rammboards.com/mtbdecks

When ever I’ll go over a bump my front foot slides on the grip tape and I have to readjust. It’s very scary when that happens at high speeds also. I’m considering getting binding with your video convincing me but I still can’t diside since I’m getting newer and better grip tape. What would be your call?
Very good point mate and many people , including me , had the same feeling. However, and it comes from my unfortunate experience, bailing at speed does do damage to your knees and hip joint... i did run off the board at 30 mph , I was meant to tuck and roll but there was a car coming at me so I ran....my knee needs surgery now. Its only my opinion though...just shearing my thoughts and supporting tests.
Well there is danger to fall from any board regardless of the bindings or not . Fear is good in moderation...it will keep you safe. I think you just need to try it. It feels strange at the beginning but you get used to the benefits really fast.
@@PavelGarmas I have fallen this month at 40km/h (wobble) , no injury but if y do that with a board glue on my feet I don't think it would be the same.
@@maitredanceshow1275 ahhh i see... glad you are ok. I think it's easier to control wobbles with bindings on but yeh you are right, for speed runs and asphalt is better with no bindings.

Thanks mate! Loosing up the the trucks for lower speed riding in the city is not a vad idea mate.

I do adjust the bindings so that my ftont foot does face firward a bit more. Not as you described ... just 10-15 degrees more.

question: How do you install the bindings like that without the screws penetrating the deck? So clean that way.

really good point about "all or nothing" comment. I hadn't considered the consequences.

Try doing glass frit instead of conventional grip tape... got video on my channel
Full bindings will give you the best control.
I just can't get my head round not being able to bail!

If I use bindings and get more turning power, does this mean I could tighten up my trucks a little and help prevent speed wobbles?
Definitely!
Correct!
what brand of bindings are those?
MBS
MBS 😀
You gotta try the tommiboiesk8 rachet bindings!
Never heard of them... thanks mate, i will check them out.
They're OK. I tried them, as well as the S2s and the MBS bindings are still ultimately the most comfortable and the most effective.

I fear to fall with that.
