i did not listen to this entire sermon as i found it extremely condemning towards those of us who SUFFER with this profound agony. i am convinced that my 'bipolar' is the result of an extremely abusive and negligent upbringing. i do believe that suffering from severe trauma in our formative years can cause damage to our brains, that only godly love and care can heal. without some godly love and care the damage will remain. i know that my health (mental or otherwise) is vastly improved when i have available to me loving and accepting friends, Godly counsel and constructive activities to partake in. also, a peaceful environment with experiences of Gods awesome creation is also of great value in the healing of bipolar states. i am so saddened by this man's prognosis (which equals nothing other than prejudice and judgement and condemnation) of a condition which he truly has no experience of. how on God's green earth does he consider himself qualified to speak on such an issue? the suffering of the bipolar afflicted is immense, and it is UNGODLY of him to increase this suffering amongst us by insinuating that we are less Christian than he himself. it is proven and accepted, and in my own case experiential, that light intensity, diet, exercise, environment, company and activity have an enormous effect upon bipolar symptoms. this strongly suggests to me that bipolar is massively influenced by chemical balance or imbalance in the brain. we are not all 'sinners' who are reaping what we sow. we are not merely 'double minded'. scripture and biblical counsel are of infinite value to all, whether bipolar or not. but bipolar cannot necessarily be healed by biblical lifestyles, any more than cancer can necessarily be healed this way. it is an affliction like any other affliction. it brings immense suffering and should be understood by the christian community as being such. a christian should be loved and accepted no matter what their health, and they should be encouraged in maintaining a godly walk with the Lord. 'sermons' such as this serve only to promote prejudice and ungodly judgements upon us. it is NOT man's job to judge in this manner. does this 'pastor' have any real and plausible way in which he can justify his assertions?? a man of God is to speak God's truth, NOT assert his own meagre understanding and proclaim it as truth.

Forgiveness of sins is so healing.. depression is not something one can remove With willpower... medicin is a Big part of getting better.. judgement is not a Way to get better.. therapy is only Working in light of unconditional love and full acceptance of the depressed person. I am bp, a christian, and a therapist. While I love that you dig to understand this in the spiritual area, which I also believe this is a spiritual thing, I believe that you are fundamentally wrong in your stance and approach in trying to bring people to healing. In fact I think what you are saying is very dangerous, and if someone is looking for hope in healing your leading them to a very dangerous place. I believe many individual in the bible displayed BP including David, whom God calls a man after his own heart. I mean seriously read the book of Psalms. Now I dont think that all you say is wrong. As I totally agree that one can not heal a spiritual issues without spiritual healing. But the question I have is; does bp need a spiritual healing or does the bp person need to gain a spiritual understand of how/who God created them to be. BP people are some of the most enlightened people one will meet. When I learned to turn my condition over to God and understood that "I am fearfully and wonderfully made" I learned to ask God what he was trying to tell me through my cycles. Double mindedness is not bp! But I encourage you to consider that BPs are engaging a type of spiritual warfare. BPs see the world differently "eyes to see" and what we see is sometimes very overwhelming. Some of us pull a "Jonah" we hear or see what God is telling us and have difficult accepting that we are capable of doing it. It took me 10+ years of seeing, hearing, and seeking, and all this as a Christian. Think for a sec what Jonah experienced in the belly of that Great Fish... Yes BPs need to plug in Spiritually, no they are no more morally deficient than you are "all have sinned a fallen short of the glory of God!" You have the right idea but you are preaching the wrong message. My brother in Christ, please remember that as a teacher your testimony is accounted for. Maybe your not seeing it, and I feel that you mean well, but your passing a judgement and not preaching a message of reconciliation. This is like shutting up the door of Heaven and stealing hope from people who have not understood the Jonah or David experience they are having that Society has labeled BP. Please re-explore scripture, and consider you message before someone is seriously spiritually injured. I pray the you be filled with the holy spirit and wisdom and revelation and that Lord uses your hands to help people with mental health illnesses engaged in spiritual warfare find Christ and answer their callings! Amen

Sir you need to repent. Don't you know that mft is a doctrine of the Nicolaitans, men who twist the scriptures as you are doing. Gregory Bateson (Lucis Trust), Milton Erickson, Carl Rogers, are known spiritists. Hear the word of the Lord, "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you (Deuteronomy 18:10-12)."

The Bible leaves very little room for excuses unless you are completely spirituality blind which is rare. I think depression (not BPD)is hereditary because of influence and situation just as much as it would ever be because of passed genes.

The problem with most teaching on bipolar is it comes from people who don’t have it so there is no way they know what they are talking about. My dad’s dad committed suicide because of bipolar fits. My dad was hospitalized in the early 60s due to bipolar violent behavior. I was diagnosed bipolar at age 44 after many years on ineffective medications. Once I started lithium, my life radically improved! And I have been growing in the knowledge of whom I am in Christ ever since. Every person who says a person with bipolar shouldn’t need medication to improve their quality of life, I dare you not to take any more Tylenol, or antacids, or Motrin, or any medications prescribed by your doctor ever again. Of course medication is not the entire remedy. As with any illness, the patient must listen to God about improvements He desires to make in their heart, mind and life. Relationship with God doesn’t end when we take necessary meds. In fact, for the person with bipolar, medications that settle the mind can actually be the beginning of a whole new level of intimacy with God, as it was for me. So, from a person living with bipolar for over 30 years and on proper meds for over 15 years, if you or someone who you know loves you noticed extreme moods swings and other symptoms of bipolar in yourself, first pray and ask God to guide you to the help you need. Then don’t be afraid to go to a good doctor for professional help. Don’t be afraid or ashamed of the truth about yourself. Bipolar doesn’t mean you are a monster. It only means your brain needs a little bit of help processing electrical impulses, no different from the heart needing help or the pancreas needing help or any other organ needing help. Remember that God loves you just the way you are and is ready, willing and able to help you be all that He wants you to be and will use every available resource to help you, even a little medication for your brain if needed. You may not even need medication; counseling may be enough to help get you on an even track. But you won’t know until you see a doctor. Seeing a doctor is easy
compared to living in the dark on a quaking roller coaster never knowing when you are going soar too high or crash land. Ask God to give you the courage you need to take the first step. He’s already there waiting for you. He will carry you through your journey. Trust Him.

A person who does not have BP, in my opinion, is unqualified to attempt to teach anything about it. I'm so sick and tired of ppl giving thier own ideas and formulas and judgements upon the person who has it. Please do not tell me I am a double minded person. A double minded person is one who CHOOSES to flip flop from serving God and or not serving God. A B P person has no CHOICE in the mood they wake up to every morning and that has nothing to do with my steadfastness in my Lord. and may I add, it is the uninformed who place another burden on the ones who suffer from it. None of us need to be made to feel like we are less spiritual due to our condition. I'm sorry. I don't need to sound so ruff but I have been a christian sinse my early 20s, have served the Lord in many capacities over the last 40 yrs of my life and devolved BP 10 yrs ago. has my live fir God changed? no. Am I being double minded about Jesus? NO. just please stop trying to label bi polor as a spiritual condition. thank u

Renae Jones I was diagnosed with Bipolar II at age 25. I left the pharmaceutical route and surrendered to God at the age of 40. My decision was based on the truths taught in this message.
I understand your point and it may be truth to you. However this teaching is truth to me. I live it out daily.
To the point suggesting one must actually be living in a certain condition or a diagnosis in order to identify or help another through teaching.....I most certainly disagree with that. If that were the case many teachers (Christian and non) would be also considered false and misleading.
But I do in fact appreciate your point and empathize with your condition. I certainly appreciate your comment.
I think we can both agree we can only speak for our experiences as a matter of fact.
May the Lord bless you on your journey :)

Amen, Renae. Please see my above reply to Ilene's post. The Great Physician is as much at work in our lives as any other Christian's life. Like I said, please read my response to Ilene's post above this. (Just a thought, but are obese people considered double-minded because of their genetic disposition to being overweight? Are they considered spiritually needy and not in tune to God's word in their daily life. There are many people who are overweight, whose metabolisms are slower because that body type is how their family is built. No one points a finger at them saying they are double-minded, but they have a harder time staying trim and healthy because of their genetic makeup. Mental illness has been around for centuries, bipolar was a diagnosis of many famous people who came before us. It is an illness like any other illness: cancer, lyme disease, heart disease, MS, auto-immune disorders, diabetes. But nobody, points a finger at these people and accuses them of being double-minded. No one blames them for the way their body malfunctions or is not perfect. Only those who are mentally ill have to bear the burden of the way the ignorant, uneducated view them. So many of them are productive members of our society, and you would never know that they suffer with any kind of illness at all especially if they are Christian and give it all to God who sees them through the rough times. All people go through rough times, financially, healthwise, family relationships, etc., but if they surrender it to Jesus and leave it to him, those rough times are made smoother with the proper love, support, and understanding from those around them. (Christian brothers and sisters pray and support each other through these times. Bipolar disorder has a genetic component, as does cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Why label bipolar people with this ill-founded spiritual diagnosis? Thanks, Renae for your clarity on this subject. I am a Christian too and we know that all things work together for those who love the Lord.

I do not know who this man is nor what his credentials are but I suffer from rapid cycling bipolar I disorder with hallucinations and extreme paranoia. I am also a professional motivational speaker on the subject who travels all over speaking on the issue and I also write on the issue. I have spent my life first learning to live with this illness, and secondly trying to spend my life helping others. I make a portion of my living devoted to this subject. That said, and I do not want to question this mans heart or intentions, but when it comes to his knowledge on the subject it is EXTREMELY lacking. It is alarming how off on the subject he is in some ways and how he glosses over things. For one thing, he states that scientist do not know where bipolar disorder comes from. While no cure has been found for this debilitating illness his statement is completely inaccurate and glosses over a whole wealth of scientific information such as brain scans for instance. Also, his definition of what separates bipolar I and bipolar II is extremely lacking. Bipolar I represents a break with reality. Bipolar I disorder is the only form of bipolar disorder with full blown manic episodes. With bipolar II you have hypomania. These are just simply a couple of areas whereby he gloss over things to skip to his point. While there is no direct wording from him that we can avoid medication it is certainly implied by him that if we just live good and healthy lives with God that we can avoid the pitfalls associated with bipolar disorder. For instance he speaks of the "mental disciplines of judgement". Things like this seem to indicate that if we simply turn to God that all will be ok. He speaks about what we need to do as fathers and how we need to instill things in our child's mind but I seriously doubt that he has ANY experience with the mind of a child who suffers from bipolar disorder. I seriously doubt that he has ever experience a situation with himself or his child whereby he has gone to the toolbox of the brain, only to find that toolbox completely empty. Indeed his information on precisely when bipolar disorder affects an individual is out of date and inaccurate. I have no idea why this man thinks that he is qualified to speak upon the subject. I share his thoughts that we need God in our lives and I know that the treatment of bipolar disorder needs to be multi-faceted. Medication MUST be taken. Period! But yes, indeed we must also have an organized mind as much as possible and we get there not only through medication, but through counseling, support groups, love from family and friends and guess what? For me, I believe that ALL of those things come from God, including the medication. I think this man needs to speak of topics that he has more knowledge and understanding of.

There was so much good content in here, but overall it broke my heart. The vast majority of what was presented is not applicable to mental illness, and it's clear he has no understanding of what bipolar disorder is. He's right - spiritual problems require spiritual answers, and certainly bipolar can cause issues that can't be addressed by medication. But science can show that the bipolar brain has chemical and structural differences than the non-bipolar brain. It is a physical issue. And to call it a character issue or imply it can be solved through discipline just pours fuel on the shame that so many Christians with bipolar already live with. What an absolutely heartbreaking travesty of the gospel.

This preacher is on point. And I’m commenting from the perspective of a metaphysician. I read the Bible from an esoteric perspective & he is 💯. I’m not dismissing that bipolar is real issue but all issues really come SOUL issues. They come from unresolved trauma within the soul. And this lack of resolution is passed down via genetics. That’s why these mental disorders are passed down because it’s in the soul which is another word for the mind.

From the beginning of December 2023, I am now being treated for Recurrent Depressive Disorder with Cluster B personality traits (Borderline). I liked your message about managing our mind with serious efforts. I will put all my heart, all my soul, all my strength to manage my thoughts to manage my mind; to be free from this bondage of mental disorder and walk in the path of Lord Jesus Christ to serve God my Father and enter His salvation. I had to stop listening to this clip because whether I am struggling with depression or am having an ok day my relationship with Jesus holds firm. My spirit is not double minded. I have a chemical imbalance. Another reason I stopped listening was because you stated that bipolar two is not as severe. Believe me it is. It is just different than bipolar one. Last year I came out of a fifteen year depression. It was horrible. I could not hear or feel God during this time but I knew He was faithful. I had several mixed episodes during this fifteen year period. The only way I can explain a mixed episode is to say that it is depression fast forward with incredible force. Mixed episodes are truly hellish. I sit here a full year after coming out of that fifteen year depression and I am crazy about my Savior. Jesus rocks my world. I still definitely suffer from this disease but hey that’s life. And God promised to be with us in the hills and valleys of life. Whatever life hands to us, trusting in God is a decision, a commitment, a covenant. He walks with me in my illness.

  • @JimiSurvivor

To start with the term "double-minded" is di-psychos (double souled) It means that your mind (and resulting emotions) are not firmly fixed on a single object. Rather the person believes one moment but then allows himself to be distracted by what is going on. Then he changes his position. In context, the person fails to hold fast to his faith in Christ. This is not about involuntary emotional states. If it were then whenever you have a change in moods because you are sick or tired you would immediately be in unbelief but that is not the way it works. States of mind that are involuntary are just temptations. They do not take you out of the care and love of Christ. The, "double-minded," on the other hand, does let go of his faith. Therefore his problem is moral not emotional. This scripture is not speaking of a man diseased in the brain but assumes relatively normal functioning of the organism. The Bible says nothing about his body or brain being unwell. The human brain, being fallen, does not always work properly. For instance, people with brain trauma or stroke often act emotional whereas they did not before the incident. Are they also "double minded?" Any part of the brain can malfunction. Neuroimaging has shown clearly characteristic neurological dysfunction in people with BD. You can actually see how pre-frontal cortex failure allows emotions to unduly influence the brain EVEN WHEN THEY ARE NOT EXPERIENCING A MOOD SWING. Of course, there is a danger of psychologizing moral and spiritual issues but that will not be helped by misusing scripture and tacitly denying man's physical nature.

The healing comes thru meditation of the scriptures. The word is a living thing as stated in John 1:1 it says in the beginning was God and the word was with God and the word is God. Jump down to verse 14, it says the word became flesh and dwelt among men. Who is this referring to? Jesus. He is the physical manifestation of God. So if healing comes through Jesus, he does heal miraculously then when we study..learn and meditate in the bible (the word) we are healing our spirit and soul, where our wounds and trauma need to be healed. Pills will not and cannot heal a broken soul or spirit. Brokeness has happened in the spirit and or soul before the mind is affected. Long story short, just meditate on scripture if that's all you know how to do. Read it day and night, healing will come. Through reading it you learn how to pray, who Jesus was and is. The more you take in the more you heal. Speaking from experience.

Being truly bipolar has nothing to do with the fact if you are a Christian or not and has nothing to do with demons or that you do not have enough faith in God. It is a illness that you do not choose to have. It's just like having Cancer. I'm sure there are sometimes many that are misdiagnosed and It has to do with spiritual issues. The church sometimes does not understand that. I have been a Christian for over 40 years. May God forgive the churches that are involved in this act of judgement.

Bipolar does not “swing” in minutes. Manic episodes last 4+ days and usually take a few days or weeks to ramp up. Depression is 2+ weeks of low mood low energy state.
Also. Mania is more often euphoric joy and racing thoughts than it is irritability, but it can include irritability, sometimes to the exclusion of the euphoria.

Thanks for your feedback on bi polar. I was diagnosed Type 11 bi polar at the age of 51 years. I believe that it is our spiritual well being that affects us mentally. We need to be honest with ourselves. A lot of folks will have to dig into their hearts to get sound mind/heart. Personally I have been sexually abused as a child and verbally abused in my marriages. A lot of times I have double mindness....I don't know how to make decisions for myself and set healthy boundaries a lot of times...I am learning. I know that repressed bitterness brings on depression. Forgiveness will free a lot of us......I am totally open up to have healing from God.....I suffer from a lot of fears recently... Please keep me in your prayers. Please note that anger and fears are not mental illnesses but a spiritual issue. I have not experienced bi polar depression but mood swings and I questioned my diagnoses.....it could be from menopause... Thank you. Amen!!!

Accountability partner, great friends and family ....
If you are not a Christian then you don't care about the Bible. I get it. What he says about double heartedness and double-minded mess and unresolved issues is PIVOTAL in all counseling, for every condition. Un forgiveness or bad self image or any alcohol or drugs..... If I were to approach my doctor and discuss these issues in relation to my bipolar disorder i would most likely end up on section 2 (here in the UK that would result in me being hospitalised against my will for anything up to 28 days). As a type one sufferer, I am acutely aware of the fact that, in symptomatic terms, religious delusion comes at the very top of the list. This kind of judgemental claptrap is at best unhelpful and at it's worst, potentionally lifethreatening: it is yet more prosperity gospel nonsense which blames the sufferer for their condition. Being bipolar is not a factor of any fault of character, else the whole of humanity would be diagnosable. We all make dreadful mistakes in many areas of our lives and most of us experience tremendous grief and trauma or other threats to our wellbeing at some point. How we cope with life's trials is no measure of character, it's about grace.

    • @eaglexbriteach9439

There are many types of mental illness put together that should not be. Many who make mistakes in their lives cause undue stress on their emotions and alcohol and drug abuse then breaks our bodies systems. Our fault.
But many are born with imbalances and a harder life.
We can't lump them together. Every sect of Christianity has their gifts and beliefs. Can't lump them together. Many suffer from delusions but many are real visionaries. But not if your church or heathen friend don't believe it right? Cause your friends or church is the smartest in the WHOLE world.
Grace and peace and love to all made in God's image. Life is hard. May we all spread love

I have been mentally unwell, for 6 years now, first it was psychosis, then schizophrenia and now bipolar. Its been a struggle, mentally, physically, and spiritually sometimes I want to give up. I must take my medication every night or I might end up back in hospital for a 3rd time. My current solution is Jesus, the word and the sacrament of penance, family, friends, and a support team. What I see, God showed me a glimpse of Heaven and a reality of Hell. What they see, chemical imbalance and medication needed. I have accepted medication, but am worried about the side effects it has on my brain and body. Sure, it may have been substance abuse, but I was 2 to 3 weeks sober in 2017. When I decided to pick up my bible, turn to God and search for Jesus to forgive and relieve me of my sinful addictions. Right now I am still on my journey to recovery, I am still alive, thank Jesus, I am not in the mental hospital, not in prison, haven't commited suicide, and not homeless. But there is still a lot of work to do to keep it that way especially for those with a religious or spiritual experience.

It is really important for the uninformed to understand that just as any major organ in the body can not function correctly or can suffer illness, the brain is no exception. Keep in mind that we live in a fallen world. And there will always be issues with the body until the day that we are glorified. If someone has a problem with their heart, do we have a right to judge them and say that they don't have enough Faith to be healed? The same is true of individuals that have issues in the brain. If anyone has been keeping up on the subject, there are football players and sports personalities who have died. And it was only after they died and their brains were autopsy that they were diagnosed with CTE. This was caused by repeated trauma to the head. And I can think of at least two individuals one in the wrestling world one in the football world who actually murdered somebody, and one even murdered his entire family. So are we saying that these people were demon possessed or that they needed to repent? When they clearly had a physiological proof that they had suffered extensive brain damage. Until you've walked in someone's shoes, I don't think it's fair to judge. I think individuals that have mental illness or any kind of illness for that matter need our Compassion, or sympathy, and especially our prayers. They do not need our judgment. And besides, the judgment-seat belongs to Jesus Christ Alone. Blessings!

Great information! I believe it is a spiritual problem. Someone very close to me has bipolar disorder and the root like the pastor mentioned is a mental agony of an unresolved issue that happened in his childhood. Now, as an adult, he is lacking genuine self-acceptance has done a lot of blame shifting and by not accepting God's forgiveness in his life he had caused so much damage to people around him. As a summary of the Pastor's perspective, we need to sanctify our mind, use our mind to think, meditate and settle matters. Have a personal relationship with God by praying, reading the Bible, worshiping and meditating on his word. There is nothing impossible for God if you allow him to help you!

i really like a lot of what you say. i think that watching what you put into your soul and trying to organize your mind can help a great deal with bi polar, and i believe through christ all things are possible, but this actually is a disease. your right no one really knows what causes it im hoping a lot of it is spiritual. although i can tell you that medication helps a great deal and depression and mania are very real. i can certainly tell you that the highs and lows are largely uncontrollable and i cant believe what i was thinking at the time. perception is altered during these highs or lows. you say double-mindedness but i can honestly say it alters perception and the thinking process. medically they have shown that there is a biological process that takes place so the reaction in the brain is proven they just dont know how its caused maybe it is caused from sprituality or lack there of. all i know is some of the thoughts i have when im at extreme lows or extreme highs is in neither one of my two minds...its the thinking process that can get me there.

    Apostle Paul's message of wisdom...
1When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters,a I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan.b 2For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.
3I came to you in weakness-timid and trembling.
4And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. 5I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.
6Yet when I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world or to the rulers of this world, who are soon forgotten.
7No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of Godc-his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began.
8But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord.9That is what the Scriptures mean when they say,
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
    and no mind has imagined
    what God has prepared
    for those who love him.”d
10Bute it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.
11No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.
12And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.
13When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.f
14But people who aren’t spiritualg can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.
15Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. 16For,
“Who can know the LORD’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to teach him?”h
But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
-1 Corinthians chapter 2 (New living translation)

Me too. It's spiritual Warfare and I think for some it can be at the least aided if not cured by prayer and fasting just like addiction and depression. It can be harder for some than others but it's hard for all to fight in the spiritual realm. Especially when many Christians fail to recognise the significance placed on spiritual Warfare(which I believe literally changed DNA and brain activity).

Thank you for your boldness in speaking love and truth. As a Christian Psychologist I do think a lot of people want the easy fix of medication instead of learning to manage their moods. With that said there are times when I do suggest someone temporarily get on a anti depressive or anti anxiety medication so they are better able to learn some new tools. And then of course there are others that have suffered trauma and may need longer medication and psychotherapy.

Bipolar disorder is the result of family history of mental illness and childhood abuse and/or neglect. A large amount of people stigmatize mental disorders because they affect the mind and not the body. If someone has cancer or diabetes, or something along those lines, many people will view it as a genuine disorder that needs treatment with medication. No stigma is attached. But once the brain has an issue, some people will view it as demonic or see it as something to be ashamed of. Bipolar disorder is not due to being a nonbeliever or an evildoer. It is due to chemical changes in the brain, a difficult upbringing, and genetics. You can heal from it over time but it takes years of rest and taking care of yourself in all areas of life. You need a strict diet, physical exercise, and need to work on healing your mind by managing stress and emotions. God can help but its up to the person to take the necessary steps to get better.

I can relate a lot. I've found personally I needed to humble myself more. It took some big slip ups to get it into my head. This is all for God's glory and not ours. Romans 8:28 assures us that God can use BPD for our good but this is for the good of others as well. Share your testimony and experience with others mario. I've had plenty of reasons to be depressed in my life and be bipolar but I thank God I feel he has only given me a glimpse but protected me because it's not in his plan for my life. I think this is more of a spiritual battle than many of the people with BPD on these comments want to believe. Don't suppress the truth people because of your stubbornness like I have. I still struggle with double mindedness and as a result I struggle with addiction and obedience. But just like addiction being a moral issue of idolatry, we are left without excuse. Take every thought captive and submit it to Christ before taking action. ( Not wanting to be a hipocrite because I struggle with this but obligated to tell what I believe lines up with scripture.) The Bible is clear that in terms of salvation this is a spiritual battle and not flesh (chemicals count they are physical). BPD won't send anyone to hell, but an unrepentent heart will. Check yourself to make sure you are born again. Do you have the fruits of the spirit? I don't think the bible says BPD is an excuse for lacking the fruits of the spirit that prove we are born again. This is to anyone who reads and not Mario

I’m Bipolar...change your diet and ditch the prescriptions which are synthetic and provide zero nutrients, only masks symptoms and doesn’t cure root cause(money making business for conventional Doctors)! GMO and Unnatural Foods like sugar, processed foods, gluten etc. triggers things to go off balance in your gut (which tells your brain how to react) and causes us to become mentally ill. I’ve noticed when I eat right, I never have a Bipolar episode. The very minute I eat something processed/unnatural, i get anxiety, body aches, headaches, mental disturbances, mood swings, stomach aches etc. Unfortunately we’re ALL mentally and physically ill thanks to the horrible foods these days. I’m not going to say much more, but look up the big issue people have with the company named “Monsanto which was bought by the company Bayer” and you’ll have all your answers, plus more!

The negative feedback on this video is something. I could not find where this video said or even implied someone to, "Get off your meds,"as some of the below posts seem to indicate. How many lawsuits on quacks for psychiatrists or doctors over prescribing meds for bi polar have occurred? Or suicide because of the meds? There is room (referring to the treatment of bi-polar), for the message on this video. If being on any medication allows one to adhere to what this video says, how would that hurt you? This video empowers anyone with bi-polar with spiritual guidance that should be included in ones Wellness Plan for treatment. It's not an either /or issue nor is it touted as such. Frankly, those touting that this condition isnt referred to specifically in the Bible, really make me worry, as I wouldn't want a condition that God has never seen or heard of before the medical establishment decided to put a name on it. It would comfort me to have scriptural references that assisted me in handling a condition I have. There is nothing judgmental about this video. It's arrogance to think bi polar or any other human condition wasn't discovered until our medical establishment put a name on it. As far as not having credibility unless you have bi-polar, that is very unsound thinking. I will bet your doctors that prescribe your meds and make money off your illness also don't have bi-polar but you will listen to them and give them God like credibility. No balance in that. Let the doctors help me treat my flesh, and let God help me treat my spirit. Maybe eventually my spirit will become so strong my body responds. Hmmm

You need to listen again, Bradley - because you totally missed his point! He is absolutely right - if you are not right spiritually, no amount of medicine is going to help you! Many people with mental illness negate the fact that living a good and moral life and taking responsibility for their actions is still something each person is responsible for doing - making good choices daily will help manage people with bipolar disorder (I know, because I am bipolar)!

The argument that a non-expert should not preach about a medical disorder has several flaws:
    1. Non-experts may lack the necessary knowledge and authority but preachers have the freedom to discuss a wide range of topics, including medical disorders, as part of their ministry.
    2. While preachers may not be medical experts, they can offer valuable spiritual insights and emotional support to those dealing with medical conditions. Their perspective can complement or supplement medical advice by addressing the holistic needs of individuals.
    3. Open discussions about medical disorders can actually help reduce stigma and promote understanding. Instead of asking the preacher to stop preaching, one must appreciate the openness to discuss such issues so the stigma can be reduced.
This is like two people talking about the nutritional benefits of a recipe, one being a nutritionist and the other not. One day they decided to talk about the nutritional benefit of certain food. Another friend who isn’t a nutritionist tells them they shouldn’t talk about nutrition because they’re not an expert.
Thats what it sounds like when the preacher is being asked not to preach.

There was no scriptural support for what he was saying. He fed the stigma by saying: bipolar is a moral issue, don't take your meds, everyone is a little bipolar, etc. While I appreciate his prayer and I do want everyone to be of sound heart and mind, I think it is irresponsible to encourage people to believe any of the above. Bipolar disorder is a real physical chemical disorder that requires medication for most people who suffer from it. If you are moody, you are not bipolar, and to say you are is insulting to those of us who suffer from the actual disorder and have had our lives interrupted or destroyed by it.

The foundation of your argument is faulty. Bipolar is not swinging of moods per se. It is two complete extreme moods. Somebody can either be depressed or elated, and not the two at a time. I was just wandering if you have suffered either. This teaching is misleading. You can only teach what you know. Unfortunately in this you are teaching something you don't know.

Palm Frond, you just totally contradicted yourself.

    • @322doug
      @322doug 7 ปีที่แล้ว

no, i agree with you Palm Frond. I am bi-polar, and I do appreciate the teacher here trying... but I am NOT double minded , at least NOT in the sense he is speaking of. The word double minded in the bible is the Greek word dipsuchos, meaning “a person with two minds or souls.” It’s interesting that this word appears only in the book of James (James 1:8; 4:8). Bible scholars conclude that James might have coined this word. To grasp the full meaning of this word, it is best to understand how it is used within its context.
James writes of the doubting person that he is “like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does” (James 1:6-8). A doubter is a double-minded person. Jesus had in mind such a person when He spoke of the one who tries to serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). As such, he is “unstable,” which comes from a Greek word meaning “unsteady, wavering, in both his character and feelings.”
I am NOT double minded in that way pastor, i have NO doubt to who CHRIST IS and to my salvation. I am struggling daily.... hourly with this torment , and frankly do not know if it is even possible for CHRIST to reside in the heart of a man with such mood swings of anger , rage . And it scares me quite a bit.

Either/Or should not be considered, but a balance of physical and spiritual health and medical and spiritual advice and treatment. No reasonable doctor is claiming that bipolar disorder is a character disorder or an excuse for poor behavior. Character development is a separate issue.
