Brilliant! The best human head sculpting tut. More please!
Nice to finaly see Jim making a tutorial for you. When I saw him in your author roster, I was hyped :)
Thanks mate! Well, it is already the second video by Jim: th-cam.com/video/sTOgDe3EmQ0/w-d-xo.html (And yes, we are super glad to have him on board) 😊 ~Zach
Ho! I missed this one, will definitely give it a look :)@@cgboost
Aw thanks man, appreciate that a lot! 😊

Man that pure ref looks really cool.
Had to save in my blender playlist. So sleepy. Very valuable tutorial. Thank you.
exactly what i needed! great timing :)
You're awesome, not just for your knowledge the way you share it is marvelous.
Awesome, very useful for beginners.
Even if I personally had to sculpt a woman the steps of sculpt, the method is great and simple! very useful , thank you for this video ! x)
Great tutorial. Yes please to taking this to the next level!
Amazing, Jim, I will try this when time allows!
'when time allows' - we feel you ! :)
Man this honestly helped me so much
this is the best video I've seen when it comes to sculpting, it has a nice pace and clear instructions for a beginner like me :)
Thank bro 🎉
Amazing! Thank you
Excited for the next sculpting courses coming out in cgboost, birthday teaser... 🤫
Really nice tutorial! Some things I'd like to add:
- The pie menu on A is a really nice alternative to using Ctrl I and Ctrl M. Very handy.
- If you turn off the Pinch slider on the Crease brush, it's the same as the Draw brush.
Thanks a lot for the input, Julien! 🙂
Had to agree im in dire need of this tutorial 😂
Very informative.
Really nice tutorial, good pace and clear instructions. I’m now doing the sculpting course, but I wouldn’t mind a new one for sculpting human beings with this level of detailed explanations 🎉
Very happy you enjoyed the video! As for your suggestion for a new course I think it is something that we will for sure consider. ~Jim
Thanks ! I was looking for a quality, up to date sculptiing tutorial!
omg, thanks. where can i get that reference picture from? it`s incredible
Thank you for this! At 5:07 when we have to smooth out the geometry, I'm getting more of a sculpting action. It doesn't appear to smooth and I'm definitely holding shift. Any ideas?
awesome, please make more realistic figure videos
Can we count on an extra human chapter for the sculpting course? 🤔
Thank you for blender head sculpt! Now can you make body sculpt lesson, pls?
hi, thankss for the comment! Who knows, we might do that in future :)
Thank you for this tutorial but I have a question on 4:54 when I press R I haven't this seeting of resolution, you have a another possibility on blender for this seeting ? please thank you 🙏 !
For it to work you have to be in sculpt mode and then you can press "R" to set the resolution size. This I believe is the standard setting as I didn't change it. Should work in both 3.6 and 4.0.
try shift r

Where can I find the references/resources for this tutorial?
Go to the resources page ( www.cgboost.com/resources/ ) and click on "TH-cam Tutorials & Project Files". Now here you will find a dropbox page, look for the folder "2023_11_sculpt_a_head_in_blender". Now inside this folder you will find all the relevant files. Hope this helps. ~Jim
Hi am am new to blender sculting i love your video very well explained, i want to ask how can one use this method to create a stylized cartoon head. Pls i nees your help if there is any tip or reference i shuold have while sculting a stylizes head or a course you could refer me to Thanks.
I suggest checking out Grant Abitt's tutorial for styized heads
@@Tosin226 thanks
I love your style 🤍 When I have the money I’ll buy the sculpting course. From your teachings I learn like a motherfucker!
how do you make the PureRef tab stay on top? whenever i click something in blender it hides the PureRef tab
It should stay on top by default, but I might be wrong, so if it's not staying on top it's probably just the mode not being set right. To fix this just right click the canvas (the pureref window) and go to "Mode", here just select the "Always On Top" mode and you should be golden! Hope that helped! ~Jim
@@cgboost i figured it out thanks for the great tutorial im so happy with my result. You got a sub and a like. Incredibly well explained :D
Had the same question! Thanks @cgboost!
lovve u will see it womorow now i should take a rest its nigth here
why not blender 4.0 just wanna ask
We recorded this quite a bit before the 4.0 release, luckily 4.0 didn't change anything related to this video (I think...). ~Jim
Please share your pureref file!
Hey, you can find the pureref file by going to the resources page ( www.cgboost.com/resources/ ). From here click on "TH-cam Tutorials & Project Files" and look for the folder "2023_11_sculpt_a_head_in_blender". Now inside this folder you will find all the relevant files from this video. Hope this helps. ~Jim
@@cgboost Wow this is gold! Thank you!
Couldnt you just start with an existing head and just alter it?
Yes, you can do that. But starting from scratch lets you learn the anatomy fundamentals and the real shapes of the head better (because you have to apply them yourself and not go with a readymade base model - which is of course faster and easier, but it misses the learning aspect - so it is rather advised for more experienced users)
Instructions unclear, sculpted a blaaacccccccck hhhhhhoooooooooollllllllllll...................................

I like your sculpts steffenhartman really amazing works
@@cgboost Love you, awesome content!
@@jostasizzi818 Very much appreciated, i hope i can crank out more projects and videos next year.
50 minutes? I couldn't do that in 50 year
We're sure that with some practice, you can totally do that in 50 minutes :)
@@cgboost I practice blender for 10 years , yet I'm still trying again and again to model the same car for 2 years now.
@@marcapouli7805 maybe try to change the subject :) Have you tried our beginners series?
~ Masha
@@cgboost I've tried many subjects . No I haven't tried your beginners series yet, I'm not a beginner I don't need to learn modifiers and shortcuts
@@marcapouli7805 so is that the car? Or finishing a project in general is a problem for you?
~ Masha
1 step: get gud
actually the 1st step is : just start sculpting! (and you'll get good as you go :))
I still suck and blame this on you, 5 months ago persun 😤
My face is less defined than his.
lil bro just copy pasted SpeedChar's tutorial...
Instructions are not clear, I ended up sculpting a donut
😆
i feel sorry for you
Holy crap spending 10 mins talking about a “reference window” is nasty work im out
Believe me, reference is really important if you want to get good sculpting results. You actually should spend way more than 10 minutes working with your reference. Patience is always needed when sculpting.
out of the subfeed with that thumbnail
Hello nice work. Can you please explain the brushes that you use in blender sculpting. I am a Zbrush user and want to transit to Blender sculpting. But I don't know which brushes in Blender that I used to use in Zbrush.
What an amazing tutorial! I'm still a beginner so I'm having to look a bunch of stuff up but this makes it so understandable and fun!!
Hi, it's hard to say it without seeing the file, please try to post it here in our community:community.cgboost.com/home
~ Masha
@cgboost oh I figured it out. Thank you for the reply though! I needed to hit alt-m I think to remove the mask. Regardless the video is amazing. Great teaching and fun yo learn!
