These are great tips! As someone who has moved 15 times lol, I would also add that when packing dishes and heavy platters, place them in the box vertically, not lying down flat. If you lay them down flat on each other you risk the ones on the bottom breaking from the weight of the others on top of them. All it takes is the truck going over one good sized bump in the road and you'll end up with more than a few cracked dishes.
Good hacks! As someone who has moved dozens of times myself, the first thing I do before a move is create a "Moving Kit" I take a plastic tote with a handle that I normally store craft supplies in and put all the supplies in it we will need during the moving process: tape, markers, box cutters, work gloves, a multitool, first aid kit, wet wipes, ziploc bags. For long distance moves, I've learned to include an extra phone charger, prescription medicines, granola bars, licenses and shot records for our pets. When we take apart furniture, all the parts go in the moving box labeled in their own zip bags.
If your things will be in storage for awhile, try to keep plastic off and out of your belongings, it holds in moisture..also dont pack w. newspaper for long term storage..its a whole new ball park if your storing your belongings. love this video, thanks for the help.
I roll my clothes and put them in a plastic bin. I can fit about 30 shirts/blouses in a bin and it takes up a LOT LESS space than a large wardrobe box full of clothes on hangers.
On boxes: absolutely right- DO NOT BUY BOXES...i get the best boxes at car auto spares shops.. they get parts in them... they are of the best quality and different sizes. They usually get thrown out back... i usually number my boxes according to the room with a list on the side : kitchen #1- cutlery ... Dining room #1 - glass vases etc ...this way i also know if any boxes are missing Moving is the ONLY OPPORTUNITY to get rid of items not needed/worn/used ... two birds with one stone
I cannot do the whole clothes in rubbish/garbage bags. Knew a girl at Uni whose clothes were chucked in the bins. It was university accomidation, so we luckily had cleaners who took the bins out. She left all the bin bags of clothes in the kitchen on cleaning day - her moving day - and the cleaners mistook them for rubbish. Her siblings and her ended up dumpster diving to get her clothes back. To be fair to them, there were several people who would be lazy enough to leave massive bags of rubbish in the kitchen on cleaning day.
Good tips, love the bin bags over hangers! However, plastic bags are so hard to find in my country and also no to store boxes and the tops are almost always cut off.Get boxes from someone who knows someone who just moved house. Go on Facebook or wherever and ask.
I used a lot of bubble wrap the last time I moved- genius idea on using already owned blankets and towels to pad items! If you put socks in shoes/ purses, it will take longer to find things when unpacking
Newbie to your channel! I can’t thank you enough for all the moving tips! I’m 58 and have had Multiple Sclerosis for 22 years. It’s much harder for me with this 3rd move due to my disability and your hacks are so helpful!!!
Yep! I agree @dominicroman3. KISS...Keep it simple sweetie? Label boxes by location...and categories if you are a maximalist...Donate or Bin. Kitchen ~ electrical, cooking, entertaining, crockery, glassware, etc.. Bin or Donate. Lounge ~ books, tv, lamps, remotes, etc.. Office ~ etc.. Bathroom. Donate or Bin. Bedroom 1,2,3+. Linen Press. Laundry. Bin or Donate. And so on... Underestimate how much you think you will need. Then do the bleeding obvious and Bin and Donate BEFORE you leave, And request the boxes be put where they will be unpacked when you or the removalist deliver them to the new place. Kitchen boxes in the kitchen. Bathroom box in the bathroom. And if you decluttered you will not have more boxes than storage space. Depending on my timeframe I can take three weeks to three months to pack and be settled in three days once I arrive. Of course I can take three weeks to three months to 'learn' how to operate in my new space. I know this works because one year I was given notice that a house was available to me just as I was given three week full time work And the removalist offered to move me on the 23rd...December...and I had family over for dinner on the 24th and the house was set up bar half a dozen boxes...and...my youngest's bedroom. And if I remember correctly, the Christmas tree was up too.
Labeling with sharpies is fine if you’re not worried about movers going through your things. As someone whose family had valuables stolen by movers, I will not label boxes with the names of the rooms they belong in or the contents.
These are great tips. I've moved a lot over the years too and my No. 1 tip, if you're moving right into your new place, is get your bed set up and made, then you can fall into it after a long, hard day of moving. My No. 2 tip, is put your kitchen essentials in one box, i.e., kettle, coffee maker, tea and coffee, couple of mugs and cutlery and don't forget your milk, cream, sugar if you use them. Hope your move goes smoothly Becky.
I have been in packaging field for last 5 years...and recently i just shifted my house to near by area and used good grade boxes and tape for maximum security of my house holds... but I was quite surprised with the quality of this particular tape and was very strong compared to normal tapes we find around. If you want to try, Checkout "MS98" tapes in amazon
Concerned about any tip that suggests reusing boxes from stores. In these pandemic days, not sure if that’s worth it. Even if it’s a box that held non-food items, who knows where it’s been. Like the tp roll hack!
TalkBeckyTalk thank you so much for this, I'm going though this too at the moment so it's like we do it together! Love your shirt and glittery nails! Can't wait for more house move and hacks!!! 😘
I'm moving 1.500 miles away by an airplane, driving takes 3 days and I can't stand that long road trip. So I decided to take just a luggage and my important stuff. I sold everything so I'll buy everything again from scratch. It's way cheaper, easier, faster and you get new suff if you move that far.
Yes! I've done this for 2 moves abroad, and it's definitely the way 😁 The shops are always open, so I just brought what was irreplaceable. I hope your move went well, and you're happy in your new place x
I’ve only moved once and it was from my parents house to the house my husband and I bought. I didn’t have much stuff at the time so it was an easy move. Now, 6 years later, we’re packing up our house so we can put it on the market. It’s so much harder when you accumulate more stuff. I’m ready for this process to be over!
The plastic bag trick is a must do! Especially for sheets sets, clothes, blankets, curtains because you can keep the while set together. And the hardware and screws in a storage bag too and make sure to secure it to what it goes to.
this is very, very, very helpful. I'm going to be moving in 8 months and excited about it because I've been looking forward to it since junior year in nigh school. now, I'm a senior in high school and ready to leave the nest.
I’ve moved houses 2 times and this week it’s gonna be the 3rd! Yay I’ve already seen my house in pictures but not face to face. I am soo grateful that I’m finally getting a bigger room with my sister!
Thank you.. I have given a friend some barely used makeup. I don't like to toss out stuff, because it seems wasteful, But I am more than happy to donate to friends, or a charity.. I love string on boxes, because it keeps tops on, and easy to hold on to.
I love the plates tip - I was getting frustrated & worried about whether they'd smash. It's a very small move/distance but things which are fragile can still break in small distance moves. I also have always left clothes in hangers and just tied/bagged them. Thanks for helping make moving less stressful for others.
Honestly, who peels the tape off of boxes? It literally takes 1 second to just use a box cutter/knife. If for whatever reason there isn't one available, you could even use a key, or the corner of a credit card/license/whatever. Just pull up slightly on one of the box flaps, enough to take the slack out of the tape, and then just pierce the tape wherever it is securing the flap you're holding by puncturing the middle of the seam. Within one or two tries, you should easily be able to open most boxes simply by strategically puncturing the tape in 3 spots, or even just 2 with luck or by practice. This is by far the easiest, lowtech method to open a box as you can literally use practically anything you have handy to poke a hole in the tape. (Note: this trick only works if the boxes is sealed with packaging tape; if the box is sealed with duct tape, you won't be able to break the tape clean just by puncturing it, so you would need something sharp to cut through it. However, it's not likely to come to that, because duct tape is not the ideal tape for cardboard boxes since it loses its adherence rather easily. It's very probable that the tape will peel off on its own, so you really don't need to worry about cutting it anyway.)
I just moved for the 31st time in my adult life today 🙄😪 so over it lol! To go with your first tip, I used all the plastic bags I've been saving (because I won't throw them out lol) as padding and they worked great! Edit: now I see you added that as tip 6 lmao!
Moving on the first of next month & I'm so glad I looked this up. I was just about to buy clear containers around $50ish. Not bad but the move is costing a lot already lol. Thanks for this!!
I’ve only moved a few times, the last time we moved I was 8, and as a child I wasn’t responsible. the house i’m in right now i moved into when i was 6 and i was at school, so next month would technically be my first move that i’m actually witnessing 😅
Paige Lou-Anne Justice hey I only just saw this lol it was very noisy I under up finishing my packing the day before it was super boring lol and I don’t unpack my stuff until about a month ago lol
Does anyone have any advice on the absolute best way to pack knick knacks such as small Angel figures, and candles? I'm very nervous about anything fragile.
Nicely done, some valuable tips..always used bath and dish towels to pack and always rolled not folded (from the military) ..good video, good job..hope your new residence will work out for you !
Sorry not sorry but I tried the roll method and my port didn't leave the house because it did my head in. I saw a youtube that confirmed that fold rather than roll was shown to pack more in a suitcase when travelling especially if you 'file' as recommended by Marie Kondo...my messy husband converted to filing his clothes when we travel because he can see everything at a glance. In my house, I 'file' everything I can.
skye moorhouse Oh, it’s when your parent(s) are in the military. I’m a military child, and because of it I move all the time. I’m 14 and I’ve moved 12 times. 😂
Kitchen or Bathroom organiztion maybe! It's always interesting to see how everyone else uses their space. Hope you are settling in well. I am so excited to see what you have in store for us to watch in the future! Cheers from Canada!

saaaaamee
peachy same, a house with three floors 😌
Sammmmeere
Me too!!
same i'm so excited and it's hopefully gonna be 3 floors :D
Better hack for string to tape- just fold under at the tip creating a flap to grap and peel
Good hacks! OMG the handles on boxes tip. I'm so gonna use this when I move!
Who else is nervously/excitedly watching this video!!! I move to Memphis Tennessee in two months😱😱
The trash bags for clothes one is the BEST. I've done it to go from dorm, to apartment, to back home and it saves SO much time to pack and unpack!
I roll my clothes and put them in a plastic bin. I can fit about 30 shirts/blouses in a bin and it takes up a LOT LESS space than a large wardrobe box full of clothes on hangers.

Omg the string under the packing tape is genius. Thank you!

We’re moving into our first house and I’m so nervous! I’m mainly overthinking packing, so content like this is super helpful!
With unwrapping boxes just use a retractable blade like they do in wearhouse
I always used to get boxes from supermarkets when I was younger but now it's like getting blood from a stone! They all just say they get taken away 🙁
Good tips, love the bin bags over hangers! However, plastic bags are so hard to find in my country and also no to store boxes and the tops are almost always cut off.Get boxes from someone who knows someone who just moved house. Go on Facebook or wherever and ask.
We just bought a house I'm so excited and I need to start packing I'm so happy!
Just fold the end of the tape on itself so it's like a pull tab. Just like when it's on the roll. You'll never lose the end of the roll again.
I use this daily as an electrician. Great tip.
Yes! I do this all the time. It's great for gifts too.
Or just cut the tape...like...with a box opener or something.....
Forget the string. Just fold the end if the tape at a 45° to leave a tab on the end for simple removal.
Works for me. And I do it when I store any tape. If only Sweetie would return the favour...hmmm!
that garbage bags on clothes was god level genious👍 #iapprove
Love the string under the tape hack 👌🏻
I used a lot of bubble wrap the last time I moved- genius idea on using already owned blankets and towels to pad items! If you put socks in shoes/ purses, it will take longer to find things when unpacking

Getting ready to move to a new house and I really appreciate this content. Good luck with your move.
Labeling with sharpie is much easier than carrying around several colors of stickers

I agree @dominicroman I agree I do my name and then where it is from so let's say my is lizzy so I would but lizzy's shelf decor it more effective
Labeling with sharpies is fine if you’re not worried about movers going through your things. As someone whose family had valuables stolen by movers, I will not label boxes with the names of the rooms they belong in or the contents.
the string hack is SO smart!

I'M SO EXCITED TO BE MOVING! What videos should I film in the new place? x
TalkBeckyTalk you should do a video of how your unpack and organise things ❤️❤️
Definitely! Such a good idea, what about a makeup collection video? x
TalkBeckyTalk yeah that's a great idea
maybe a house Tour or Tips how to get your Stuff organized or cozy?
TalkBeckyTalk thank you so much for this, I'm going though this too at the moment so it's like we do it together! Love your shirt and glittery nails! Can't wait for more house move and hacks!!! 😘
Great tips. My favourite was the one you saved for last (ie. the string). Keep up the good work !!!

Go to dollar general. I’m about to move states and I went into dollar general asked for boxes and they gave them to me!

My husband and I are moving out of state and it's the first time we are moving. Thank you for this awesome video
String under tape! Genius
This is highly informative. Thanks Ms.
This girl KNOWS what shes talking about!! Ive used all of these tips
You can also fold the ends of the tape when you build your boxes. Will keep your nails cute!!🥰
Great. 1 change though... instead of string on the tape just fold over a corner on the tape.
Load the truck by rooms. Then unload by room.
I’ve only moved a few times, the last time we moved I was 8, and as a child I wasn’t responsible. At 17, moving as a low income family, and a sudden move because of my landlord not taking care of the home the way Section 8 requires.. it’s very stressful. We just got the eviction letter and now I’ve begun to pack things. Hopefully we find a nice place. It’s just such a stressful day and everything is so scary. As someone with extreme depression and anxiety moving is so hard.
On my 19th move and I’m 22! Thanks for the helpful tips
This was a great video! So nicely done.
Thank you for smart inexpensive methods for moving! You also have a delightful, upbeat, personality, which generally missing in me when I move. this is an old video.. but it’s so helpful! i move temporarily every winter for 3 months for work. love these hacks!!!! lifesaver
I've got a feeling I've watched this before, but I've enjoyed it just as much the second time around!
We are on our 7th Army move, heading to Europe in a month! Good hacks, especially the bin bags for clothes. I'm going to do that before the movers come!
Kimberly Holt sorry were late but welcome to europe !
I'm about to move for the 56th time in my life (yes, I did say 56th. Don't ask) and have used most of the hacks you mention...but we always learn something new! I loved the empty toilet paper roll for necklaces! Brilliant! Thank you!
Hi! I count on this video. Thanks for sharing this. These moving and packing hacks are amazing.
If only I had seen this before I just moved! I can't wait to see how you make your house all cosy and gorgeous! So looking forward to this new chapter in your life! xx
This is how I know for sure my phone listens to my conversations lol we was talking about moving
I'm moving out in 2 months. Out of my dads house and moving in with my boyfriend once we are done with school. So it's pretty simple for me because all I need to pack is things in my room that I want lol. I can't wait though. I've lived in the same house my whole life, never moved. So I'm excited
Aww... That's really helpful vdo..tons of thanks from an indian(keralite) family moving from Ipswich to Redhill
Great ideas here Becky, thanks so much and wishing you all the best in your new home and on your new adventure.
Wow. 20 times?! I've only moved once in my life (from my parents house to my own house) and that was pretty easy because we didn't have much of anything to move. Now we have a whole house of furniture and moving that sounds really hard.
Amber Shafer I can only imagine this. I'm currently in move number 46!
Just did a major move and these are spot on!
Clever girl. Beauty and brains. Can't wait to see your new home. Thanks
Miss Beauty and Brains misspelled 'lounge' as 'longue'
Zane Wolf Except she wasn’t trying to spell ‘lounge’ though you fucking know it all. Google what a Chaise Longue is and then apologise for being a sarcastic little prick
Thank you for sharing this video! Once you group your clothes on hangers and tie with the garbage bag, where do you put them? Do the hangers have to go in a wardrobe box?
I haven't done this hack before but I'm going to. I would put gaffa tape or any tape really just around the tops of the coat hangers
These are terrific hacks. I'm not moving, but I know someone who is and could use these tips.
i love these hacks i watch your videos everyday you inspire me so much we are moving soon so i am DEFINITLY showing my mum this video
Brilliant!! Very thorough I loved it, thanks xx
Usually I'm not a fan of hacks videos but this video is actually really useful! I will bookmark it for next time I have to move :)
So glad this helped! What videos would you like from the new place? X
Also if u put just a small piece of paper under the tip of the tape if u dont have string it works too
This is about to be my 6th move and im only 13 hahaha but i love these hacks, thanks!
Haha same but like my 10th
the house i’m in right now i moved into when i was 6 and i was at school, so next month would technically be my first move that i’m actually witnessing 😅
these moving hacks are so helpful, thanks Becky!:)
I love the hanged clothes plastic bag hack 🥰 I have one day to pack everything on my own. Wish me luck tomorrow
also, if you don't want to use string you can fold an inc of the tape at the end to make it non sticky and easy to pull!
I’m moving house tomorow and I haven’t packed my room yet 😂
How'd ya go? 🤣
same omg i literally start moving at 6:00am and rn it's 12:50am and nothing is packed haha
Paige Lou-Anne Justice hey I only just saw this lol it was very noisy I under up finishing my packing the day before it was super boring lol and I don’t unpack my stuff until about a month ago lol
I'm moving to Tennessee from MS. For the first time, in super anxious because I haven't moved before,
Does anyone have any advice on the absolute best way to pack knick knacks such as small Angel figures, and candles? I'm very nervous about anything fragile.
BoxGiver has a bunch of free moving boxes
Nicely done, some valuable tips..always used bath and dish towels to pack and always rolled not folded (from the military) ..good video, good job..hope your new residence will work out for you !
@1:36 I am using that tip for the first time..... I love it 😍 it saves so much time!
Great moving hacks !! Sound hacks I would have never thought of but looks useful. Thanks for sharing them with us. Have a great day!!
You too lovely! What. Videos would you like from the new place? X
Use different colored rolls of duct tape to color code and seal boxes.
I know every one thinks rolling is. ether but you can stick the folded one like it better right
These are so good! Love the manicure saving and the picture taking tips!
So glad you enjoyed it! Are you moving anytime soon? X
No, but I just recently moved and definitely could have used these!
I’ve moved house about 6 times, and still can’t get it organized! Thanks for this video! May just film me packing and moving hehe
Best moving hacks by far!
Thank you, please, please more moving hacks videos!
