1. You can get free pre-divided boxes from the liquor store. 2. The last thing to put on your truck is your mattress and bed frame with a box of sheets. The first thing you do when you get to the new place is put your bed together and make it with sheets and blankets. At the end of the day you will be exhausted, the last thing you want to do is have to put your bed together before you can go to sleep!
All plates are to be packed up and down in the box and not flat because if the box is dropped your plates will break. Professional packed showed me....and today I have moved more than 10 times across the country. Have a book to write what's in the box with a number on box. Boxes are stollen when things are shown on boxes. With a number on box ...you know if a box is missing.
Additions: 1. Nice for people helping you move: Make sure there is toilet paper, hand soap and a hand towel in the bathroom at both places (Old & new) for everyone to use as well as water bottles in the fridge and granola bars at both. 2. Clean the new place before you move in if you can so you move into a clean, ready space. 3. Create a spreadsheet for yourself so you know what’s in each box
💜I hear ya! I'm feeling overwhelmed with the thought of the entire process. Lets focus on one room at a time, like she suggests. I'm purging as I pack! Definitely dont want to move 20yrs worth of things!🤦♀️ 💜🌼💜 I'll pray for you! 🤩🤗God bless you!
Tip: Put books in rolling suitcases. You’ll thank me later. My husband and I are buying are first house and are moving in 2 weeks! The last time I moved was almost 6 years ago, and it’s crazy how much stuff can pile up over the years. Thanks for the tips!
I disagree with washing everything before you move. In my experience everything gets dusty, dirty, everything is touched by different people, and spills happen along the way. It’s just inevitable. Everything will get dirty. Just wash afterwards. The double work is really not worth it.
I put sheets and towels etc. washe in a new garbage bag that goes in a box. It stays fresh and clean, and it's ready to go once the bed is put together.
We moved twice within 11 months. One thing I can recommend if you can is to place furniture first. Then take all boxes that are not essential and store them in basement or climate controlled garage. This way, you aren't sitting in a mountain of boxes and feeling stressed about how much there is to unpack before you can feel comfortable. Store the boxes grouped by room, and then unpack 1 room at a time. At the end of a long day, trying to relax among that much clutter will be tough. But, sitting down in your comfortable living room with all the boxes out of view makes it much easier mentally speaking.
Another tip, to pack your towels and linen in your landary baskets. Also if your moving a short distance just lay your clothes with the hangers on in the back of your car, and pillows blankets in trash bags rather than boxes are easier to move.
Lots if boxes & tape. You can always return boxes to Home Depot. Try to fill all your boxes. Lots if lots of bubble wrap. If you use newspaper you will have to wash your dishes and glasses when you are unpacking. It is essential to pack like your going away for w week to 2 weeks. Hire guys to fill your pods if that is the way your going. You should write what it is on the packing tape, this way you may be able to reuse that box for a while. Love your ideas. It has been 22 years since I moved. I furnished it and will be selling all furniture. Find a company to shred your personal paperwork before moving. I wish you had tips for garages.. 💚💚good luck in your new home
9 years... Longest I've ever lived in one place (I'm 41). But since I have moved a lot I have the best advice... Small boxes, lots of them. It is so much easier to stack smaller boxes and carry or carry one very heavy small box than this big, very hard to grasp boxes.
Pro tip! If you have lots of items and will keep them contained, DO NOT USE CARDBOARD BOXES. Buy large plastic containers. Cardboard boxes can be destroyed in floods, eaten by pests, or just eventually weaken/disintegrate in time. Use plastic containers instead, they're perfect and can be used over and over again! I moved a fair number of times in my life and the cardboard boxes were always annoying. Going to multiple different places and asking for boxes so many times becomes a hassle, so instead I just went to my depot and bought like 50 large containers, numbered them, listed the contents, and that shit went a lot smoother. Goodluck packing everyone! Preserve your sanity.
I looove what you said about getting rid of stuff befORe you move and also packing a room at a time!! We're moving and i was thinking "just get everything from here to there!" but didn't even think of what a ton of work that would be if there 1. was a bunch of stuff to goodwill and 2. everything was all mixed together in boxes. Thankyou! Glad i watched this
Moving next week to be closer to work and daughter. I have been packing for a couple of weeks now. I love the tip about packing one room at a time, and I've lived here 7 years. My rule - if I haven't touched something in 7 years, it gets pitched or donated.
Pack a first night box. Have it full of things you'll need the first night and morning like a shower curtain and soap, bedding, toilet paper, tooth brush, charger, medication, coffee pot, coffee, and cups, pet stuff, child stuff, pajamas and next day's cloths, etc. Then pack that in your car so you know where it is. Happy moving and sleeping!
We downsized from 1400 ft to 750 ft a year ago and we are in our 70's. So you can imagine all the purging we did on BOTH ends. Believe it or not we had over 100 boxes. It was an amazing feat. My best suggestion is to make sure the first thing you do when you get to the new place is to get your bed all set up and dressed. That way you have it ready so you can drop right into it when need be. Good luck. Can't wait to see your new home......
I'm moving in two weeks and thought I should revisit this one again! I have numbered all my boxes as I pack them and then in my bullet journal I am listing what is in each box. I put basic info on the box like bakeware or books and whether it's fragile or not. This is my 12th move and I've learned a lot on the way. Getting started with the packing a month or two ahead takes the pressure off near the end. I am also cleaning as I go so that I will just have one final wipe down of floors and bathroom to do. I plan on being finished all the packing 3 or 4 days before the actual move. This time I am definitely purging as I pack. I don't want to have to pack and unpack things I no longer want or need. I love the idea of the coloured tape on the boxes. I will zone my new place and have a colour for each zone. Great tip about the small and large box packing! I have done that this time and have small boxes for books and heavy things. Wish me luck!
I’ve moved 3 times in the last 5 years and am planning for our next move which is happening the day after Christmas! So, I definitely feel like an expert. We are hoping the next place is a keeper. We are downsizing and upgrading, so lots and lots of purging to fit into a smaller space. I start packing super early, a month early, otherwise I feel very overwhelmed. The plate and glasses boxes are worth the slight splurge. We also had boxes stolen the first time we moved and used moving helpers. They stole my husbands video games. So, the last two moves I started a system where instead of writing what’s in the box, I number the boxes and keep a list for myself of what is in each box. Then I just write on the top of the box what room it is going to.
Paper towels from the dollar tree makes packing easy! Also, if it's a local move give yourself time to move. Move slowly. Exactly a little bit each day!
Pack a room at a time and label/list all boxes with what’s in each box and for what room etc HELPS HEAPS and also do a first day box so a couple rolls of toilet paper towels and things that you will need for the first day only as you’ll be really tired so don’t want to be unpacking everything to find what you need
Pro tip on getting boxes from stores: ask them to set them aside for you before you go - most will. Otherwise we toss them in the baler and they get crushed to oblivion. I used to work for a large grocery store and we were always happy to do that!
I reuse plastic grocery bags for packing paper. Sometimes I forget my reusable bags or I don't bring enough when I go to the store so I end up with more than I want. I also reuse them as trash bags for my bathroom.
Great tips! The last time I moved was 6 months ago and I'm currently moving again because I just purchased my 1st home. I purge every 6 months or so because I hate clutter. What helps is that I keep my items in organization containers so I'm able to just load up the containers and just put them in boxes. I buy a roll of bubble wrap, packing tape and packing paper. I was lucky this time and was able to get boxes from a friend who just moved. I've been using the same moving company for years for international and domestic.
If you are using a moving service, rather than write the contents of each box on the box itself, number them and write the contents on a corresponding list of each box by number. Especially good for valuables that could go missing during a busy move. You can also get more detail this way, which helps if you're looking for a specific item. I used this method last time we moved three years ago when we had over 600 boxes. It was a lifesaver. Congrats on your new house! ~ Lisa
15 years! Moving from a big house into a tiny apartment. It's going to be a difficult and emotional move and your tips will make it easier. Thank you, Sharrah! Can't wait to see what you do withb your mom! 💜🌼💜🌼💜🌼💜God bless you and keep you!🙇♀️ Praying for you guys!
Another tip! Use totes/luggage instead of boxes especially if youre gonna be moving a lot(college or apartment) cause they’re reusable and you can store in them. And instead of buying paper to wrap dishes use old newspaper or ask for a few extra paper bags at the grocery store
I've moved multiple times over the past few years. We are in the process of building a house and we expected it to be done in August/September but it moved up to the end of June. So now I have to declutter, pack, and get everything ready way sooner than expected. I think your tips will make the process a lot smoother. I hope moving goes well for you!
UHaul has sets of boxes that they ship to your house; you pick apartment, 1-2 bedroom house, etc and they give you a nice mix. Of course most people will need to customize the list and that's easy to do when ordering. Includes boxes for books, china/glasses, and electronics.
I moved out last year, and will be moving to a new place in less than a week, i was so overwhelmed i didnt know where to start, this was really helpful for that transition and keeping my mind clear, thank you!!!
I love the purging tip. That is a must. I have moved TONS over the years. Military kid, wife, and we just moved last a year and a half ago. Yay for our first home! The decluttering really helped me. Also for some reason our wall clocks always break when we move. Always!!
i’m leaving my childhood home because my parents are going through a divorce and now it’s just my mom and i. i’m really nervous from moving from my house into a condo.
i’m in the EXACT same situation. i’ve lived in this house for my whole life and since my parents just got divorced, it’s way too big for just me and my mom. it’s really hard to leave behind all the good memories but i’m also relieved to leave behind the many bad memories.
All great tips. Really enjoyed the tip for dogs. Moved from large 3200 square foot home in 2003 to smaller 2600 square foot home. Sold this house June 16th and looking for a smaller house. Just starting to get organized, de-cluttering, purging and packing. Not looking forward to this process again but I'm looking forward to cleaning less and travelling more.
Thank you for all the wonderful tips Sharrah! I’m moving in 6 weeks and have been a little overwhelmed.. wasn’t really sure where to start. Feeling a little better about it now, I appreciate you!
My husband just got his first assignment in the Air Force! They only gave us 10 days notice before we needed to report to the base! We load the truck in 3 days! So nervous and anxious! But we’re gonna rock this out & be organised!
When asking for free boxes at the grocery stores/Costco/Walmart, ask specifically for apple boxes. They are very sturdy & have a spot for handles that makes them easy to carry. Plus they are a nice size, not too big so you can start packing them ahead of time & store them without taking up too much space. We started looking about a year before we bought our house so we bought plastic storage bins when they were on sale. Then when items would go on sale that we would need for the new house that we didn’t already have, we would purchase them & store them. Things like linens for the spare bedrooms (that we didn’t have in our apartment), towels & accessories for the guest bathroom etc... This saved us money in the long run because we bought on sale & we bought over a year instead of having to buy all at once when we moved in. I got really lucky, I found a designer queen comforter set on clearance originally $210 for only $54! You don’t have to buy everything all at once but most of the necessities we bought early & on sale. It gave us some breathing room when we moved in. We still have the plastic bins 12 years later. They hold all our seasonal stuff now. Some of the extras we sold at a yard sale.
My wife (then fiancé) and I moved into a house with roommates around this time last year and are currently renovating and moving into our first house. I love watching your videos. Their really helping me figure out what I want to do with the space.
The best moving boxes I ever got were McDonald's French Fry boxes. They were a good small/medium size, extra thick cardboard. I had to go daily to pick them up without fail so that they would save them for me. They didn't have a lot of extra space to store them, so it was daily or they would quit saving them.
My husband and I are getting ready to make our 7th move in 4 years(for both our jobs) and yes, it's as exhausting as it sounds, lol! I would suggest hitting the grocery store for a cooler(if you don't have one), healthier snacks/meals, a case of or a couple gallons of water and a bag of ice. Doing this has prevented me from wasting money on fast food or at convenience stores, and keeps the road trip moving with less stops. This way you can have a little extra money left over to tip your pro movers or buy your amateur movers(aka fam and buds) pizzas and drinks, lol! Good luck with the move! ♡
My husband and I have been married for three years and have lived in five houses altogether, and now we are packing up for our sixth. As someone who has learned some of these things the hard way, I appreciate these tips and will be using them to get through this move!
The last time I moved was exactly 3 years ago, and I'm moving again in 2 weeks. I've moved several times before, cross-country and all that, but I feel like it's a learning process each time. This time, I'm trying to make it as easy as possible. Very timely video for me!
I am moving and switching jobs this weekend. My anxiety is up the roof! Lol thanks for these tips, I’ve already decided that for my next and final move I will hire movers!
Last time I moved was end of May 2020, into my first solo apartment. I'm now in the process of moving back in with family to save money, and I'm currently in the declutter/prep stage. Thanks for the helpful tips!
Hi, we moved from a large 3bedroom house 2 years ago into our forever home, a small 2bedroom bungalow. Our children had both grown and flown. Oh my goodness. I needed this video back then, we still have boxes we haven’t unpacked in our loft, and in our summerhouse (that we haven’t been able to use yet). I so need to get sorted out, but it’s been so long now, and just the thought of it all makes me sad, because I did a big unboxing a few weeks ago, and threw away over 30 years of diary’s and holiday journals. At the time I was so happy to be rid of such a big heavy box, but soon after I felt so very sad, I intended to read all those books in old age to keep my mind active, and I’ve always written a lot each day, now all those memories have gone. So please don’t throw away until your 100% sure. I will get around to all the rest of it soon I hope.xxxxxx
Us cheap plastic wrap to wrap over cushioning, bubble wrap or paper and silverware also use paper towels between kitchen items and save and use in the coming months. Stack plates vertically!!! To avoid breaking.
That's the only moving video you will eveeeer need! thank you, that basically sintecized every youtube video I watched about moving in the past years, into one! Loved it!
I moved across the country this time last year into temporary housing. I am now moving tomorrow into a more permanent place that is 7 minutes away from my job. Super happy! Thanks for the tips
Aussie here! We use newspaper to pack things because you can get it from businesses once they're done with it, and family members. My partners currently getting their works old ones instead of them throwing it out :)
I moved almost 2 years ago in July and down sizing from a 3 bedroom to a 1 bedroom was no easy task. Thanks for all the great tips. Good luck with the move and best wishes for your new home 🏡 😍
Thank you for the tips. I have lived in dorms for the last four years, so I have "moved" a lot, but I will officially be moving from my parent's house in July to start my career.
Thank you SO much for this video. I'm in the process of moving to another apartment and it's easy to feel overwhelmed with this process. This help me develop a plan of action. Positive vibes ~
very useful tips. I like the idea of putting heavy items in small box and light items in a big box. smart idea. Thanks for sharing these ideas. keep em coming.
The last time I moved was 6 years ago and really don’t ever want to do it again but I’m sure we will sometime in the future. Hopefully a bigger house! Lol I love this video. Very helpful and I can’t wait to see your new house. Empty and then decorated! I’m excited for you!!
My "pro-tip" is to get fry boxes from McDonald's. They wrap their fries in plastic bags inside the cardboard boxes so when they are emptied and flattened - they are just as clean and dry as the ones you might want to purchase. Call the store and ask them to save you fry boxes over a weekend or a few days and then go and pick them up. Asking multiple McDonald's locations to save them & pickup on the same day might even give you all the boxes you need in one go (depending on how many you need and which days you ask - obviously weekends are better. Right now, they are giving away free fries after a Raptors game win so they are going through extra fry boxes if you're needing them for an upcoming move. Heather
I used very few boxes and instead invested in Rubbermaid storage containers. Best thing ever! They stack easily and can be used to store things I want to put away for later in the garage. The movers loved them as they were easy to grip and stack. No boxes to breakdown and toss.
For packing and storing bed linens, fold all the sheets and pillow cases of one set and store them in 1 pillow case. Saves space and all linen sets will be organized together.
I'm. Planning to move soon, and I've already declutttered and throw. Stuff out, what do you think abt using plastic bins!? I've set some aside for packing, I. Like the idea of painters paper
im moving in two days and my parents just told em about it as a shrprise. im really upset tho bc my boyfriend wont be able to walk me to my house. its a nice hiuse tho. i havent started packing yet 😔
Alicia lift with your legs, not your back! Lesson I’ve learned the hard way over the years and my husband is constantly reminding me. Basically, squat down and used your legs to lift, don’t bend over and pick up which stresses you lower back. Good luck!
We moved last July after 21 years in the same house! (some stuff is still in boxes) We moved into a new house & even tho we thought some things would work, they won't! Much love & prayers to you ❤️
We are packing a month ahead and we don’t even have a new place to move to yet but we have a ginormous amount of stuff to pack and sort out it is amazing how much stuff one couple living in a one bedroom flat can accumulate
Moving tomorrow, woot! What a timely video. I use my winter gear to wrap home decor. I also use the vacuum seal bags to store clothes and bedding. The thing I can't do is pack room by room, and I do have lots of boxes everywhere!!
About 10 years ago! Also a suggestion for packing plates is using a paper plate between each of them! Thanks for your excitement. Deb R.' Sugar Land, TX
In the process of moving now. Actually packing up a closet as I watch your video. The last time we moved was 10 years ago, so needless to say we a lot of stuff! Thanks for the heads up on offer up. I’ll be sure to check it out.
Empty wine boxes are great for packing glasses and vases. Also so glad i kept the box my wine glasses came in. For things i need immediately after i move or during i pack in a laundry basket and keep in the trunk of my car.
1. You can get free pre-divided boxes from the liquor store.
2. The last thing to put on your truck is your mattress and bed frame with a box of sheets. Tim Bredow GREAT tip! Thanks
As well as shower curtain, towels and shower supplies. Toilet paper, etc
Very good tips Tim !
Smart thinking!
Tim Bredow liquor store boxes are the best! I especially like them for books. They’re small and very sturdy.

Gisele Lafreniere are you military?
Awesome tips!!
Great tips thanks!
By up and down you mean instead of laying flat horizontally put them vertically?
Y'all females be cray cray yo.

Don’t forget a trash can, or at least a trash bag. And some folding lawn chairs or something for people to sit down
Point 1 is fantastic for me!
@@nilespeterclemens8328 All excellent comments, did the folding chair, need to setup the bin at new home
This is super helpful!! Also Scout is just the cutest 😍
Currently packing to move. Feeling wildly overwhelmed.

Nah Nope likewise!
I packing to move too. Same feeling

This is such a great tip, thank you! I have TONS of books and the first time I moved I used so many boxes for them all and they were so heavy.
You saved me! I am literally packing my books right now
Why didn't I think of that before!!! Thanks!
I did this & my books are not the same size & some of them bent and are now seemingly permanently curved. I put the books in small boxes now.
I disagree with washing everything before you move. In my experience everything gets dusty, dirty, everything is touched by different people, and spills happen along the way. It’s just inevitable. Everything will get dirty. Just wash afterwards. The double work is really not worth it.
m robble I like to put a plastic bag inside the box, that’s one way you can keep dust out. Later you can fold up the bags and use them for your trash.
m robble I wash everything after I move. But yeah getting ready to move and so overwhelmed already
@@irenepylostomos8554 great idea
Wash them then put them in the jumbo ziplock bags to keep them dry, clean & dust free! Problem solved.
I put sheets and towels etc. washe in a new garbage bag that goes in a box. It stays fresh and clean, and it's ready to go once the bed is put together.

Nikkie what moving company did you use?
Nikkie which moving company?
If you are using a moving service, rather than write the contents of each box on the box itself, number them and write the contents on a corresponding list of each box by number. Especially good for valuables that could go missing during a busy move. You can also get more detail this way, which helps if you're looking for a specific item. I used this method last time we moved three years ago when we had over 600 boxes. It was a lifesaver. Congrats on your new house! ~ Lisa
When you start packing before the house said yes:
San Diego is my favorite city! You guys must have enjoy living there
I used extra coffee filters inbetween my stacking cups and bowls etc
Thanks😊This is useful tips 😊
UHaul has sets of boxes that they ship to your house; you pick apartment, 1-2 bedroom house, etc and they give you a nice mix. Of course most people will need to customize the list and that's easy to do when ordering. Includes boxes for books, china/glasses, and electronics.
I’ve been living in my current home for two years and I’m putting an offer in on a house closer to my daughter’s school this week! 😊
Always!!
Great advice on going room by room. I used to go by category and that was HELL trying to unpack and decide where to put stuff in the new place.
i’m leaving my childhood home because my parents are going through a divorce and now it’s just my mom and i. i’m really nervous from moving from my house into a condo.
Hang in there Aubrie! Change feels weird and awkward but you will get used to it. Maybe you will meet some cool people in the new place.
Aubrie you will be fine. Divorce can be hard. Hoping that you and your mom find happiness in your new home. ❤️
How are you enjoying your new condo? Hope you are well
omg girl same but its me my mom and my brother
i’m in the EXACT same situation. i’ve lived in this house for my whole life and since my parents just got divorced, it’s way too big for just me and my mom. it’s really hard to leave behind all the good memories but i’m also relieved to leave behind the many bad memories.
I just moved into my new apartment with my boyfriend. I wish I saw this video before I moved because it was super helpful!
You can get boxes from the ABC store too and they're sturdy for breakable items.
*AHH! This is soo helpful!! I just adore you Sharrah!! So excited for you abd Tyler! 💖💖*
I am moving and switching jobs this weekend. My anxiety is up the roof! Lol thanks for these tips, I’ve already decided that for my next and final move I will hire movers!
I'll come pack for ya honey buns.
You think that now, but wait until you get a price quote. You’ll change your mind really fast!
Last time I moved was end of May 2020, into my first solo apartment. I'm now in the process of moving back in with family to save money, and I'm currently in the declutter/prep stage. Thanks for the helpful tips!
Thank you for these amazing tips! We are officially homeowners and so excited to start packing and moving! Congratulations! ❤️
I moved from Florida to Houston Texas 3 years ago and now we are moving in 2 months. I am so glad you made this video!!!
I am
now moving tomorrow into a more permanent place that is 7 minutes away from my job.
15 years we have been in our home! Moving in 3-6 months! Looking to pair down A LOT!!!!
Positive vibes ~
moved to Colorado from Los Angeles 6 months ago, best thing ever!
You can use your clothes as padding for fragile objects and fabric if you Are you sewing or you can use blankets as well
last moved 5 years ago but now moving again, i’ve already started packing up my room but thought it would be handy to know some tips :)
very useful tips. I like the idea of putting heavy items in small box and light items in a big box. smart idea. Thanks for sharing these ideas. keep em coming.
I cant wait to actually do these things as we move out. Your dog is so adorable!
The last time I moved was 6 years ago and really don’t ever want to do it again but I’m sure we will sometime in the future. Hopefully a bigger house! Lol I love this video. Very helpful and I can’t wait to see your new house. Empty and then decorated! I’m excited for you!!
THIS VIDEO CAME IN THE NICK OF TIME!
Heather
We last moved 3 years ago into our apartment but in 2 weeks time we will be moving in to our new house! This video was really helpful, thank you 🙏🏻 X
I'm moving from California to North Carolina in 67 days!! I'm so excited.
I used very few boxes and instead invested in Rubbermaid storage containers. Best thing ever! They stack easily and can be used to store things I want to put away for later in the garage. The movers loved them as they were easy to grip and stack. No boxes to breakdown and toss.
Moving into my first home right now!!! Thanks for this helpful video, and Congrats to you guys!
Omg! This is great! I’m moving mid May and I am struggling with my packing. I’ll have to re-watch your video
Your tips are pretty much on point. I believe things to tend to get lost/ or break while they are being transported?
So exciting! Can't wait to see the new place! And I love these tips. We've moved 3 times and it's SO. MUCH.WORK.
My husband and I are moving in about 2 weeks!! Yay! Super exciting!
The last time I moved was 3 years ago. Thanks for the helpful tips especially the color tape.
Great tips, thanks! Where is your couch from?..it looks soooo comfortable
I’m moving in like 14 days. I live on first floor apartment and moving to a house. I’m so nervous of the actual moving process like lifting and stuff.
Alicia:
Lucky, I’m moving from a house into a townhouse 😒, sorry I’m late but I hope moving was easy for you 💛
im moving in two days and my parents just told em about it as a shrprise. im really upset tho bc my boyfriend wont be able to walk me to my house. its a nice hiuse tho. i havent started packing yet 😔
Also a suggestion for packing plates is using a paper plate between each of them!
Thanks for your excitement.

Awesome! I’m in the middle of packing and have boxes going in 4 rooms. Chaotic and exhausting, so thank you for your organized tips!
I moved 5 years ago and am moving soon. Thank you for your tips, i think the color labling is a great idea.
I'm moving July 22nd! I'll be moving 4+hours away from where I currently live and I'll be changing jobs! Thank you!!! I needed this video!
We are (hopefully) moving in about a month! Put in our application today! Fingers crossed, and thank you for this helpful video!!
I moved 42 times and to 4 Countries but you with this video gave me new ideas ! You really did a good job! Thank you
