Conspiracy theory about Danaher and the high wrist in mma- this specific guillotine was meme fighter Cody Mackenzie’s only move but it was so effective that he got into the UFC with just this submission. On the season of TUF where Cody is on team GSP, GSP brought in Danaher to be the team jiu jitsu coach, and DDS would later iconically use this specific guillotine in competition. I’ve had a hard time tracking the lineage of the high wrist gilly because I know other people like Nate Diaz have used it since forever so I can’t verify that this is true, but I like to imagine that Danaher picked up this dim mak strangle from an Alaskan fish canner who once wore a literal pair of basketball shorts from Target (with the price tag still on) into the UFC octagon
I dont know how you got so manny likes but cody mackenzie locked his hands in a scpecific way, you can actually go watch it, this one is also a high wrist but as you see you NEVER lock your hands, you go for the elbow as nicky says; thats a huge difference since you trap the arm so its harder to escape, i remember gordon talking about this in his IG
this isn't what cody did. he did a guillotine with his hands locked together (if i remember correctly he used a gable grip) with his free arm underneath the choking arm. he then pushed his forearm upward to squeeze the neck instead of the traditional way of having your free arm above the choking arm and pulling .
I'm really glad nicky started to do these quick break down videos. I've been struggling with a few small details on this move and he hit all of my issues in a very technical methodical manner without over loading detail the details. Bravo Nicky! Keep up the awesome videos.
Great move, would be nice to see the follow up options when he rolls or jumps the other side (if it's not already over once the hands are placed of course)
It’s not the same as the Mckenzietine, I used to do this at my local gym in the late 90s because I just always focused how to smash the Carotid arteries and that was a good way to do it without the gi.
@@blackopstrololersif you’re referring to his guillotine against lyoto machida, that was a power guillotine not a high wrist, completely different. Pretty sure Gordon did both invent and popularise this variation
@@blackopstrololers lmao gonna assume you’re trolling but the difference in a high wrist that Gordon does is you control the arm like an arm in. Jones’s was nothing like this
Dual Escape is a clever way of saying ashi garami stalemate. Folkstyle wrestling is a single escape sport meaning top position is winning position in folkstyle wrestling. Dual Escape is submission grappling meaning you mount offense from either top or bottom, and in BJJ now we often see two engaged in ashi garami where they both fight from their sides. CJI nickname from Me , example: "Dual Escape , Athens 2026".
Good bit different than the Marcelotine. Marcelo did high elbow guillotines, and he’d keep his wrists down low (below their shoulder line) with none of the opponent’s arms inside his grip, and he’d lift his support elbow super high to block their shoulder and add pressure. Marcelo’s a guillotine master for sure, though.
There’s a difference, both are arm-out gillys but for the high elbow (marcellotine) you literally bring your elbow up high and frame on your opponents shoulder as you press their head down with your chest. The high wrist is closer to a front naked (ninja choke) but you don’t fig4 your arms - the high wrist has a decent history in MMA with Holloway and Nate Diaz deploying it a lot, and it was basically Cody Mackenzie’s only move lol
The highest level of trolling is to click on a B-Team video and immediately seeing a Gordon Ryan instructional ad.
😂
Who's that?

According to his wiki, McKenzie is a member of the "Fancy Pants Fight Team".
Was about to say the same. I’ve seen it from him aswell and been applying ever since

Probably a move Danaher stole to Marcelo as Craig always says 😂

5:17 - That setup was slick. It looks like Nicky went for an Anaconda and re adjusted to the high wrist
This is my favorite guillotine. Strangle power of high elbow, control of arm in.
Great way to put it. ❤
this is the second best high wrist guillotine technique video on TH-cam!

Thanks brother of Gordon Ryan!
Who's Gordon Ryan?
Who's Gordon Ryan? I never knew Nicky had a brother
⚔️Best guillotine there is! Can we get a vid on Nicky’s Anaconda Choke next?? 🐍
Im practicing this today,,shout out to Nicky
Funny, I JUST saw Gordon hit the exact move in his video just released lol. Good timing
Nicky is a better instructor than Danaher or Gordon. Much more concise.
Who's gordon
Gordon Ramsay, famous but controversial jiu Jitsu practitioner
I’m a big fan of the guillotine in no gi imma try to add this one to the repertoire
That's going to be so tight.
With the hand supporting the elbow.
Can he armlock you with the Arm Position?
Hard to keep a good man down - CJ
Its good to keep a hard man down - Also CJ

I believe Gordon Ryan was the first to really use this is competition. Haven't seen any else do this before him.
Jon Jones used it in the ufc way before Gordon my tummy Ryan

Why not just closing it like a mata leo instead of trying to reach the other elbow?
Looks like you fake, or attempt, the anaconda choke from there first often then switch to the high wrist guilly?
freddy looking big yo
Where’s Gundle

After CJI, we’re going to have one of the gayest richest grappler guys in the country. I wonder who it will be.

You definitely didn’t watch the video. And you read the title wrong. High elbow and high wrist are two different things.
