Wow! Layne was so young here-you can hear it in his voice. You can also hear that unmistakable sound that his voice had. He had such range, such control over his vocals. He was a very gifted and talented singer/musician and it's a shame things went the way they did for him. R.I.P.
Layne was 19. It was hair days. And he was great. Gotta start some where... we dated a bit and remained friends......It was high school... be nice...he was so nice, kind and would talk to every one....never heard a negative things said...
+cedarroseforrest: I LOVE to hear inside stories of those before they made it big. Only because I have a few of my own too, (but that's another day). Thank you for sharing something quite personal with a bunch of nobodies. Best of luck and God Bless You.
Im so glad this was posted i went to this door man confiscated my recorder got it back less batteries had extras but my quality of this show distorted. I was like 16 thought they were terrible. Got a pic and tape from someone a rehearsal or something with songs from next demo these few versions of queen rodeo. A couple cover songs. Sounds like Layne lot of taking but obviously recorded on boom box. Guy in forced entry shirt gave to me for 10.00 said was there demo was loading amp in van. I collected anything local so i bought. Says A N' C on j card but one side tape A N C other D. Lie/AC so no clue lol
Wow!!!!!!!!!!! This is AMAZING!!! I never heard these guys back in the day (mid 80's). but could totally see myself (and friends) jamming out to this right along with our Faster Pussycat and LA Guns!! =D
Omg Queen Of The Rodeo is awesome here!!! It's always been one of my favorite songs but I didn't realize it started way back!! That Layne Staley sure was talented... 💙
The only thing I have a problem with is that when Alice In Chains got famous and were a totally different entity, Layne would talk smack about the glam scene when it is exactly where he came from. Can't get anymore glam than this sound or the looks they sport on their Album cover (demo). GLAM METAL IS FUCKING AWESOME TOO.
Ya know, you can hear that voice and spirit in there. It is actually kinda rad to see a serious grunge (dislike that term, prefer dirty power soul) band have metal roots as opposed to punk.
I know we all have to start somewhere, but AIC did a better live version of Queen of the Rodeo than Layne started with. I'm not knocking Sleze, just as far as what we all knew Layne's vocal range was capable of, Sleze made the song rather tame, like the water-down version you play for your mother versus the version you REALLY get a kick out of. lol
I can say I was getting trashed and dancing on chairs to Faster Pussycat and LA Guns when this was happening!! LMAO!!! (Gotta admit it has a similar sound!) PS. It was at our weekly kegger party!
Holy fuck! The guitar is *awful* on "Queen of the Rodeo." Pollock is playing these hard-charging riffs and blazing solos on all the other songs, but a simple G-->E chord progression has him sounding like a Parkinson's patient? Goes to show you how some guitarists never master the basics.
@cameltooth1 yea, according to Everybody Loves Our Town by Mark Yarm. I just started reading it last night and will have it completed here in a few short hours. hahah :)
Not sure if they were joking or if Michael Monroe of Hanoi Rocks (if it was who they were referring to) Actually happened to be in the area & saw the show. I really don't know. Just a weird thought.
@Vagina Doctor They lived in Seattle but were a poodle haired glam band until grunge became a big thing. They were one of the earliest grunge bands on a major label, but people don't realize that the majors only started looking at the Pacific Northwest scene once it was already a huge regional trend that was predicted to blow up. AIC were trend-hoppers. While the local punk scene was inventing grunge in the mid 80s, AIC were still taking their cues from Poison. Definitely a good band though.
@Maru Frusciante AIC were good, but they were obviously rooted in 80s glam metal. It was super obvious on Facelift, with squealy whammy-bar solos and 80s metal guitar tone. I could always tell they had 80s metal leanings, but I was stil shocked when I read a book in the mid 90s that outed AIC as an ex hair band. This sounds silly now, but back in the grunge days, finding out a band was once hair metal was like finding out they were child pornographers or something. Same if it turns out they played sports in high school, especially football.
@@Xenilolix Yeah, AIC signed to a major first, but that means nothing. Even before mainstream fans were introduced to Pacific Northwest grunge, it had already been one of the most hyped scenes in underground music for the previous several years. AIC saw what was going on around them locally and hopped on what they recognized to be a rising trend. You've gotta realize, by the time mainstream music fans are introduced to a "new" band or scene, most fans of underground music already knew about it 2-3 years prior. I watched it happen in the early 2000s with both emo (ATDI) and the garage rock revival (White Stripes) - before those scenes blew up, they'd already been two of the biggest trends in independent music for several years that got the most hype and sold the most records. That's also how it happened with grunge, though I thought it came out of nowhere at the time because I was oblivious to underground music.
Steve grunge isn’t a genre. The bands then were punk or metal. Soundgarden, AIC, malfunkshun were Metal. Green River, Nirvana, Mudhoney, Melvins were punk.

is that true? :O
SebaChannel yeah I went to Shorewood, it was nuts, I am still friends with the rest of the rest of the original band
so cool, what an awesome oportunity
layne is always gonna be one of the greatest voices ever to me

Jerry knew a GOOD thing when he heard it!!!!
First time hearing this, great to hear Layne' voice from the early days... RIP brother! Miss you!

@21:38 The Original "Queen Of The Rodeo"
before Alice In Chains ...
Layne Staley-Vocals
Johnny Barcolas-Bass
Nick Pollard-Guitar
Bam Bamm-Drums
\m/\m/
Thank you so much for sharing this music and all the informations! Layne already had a wonderful voice, a real natural talent!
29:30 "fuck you Layne!"
The beginning is cracking Me up lol
WOW! Layne rocks!
21:35 Queen of the Rodeo.
I had no idea that it was written this early, it's interesting how much it stands out from the rest of the songs.
29:35 LOL he rips on the heckler with acne ..tells him to invest in stridex pads, not just buy some for himself.

Really? Layne never talked smack about anyone. Where is this info at?
@@HildeAzul th-cam.com/video/0NF5b4v8q6c/w-d-xo.html skip over to 3:59. He even insulted gays by calling someone a total fag.
Don't get me wrong...Alice in Chains is the best of all the Seattle bands and one of my favorite bands but I gotta call a spade a spade.
Glam is not fondly remembered by 99 percent of people, it was just a fad,and the word f@6 has more than one meaning, grow up dude
@@Firm-Tofu-King wow. I posted that forever ago. You're late to this party. And everything I wrote was proper. So evolve dude!
Queen of the Rodeo is a banger
This has a total Faster Pussycat and LA Guns sound!!!! (Maybe throw in a little Krokus and Tesla too!) LOVE IT!!!
Ohhhhhhh.....donna!
Ohhhhhhhh.....donna!
Damn, i love that song.

YEAAAAAAH!!!!!
lip lock rock is actually quite good.just here for Laynes voice
I believe the word is spelled. either " sleeze" or " sleaze". What they wrote spells something else.
@cameltooth1 \m/\m/..now you can say, on the day you were born this was happening in music's history! awesome
I can say I was getting trashed and dancing on chairs to Faster Pussycat and LA Guns when this was happening!! LMAO!!! (Gotta admit it has a similar sound!) PS. It was at our weekly kegger party!
Very cool but the best what could have happen is that Layne met Jerry
Sounds like they got inspiration from guns n roses, la guns, faster pussycat
@GotMeWrong1984 it's on the back of the CD!

Track list?
Where'd you get that little write up in the description Angie? I've never seen that before!
wow there's a lot of girls back then 😂
Technically this is better played music than anything they did later on, lyrics are dumb but music is very good heavy/glam metal!
25:36 Mike Monroe

Staight garbage! Thank god he met Jerry
I like AIC but they were mega-posers.

Steve they made grunge a big thing fool! It was just punk and glam bands back in the late 80s . They were signed first

I'm a grunger, because I listened to grunge, and I'm born in the mid 90s.
Glam Metal sucks.
to me: glam is dirty and nauseous
Funny
and Gay
Grunge: Punk, Best Music, Lots of Screamings, and Worship between Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain.
No way, this is awesome!!
The Principality Of Zeon guess what. The singer for this glam band, became the singer for of the biggest grunge bands.
