    In 2022 Patrick hat the huge luck and pleasure to be invited to Pickle Lake for witnessing one of the world's last operations of the classic Avro/ Hawker Siddeley/ BAe HS 748 with Wasaya Airways. Without a jumpseat, Patrick was not able to ride along the flight, but Engineer Kevin took the chance and organized an air-to-air filming session for him straight away. The result is certainly one of our best cockpit movies ever: two fantastic crews filmed in parallel, synced to the millisecond, whilst flying an air-to-air sortie. Enjoy this lovely piece of aviation history!

    Fabulous filming and great to see the HS748 (originally the Avro 748) still working. The twin Darts are something once heard are never forgotten. Brought back so many memories of seeing these at Manchester (EGCC) flying with British Airways and Dan Air. I presume this is one built at the Avro/Hawker Siddley plant at Woodford Aerodrome. I am one of the volunteers at the Avro Heritage Museum preserving the history of the Avro company and its successors at the very site where this lovely aircraft first took to the skies in 1969.
    When the old girl is ready for retirement, you could always bring her home to Manchester. Sadly we have lost the runway at Woodford so she would have to be dismantled before transportation to and reassembly at her birthplace.

    Thanks so much for the video and memories of this beautiful plane. In the 80’s I was lucky to fly inside of this plane a few times. The airline was called SATA airlines and it flew the Azores islands. As a kid I always wanted to sit near the window and stare at those props and hear that distinctive sound they made depending on the angle of the plane was turning on ground. The sound of the turbo props and the roaring that plane made in person was nothing I ever experienced again.

    I used to be a military contractor specializing in Satellite Communications in the Canadian Arctic on the North Warning System. Back in the late 80's and early 90's the 748 was the workhorse that provided logistics support to the sites flying in cargo and passengers weekly operated by First Air Charter Services. First Air also used them in their commercial business as it was a very configurable platform. I once took a commercial flight between Cambridge Bay and Iqaluit which was what we referred to as a milk run as it stopped in a few communities between the two endpoints. The crew actually reconfigured the cabin for more passenger space in flight as we had offloaded some heavy cargo and they added seats back into the cabin to increase the passenger capacity going into the next village.

      Awesome story its stunning, that the aircraft works as an passgenger plane and a crago workhorse. these type of missions must have been a lot of fun. Stay safe and enjoy the videos ;)

    This is beautiful! We in the Indian Air Force still fly ~50 of them, across diverse terrain and roles. These beauties are soon to be replaced by the C-295, starting next year. There's a good chance you'll spot one if you're flying into New Delhi IGI! PS. Here we call them the Avro!

    What a terrific aircraft. After standing on the outdoor public viewing terrace at Toronto's Pearson International Airport (then Malton Airport) as a child watching my Dad come and go on business trips in the late 50's and early 60's I think I would recognize the sound of a Rolls Royce Dart turboprop anywhere. During the late 70's with a PPL I was taxiing a C172 to the active runway at Pearson and had the opportunity to watch Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's government Vickers Viscount pass right in front of my nose after being told by ground control to give way to the PM's ship. That brought back a lot of memories as it was probably the last one flying in Canada and the sound of the Dart motors is very nostalgic for me.

      @AirClipscom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the nice comment Bruce I had a blast reading it. The nostalgic feeling is something I can relate to aswell. I will never forget about the early days of fotographing planes when everything was new to me. This feeling of the early days just popps up in my head when im doing recording work for airclips.

    Thanks a lot! You made me remember my early teenager years in Santiago, Chile. A convulsive time... However, one day I was walking with an aunt in front of Beautiful Arts Palace, in the middle of the Forestal Park. and all in a sudden a Lan-Chile 748 appears out of nothing over the tree line from the north directly in front of us. Still I wonder why the Captain was flying so low; I remember he almost touched the high trees on the river Mapocho riverside and zoomed over our heads in a blink of an eye to get lost behind the buildings beside the Santa Lucía Hill- He was surely at no more than 150 feet and the noisy RR Darts filled my ears! Precisely the harrowing noisy whistle you reminded me today. Thanks a lot, again.

    Queen Elizabeth 11 of Englnd used to fly in a HS748 of the Queens Flight, she was not too pleased at the noise level of the Dart engines whe taxying,so the pilots would ride the brakes to keep slow steady spped whilst keeping the Dart engines at a power setting that avoided the Dart twang to the ear at ground idle power.

    how many gallons can the 748 tanker haul? back when I FE'ed DC-6's in Alaska, we could haul about 3800 gallons of fuel oil, but Im sure the RR darts are more reliable and less maintenance than the Piston engines on a DC-6. also did they ever make any RR darts with reversing propellers. Im sure you guys know what you're doing, but using rubber fuel bladders gives me some pause cuz they can't be properly grounded and when the temperature drops well below zero, static electricity is a real problem, a few machines have been burned to the ground using plastic drums for fueling and unfueling aircraft in Alaska. Maybe rubber isn't as bad, but I remember that old trick where you rub an inflated ballon against your head producing static electricity that makes your hair stand up

    Considering the props i think it indeed aree RR-535 engines, (that would make it a Dart-6 not a Dart-7)
    The wine is awfull but that's how these where.
    I noticed the girl is starting up the engines with props feathered. that's unusial to Single shaft engines, never seen that.( is it the same engines ?)
    While this guy indeed starts the engines in fine pitch (and has way more of this familiar noice)
    How did you manage to find these kinda planes ?
    How did you manage to give you a chase plane ? pfff you're a hero !
    Still flying two planes at the same time.... never did that before 🥵
