"Best Wearable" award is nonsense!!! All these awards from CES, NAB, J.D. Powers are all paid for endorsements! I wish I had seen this review before my purchase and even bought two units! Afterall they show 2 being worn in the ad! The only saving grace is I them them for $99 each not $300. So that being said, they are worth $99 but they need to be able to operate as a dual setup.
Dr. Olson, I listened to your review on Olive smart, and I was disappointed because I was hoping it was an excellent earbud. However, I received an e-mail from the company saying they have a newer and improved model, called Olive Pro. Have you had the chance to review it yet?
I recently received the Olive Pro. It’s so so but hurts my ears so much the longest I can stand wearing them is about two hours. One size doesn’t fit all. They should make them in small, medium, and large for different sized ears. In most of their promo videos, it’s all men who are using them. What about women or kids? I’ve been using $5,000 hearing aids for several years and hoping to find a cheaper and better alternative. So far I’m sadly disappointed.
@@danphillips3580 There are a whole set of sizes in the ear bud covers. I tried them all and use the smallest one. That’s not so bad but the heavy white plastic shape squashes my ear and is so uncomfortable I’m thinking of grinding it down with a Dremel. I’m worried that would affect the sound quality though. In general, the sound is clear and different from my $5000 hearing aids in a good way. They’ve just sent out a notice on Kickstarter with links to their new how-to-use videos. I’m very curious to hear your review.

@@DrCliffAuD Aren't we all (insert eye-roll) I'm sure hoping these have some serious bang for the (few) bucks. Looking forward to your review. And thank you for all you do!!
Dr Cliff; your review confirms what I found when using Olive Union's device. I was an early beta tester in fall 2018. I tested them as a pair and found very little if any benefit for my high frequency hearing loss. With almost no benefit for my hearing loss, I also found that its design made the occlusion such that little or no low frequency sound reached my ear. The effect was best compared to the two tin cans connected by string that I remember from my childhood. Additionally, they were uncomfortable to wear as all of their weight is external and it was hard to tolerate them hanging off your ear canal.
The fact this won best hearable is further confirmation these awards are irrelevant. Consumers need to do their homework and never choose a product based on awards. Cliff your videos are so important and valuable to people with hearing loss!
I am so glad I got my CI since with my hearing loss being so profound in the high frequency range and approaching severe in the low frequency I dont think there was any hearing aid that could over come that loss. I am also working on rehabilitation for speech in noise and although less than 3 weeks outs from activation I am seeing marked improvement in that realm depending on the speaker and their voice. Maybe one day these hearables will improve and even be of benefit to those like myself who use a CI plus a CROS, until then I cant wait for the world to go back to normal so I can see if my Roger Select really does help in noisy environments like restaurants!
I have otosclerosis in my right ear, and had the stapedectomy 6 yrs ago. It brought back some hearing, but not a lot. Doc said hearing aids are the next step, but who the hell can afford them?! I can hear higher pitches all too well. 😖 But low pitches? Yeah, not so much, which just thrills the hubby. He can't tell if I can't hear him for real, or selectively. 🤫😏 When I use my earbuds to listen to music or watch something other than the weird crap he watches, I only use the left. I also use it to go to sleep. I may not be able to hear low pitches, but apparently that doesn't apply to the snoring bear sleeping next to me. I have been looking around at these earbuds with the hearing amplify feature, and I like the one sided bud. Have you compared any other buds?
Hi Brianne. I've had the exact same ear issues (Otosclerosis & had a Stapedectomy about 11 years ago). I haven't ever had a chance to interact with someone with a similar history, wondering if you would you like to connect to exchange notes?
@@DrCliffAuD wow OK well thank you, so im thinking of trying the airpods to help boost my hearing, my hearing is good but I can use some help and want to try them. I have had my hearing checked and I go every couple of years.
It's interesting how audiologists still want to amplify high frequencies. If the cochlea cannot convert the signal from acoustic (sound wave) to electric (nerve signal) why amplify those sounds? Hopefully now frequencies shifter and compressor exist. But still... 99% of the audiologists don't get it.
@Doctor Cliff what is in your opinion the best hearable in the market? I have a bad case of tinnitus and I am looking to get a pair of earing aids, my insurance will only cover 500$ and the bill was 6000$ for the pair, so I am looking for something that can help me reduce the stress that the Tinnitus is causing. What do you suggest?
I need your help I itched my eat with my finger and popped my finger out of my ear and ever since I have a pressure built up in my ear and I don’t know what to do
Great review! $299 for one? $600 to listen to the music? This device should cost $20 max for a pair. I downloaded the free application from the app store and using earbuds, it has better quality. I wonder if the Olive Pro would be a better device.
Ironically the negatives of it not sealing the ear canal well and sacrificing LF amplification, prevents too bad of occlusion, plus it is more tolerable when the opposite ear isn't occluded.
2 problems: not enough volume as a hearing aid; the shape - the ear tube is too short and the body too big to fit in a smaller ear. Wasted my $ on 2 of them. Anyone want one, unopened?
I bought their kickstarter beta version. It was Olive Union's first ever launch and was incredibly disappointing at every level... It was "wow!' and great at the first 20 minutes of using it, but it stopped pairing, then stopped charging the next day. I emailed to and fro with the developer and they only sent me a repair instruction for me to do it by myself, to welder it, and they totally stopped responding me after I asked how to do it, maybe three times. With that service, I will never want to buy it from this company...
Also, the company is crooked. Was an Indiegogo donor on their other product.. They showed up 6 months after promised, were DOA. No response after several emails. Finally posted a DIY solder fix. Yeah. I tried it and they were still dead. I should have taken my half deaf ass out and got drunk with the $200 I flushed on these.
Hard to imagine how it could have won "Best Wearable" based on this review. Thanks again for another great review. Stay safe.

There's new pair of airport looking hearing aids. Waiting for your reviews.

Hey are these better than the nuhear ? I can’t hear very good with the nuhear was wondering if these are louder
I would love to see a review of the Olive Pro 2 in 1.
Garbage products. I will not be doing another review of anything they create until they have a significant improvement and meet minimum OTC standards.
Airpod pro transparency mode which can work stand alone in pair or single.. n its just USD249. Can it compare?

What if you do not have a smart phone? No other way to calibrate the ear bud?
You can always get a cheap $30 smartphone to use this.
which is better, Olive Union Smart Ear or Nuheara iqbuds2 max ?
That’s what I wanna know
The only amplification being given is where most people with hearing loss have normal hearing!
what is the maximum amplication outout in dB ?
Not sure if you're asking Max Output or Max Gain. Max Output is 125 dB, Max Gain is 51 dB.
Won’t people have occlusion with that earbud plugging their ear canal?
Ironically the negatives of it not sealing the ear canal well and sacrificing LF amplification, prevents too bad of occlusion, plus it is more tolerable when the opposite ear isn't occluded.
I have went completely mute in my right ear, will I be able to hear with these, and even more importantly, will I be able to listen to music????
No, if you have Single Sided Deafness (SSD). This product will not work for you. Have you seen a doctor yet? SSD can be caused by a tumor.
