What are your thoughts on this new Phonak Lumity Hearing Aid lineup? Do they sound significantly better than the Paradise lineup?

Hi: I have Naida Marvel M70 - Naida , during the pandemic (in 2020) was damaged the previous model ( Naida Q70 SP), because of the short time I had to go for the new Naida and transfer the configuration, there was not enough time to test the Audeo Marvel-. I have been recommended to try the audeo model. I am disappointed to learn that there is no disposable battery version. Next year I will look into trying the audeo model.
I hope the brand hears my request, that there is a version with disposable batteries. I guess it will be possible to gather signatures. How many users love the disposable battery version? Me, forever. Unless the next model includes fast charging, the current Lumity seems to have a charging duration similar to the iphone - classic charger, not fast charging -.
      Sorry for the translation.
Thanks for your great videos! Greetings from Argentina!

I am going to my AuD in three days to have a new hearing test (it’s been 7 years since I got the Unitrons) and I will get these new Lumity R90 Life hearing aids, plus the Roger On, and I can’t wait! It’s as though they were custom made for my needs! (Geeky lady who teaches and lives in a hot climate) Thank you for this marvelous presentation to guide us to what is new, outstanding, unique, and top of the list equipment. Thank you so much for making these videos. I appreciate so much that you speak intelligently and give me all the technical details. You were the only professional on the internet who explained how hearing aid bluetooth worked and I bought the Phonak Paradise Life devices because I would be able to connect to any audio bluetooth device. I am only 60 and can literally keep working for years longer because of the ability to hear Teams meetings from my computer. Thank you!

I have to get hearing aids. Trying to decide where to start the process was a challenge. I selected an established company for a hearing test & I left with the only hearing aids I was shown. I didn’t feel comfortable with their process. I found your videos on TH-cam during the trial period. I was blown away on the education I received on hearing aids from your videos. I returned the hearing aids. I have scheduled an appointment with the only company within a reasonable driving distance that follows the best practices process. I know I would have made a huge mistake if I purchased hearing aids from the initial company I met with. I can’t thank you enough for your unbiased reviews…clear explanations on the current features of hearing aids…new technologies!!!

I finally had my VA audiology consult. My audiologist said I could get the Phonak Lumity Life after she asked if I had any specific models. I was so surprised they were already in the VA's logistical inventory, so they are now on order. I should get my initial fitting mid January. After listening to hundreds of your videos, I completely forgot to ask if they do REM at fitting. They better, or you will get a referral!

Thanks, Dr. Cliff. It sounds like they made some interesting software updates. I agree that they should consider a replaceable battery model. Everyone has unexpected events that require longer than normal usage. My solution is a case that contains my Phonak Marvel M90 312 hearing aids and spare batteries. They have my current program installed. It's old technology, but a working Phonak Marvel is MUCH better than a dead Phonak Lumity.

Dr. Cliff. Thanks for this video. Certainly hearing conversation in loud environments is a major issue. But so is speech clarity in general. I purchased the audio marvel m90r’s several years ago and despite numerous fittings and real sound testing, I have experienced no improvement in clarity nor being able to hear in loud environments. Compared to the marvels, how would the Lumity’s stack up in these two crucial areas?

Wouldn't that be a problem in a cocktail party where you might be in a small pod of three (or two) and there is another pod directly behind or to the side? How does the hearing aid "know" to stay focused on my pod? Anyone?

I am a first time hearing aid user. I have had the lumity L70 R for about 2 weeks now. Could this be due to the audiologist not performing REM at first fitting appointment. They said that happens at the second appointment.

I have the Lumity R90 Life hearing aids, going from the top Widex of 3 years ago. Significant improvement, I can really hear my wife clearly now (don't tell her.)as well as many other sounds, and it adjusts automatically. However, I'm on the techie side and also travel internationally several times a year for photo shoots...6 African countries this last October. I wanted to know what charging standard Phonak used and if there was an emergency method for charging. I tried sending a couple of inquiries to Phonex support. The answers showed little, or no knowledge of the new line and I got some silly responses: "Thank you for reaching out to Phonak. Our hearing aids unfortunately are not Qi charger compatible, and you will be required to use the hearing aid's charger specifically. I would recommend reaching out to your provider and seeing if there is another option for a smaller. travel sized, charger. This may be more beneficial for you."
What travel sized charger do they think my provider is going to have? He just told me that nothing works except their charger. In another response I was told if someone stole my charger in Papua New Guinea to go to the local provider to get a replacement. Yeah, right. As you said in one of your reviews, disappointed that they didn't offer a replaceable battery model. I am buying a second Phonak Charger Case Go to carry in my baggage.

Just starting to learn about hearing aides since I need them. This video, although filled with great information, has left me wondering how anyone would ever decide on a first time purchase. I had no idea there are so many options and my husband thinks I should just go out and buy something to magnify the sound. I have people tell me that they never hear :) a pun, of course...that they do not help. After listening to this video, I certainly understand why. I would guess that most people just go for what they can afford and have no idea that most of these options are available and probably for most unaffordable.

I have a profound monoaural hearing loss - totally deaf on one side, and profoundly deaf on the other. I have a question - I have been wearing the Audeo Marvel with a custom C Shell at Ultra Power - I know that the Paradise Life rechargeable versions do not offer UP on custom C Shells, but the battery version (obviously not Life) does. Is this still the case for Lumity? I dont use the CROS system, so the lack of it is not a problem for me, but the lack of battery option is a bit of a puzzle.

Given Costco Issues with Ks 10, have you seen or heard of any similar problems with Phonak Paradise hearing aids. Since the Ks 10's are close copies of Phonak Paradise, seem "reliability" " charging/battery " issues (or whatever Costco issues are) would be seen in the Phonak line. Thoughts???

If you happen to play guitar, the Phonak TV Connect devicw that sends TV directly to your Audeo Lumity Life HA's works wonderfully. Plus you can connect you guitar amp to the Phonak TV Connect and pipe your guitar and any backing tracks from your amp directly to your HA's, enabling silent practice sessions. Sound is similar to using an expensive musicians caliber ear monitor. Huge bonus!

I tested a new Oticon and found the clarity wonderful. I have a 10 year old Phonak with a Compilot and tv connector. If the phone rings while I am driving without my compilot on, I can answer the phone with the car being connected to my bluetooth. If the compilot is on while driving it would conflict with the car bluetooth. I was told that the Oticaon would allow the car bluetooth to bypass the hearing aid bluetooth and that I could use my car connection. It does not. The only problem is that the Oticon does not support the Android system so I have to hold the phone so I can spek into it and hear it in my hearing aids. Does the new Phonak allow the car to take over instead of the hearing aids so I can use the speaker in the car? I had a hard time hearing the conversation in the car if the phonak was on and I was driving but I could hear better through the speaker in the car. Please let me know.

When I do talk with someone it is usually with the someone to my right (my bad ear) so the SpeechSensor option and "in car" options in the L90 seem to be advantageous. Phonak know that the act e vent, being mechanical is prone to blocking from ear wax. If you choose the active vent you are setting your self up with a RIC that requires maintenance about every 6 months. An audiologist will need to clean out the vents.
The down side of the active vent is that because its an actual electromagnetic actuator that physically opens and shuts the vent it is very much prone to blockage and failure from cerumen / ear wax build up. If you go with this option you WILL be up for regular maintenance. You'll need to go back to the audiologist to get the vents cleaned out. If you try doing it yourself, you risk further impaction abs damage to the venting mechanism. It's a known issue for the Phonak. YMMV but my take was not to choose this option purely from a reliability point of view. The last thing I need is fragile technology.

Dr. Cliff, One thought on battery life: For these hearing aids, when someone uses the TV connector heavily, that is also "streaming", and heavily reduces the battery life of these hearing aids. I had to change to Paradise battery version, or mine would be dead by 3:30 PM, with usage starting at 7:00 am. This was a mix of Bluetooth and TV streaming.
My grandfather also had a similar experience with his Marvel. He uses Bluetooth way less, but watches TV almost all day (retired). His would die by 4:30 to 5:00 on most days.
Would not bring up previous models but for the fact that Phonak did not promote any kind of increased battery life on the Paradise from Marvel, or on the Lumity from the Paradise models.
Any thoughts on this? It is not quite accurate to say that most users will get all day usage, assuming they get even 1 TV link to go with their aids. If they had no Bluetooth, and didn't use TV link, then it is likely they wouldn't have issues, but why buy these hearing aids if the features aren't being used?

On your video about “coolest hearing aid features” you speak of the Phonak Active Vent Receiver being one of those “cool” features. In talking about this feature you mention that the best way to get the greatest advantage of this feature is to get custom ear molds. In this current video you show that the recharging cases for the Audeo Lumity do not have enough room to store ear molds. Is there a solution to this conundrum for the person who wants the Audeo Lumity hearing aids using Active Vent Receivers with custom ear molds?

MAJOR BATTERY UPDATE: After returning my Lumity Life for only giving me 14 hours battery life on the left and 18 on the right. Yesterday I received a new pair of Lumity Life and it confirms that my first set were DEFECTIVE. At this very moment I am at 6% on the Right at just over 20 hours and 11% at on the left. That should give me about 20.5 plus hours max on the right and probably 21 or more hours on the left. I am very pleased.

I'm glad Dr. Cliff spoke up for disposable battery HAs. I am no longer working in Law Enforcement, but rechargeable HAs just aren't an option when you work in jobs that can put you working 16 hours in a day. 12 hour shift, then having to stick around to cover a call out, or working an off-duty detail will stretch you to 16 hours. You need to wear them to and from work and be able to 'exist' before and after work as well. Until a rechargeable can go 24+ with full use (to include streaming), a disposable battery model is just necessary. Since I'm medically retired now, rechargeable HAs are probably viable for me, but they just wouldn't be if I was working. 15% loss in client base is millions of dollars, and all for disposable batteries? Doesn't seem well thought out, or too assumptive that everyone will just go to rechargeable HAs. 12 hour shift work people typically work more alert based jobs, such as policing, nursing, factory and so on, so even the potential of your HA losing battery while working is not a good spot to be in. I always carried a full wheel (8 batteries) on me when I was working simply for assurances. There was always a full wheel in my agency vehicle and personally owned vehicle as well. Yes, rechargeable HAs have come a long way since they first came out, but the current latest and greatest is still 16 hours, and I've worked enough 16 hour days to know that this won't cut it for many professionals. Phonak should be considering these shift-work professionals (and their potential 15% loss of clients) before just planting their flag on the recharge feature. Don't be the Cali EV of HAs - at least not yet.

@@diu7 30 hours sounds very nice. I think most are still boasting 16 hours with streaming, 24 without. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with a 30 hour battery, for sure. I came from Widex, trialed some Oticons, but Phonak had the Bluetooth connectivity between ITE half shelf to the device itself, without needing a connector piece, so I made the move to Phonak. I won't wear BTE, so I'm all about what is available in ITE half shell. Looks like these newest Phonak don't even have ITE models, nor do they intend to. I'm having more trouble with the fit on Lumity Life by the sound performance is astonishing and beats Paradise by no small margin in my opinion. As far as fit, my ear canals have a sharp hook so using silicone domes did not work on the recievers. They made custom molds but something still isn't right on the right side so they need to go back again to remake the right side. I found the Virtos are more comfortable and fit better.
So my perfect HA's would be Virto with Lumity tech but those are a year or more out, if at all.

    1. The platform chip is the same as paradise I think. 2. The brain/system has been changed to auto sense5. 3. Most probably will move from paradise to lumity life. 4. Could the paradise have incorporated the improved directionality and speech in noise algorithms is an open question. 5. If you are using a roger on accessory having directionality with a paradise would a lumity be required is an open question. 6. Wish HAs could pair with more than one roger accessory as I feel roger select is a better table microphone and roger on for directionality. 7. Anyway if there is superior hearing of conversation in both noisy and calm situations as claimed I will incur the expense and move from paradise to lumity even if it costs, tough luck but if you want technological innovation then pay for it.
