Very Great Vlog, you've answered my question regarding the footwear used during UTMB races. Major props to Salomon Ultra Glide and the SG5's, of which I have a pair of each.
Yes I've heard great things about both... Could I ask Aj what mileage you've got on them please? I'm always curious about longevity. Also do you find the SG5s noticeably more cushioned? Thanks!
@@bev9708 I thank you for your input. The SG5's are very cushioned and I truly enjoy them. The Salomon Ultra Glide are my commuter shoes i used for mixed terrain. My mileage in either is around 150+ in the Ultra Glide and about 90 in the SG5's
Podium finishers are usually pro athletes, who’ll have sponsorships, of which include shoe companies. Those runners will be contracted to wear that company’s shoe…
Great video! I have the Adidas Terrex Speed Flow 225. Bought it for 65 USD here in Norway. Its a very light , almost racing flat feel trail shoe. But I have been very suprised by its cushioning with a moderate stack height. I have the Speedgoat 4 and the Fuji Light 2 which can be called ultra type trail shoes, but I feel the Terrex Speed Flow is a better shoe. The OCC shows pro runners agree. Across as distances this shows affordable shoes are also chosen on all distances. Thats great. Thanks for showing us the facts.
Tried a Salomon (Trailster and X-Ultra 2), but never again, it is the most uncomfortable and rigid shoe I have ever worn!! Not even if they pay me for it! I do not care what Pros wear, they are paid to wear it and advertise with superlatives. As an amateur, I can carefully select which model I am paying for and I can talk about my experience honestly. So switched for Mizuno and my newest purchase Inov8...
X Ultra 2 is a hiking shoe not meant to be used in a race, Trailster is not a race shoe, is an occasional trail running shoe , more to be used for training.
Great insights! Would love to see you test and review the NNormal's when they officially drop. Also would like your opinion on best shoes to wear on a grass training set (racing flat, carbon plate racer, spikes, bare foot, generic trainer, etc.).
Many thanks for this vid! I run on vibram fivefinger shoes a couple of road-marathons and some trails (35km). I would like to do an ultra trail of 50km. Never run this far on my vibrams . Do you if there are some barefoot style runners and do you see problems if I go on fivefingershoes?
What i find quite interesting is that the women who won the CCC ( breaking the record) was wearing a shoe from decathlon the Evadict race light, which i have run with myself... from a price point of view, awesome bang for buck! A Really good shoe for 90-100€
man pulsar trail pro is fast on technical trails, but it gnaws my foot to pieces after like 20 k haha. Very rough and unforgiving shoe, atleast for my foot ^^
Hey, can you help me out, i would like to know what madelina florea was wearing on the gtws 2023!!. I would want to buy these shoes. But cant find any info
Imagine being so good at trail running that you can develop your own shoe and gear, then wear those shoes (the same pair) in all your races that year and win them all (including the superbowl - UTMB). I feel like Killian was just a bit too early for this sport. Another 10-20 years and this sport will be so popular and people will look back on this guy but not really understand just how good he is/was:)
WOWWW!!! Good Luck with that!!!! Looks like you need something with real grip for that one... have you chosen anything yet Rhys? Do you think you'll go with a GoreTex shoe??
Hey can you make a list of Trail Running shoes .. or even HIKING shoes ... that are great for people with FLAT FEET ?.... i have this condition ... and i use for my Trail running ... SALOMON SPEEDCROSS PRO with whom i'm very satisfied, + i have a pair of basic Salomon with lower studs for summer hiking that are not that great TBH ... and a pair of SALOMON QUEST 3 GTX the lower black one, that are disappointing in the cushioning part.

@@ajmartinez1906 Ohh thanks so much… I hope they last you fir many more happy miles!!
@@bev9708 Yeah, I hope so. Salomon has yet to release an update to the Ultra Glide, so I’m trying not to burn them out
Excellent video. This was exactly what I was wondering the whole week of the races: what are they wearing? :D Thank you so much for making this vid.
Thanks for watching!
AGREE!!!

Pole analysis? I saw a lot of Leki trailshark gloves in the crowd

You're a proper shoe geek! That's for your awesome feedback :)
If I recall the original UTMB race is the 23k. The 100 miler wasn't created until something like 2006. The cross goes back to the 1970s.
Think you are mixing up Chamonix marathon week with UTMB which has always run around Mont Blanc for 160k. Twentieth edition next year.
Good video, I learnt a lot. Thank you. I wish I had heard of The Scarpa Ribelle Run yesterday.

Amazing and useful information thank you for sharing your perspective ❤
Great comparison. There was a 100k race also and a woman who was second was on north face shoes.

great concept great video
Great video!!! :)
Thanks Phil!
What about statistics from all other runners not in the podium.
Exactly.. the runners without sponsorships.
Most prob the same shoes there’s not much trail running shoes out there, also these shoes are cheap so normal runners would be using them
Thanks for the information 🇮🇳
Well done~
Wait, are you South African? Cool. Dont see many SA youtubers in running
Yep! Me neither, if you spot any others let me know ;)
Is mach 5 behind u?
Johnson Kevin Williams Brian Williams Jeffrey
The Podium does not reflect retail trail running shoe sales. That would have been more interesting and informative.
What about the women ?
The whole video showed both mens and womens podium footwear.
Did you even watch the video...

we should really stop calling shoes fast and winning
