I have the GENERAC IQ3500. I have about 200 hours on it. It is used for both my business and RV. It has been great. Zero oil consumption. It will run my RV with AC going for about 9 hours pulling 16 amps. I have also routinely run the full 3000 watts on it, and it doesn’t complain. With light load, it gets about 24 hours on a tank of gas. I get lots of comments on how quiet it is. I had a Firman Dual fuel inverter before this, and it was way too loud for RV use.
I've on both many generac and many Hondas. I live in the bush in Alaska where we run off of nothing but generator in the winter. I always found generac to be low quality compared to Honda. I have some 2200 Honda's that have over 7,000 hours on them in a two-year time change the oil once a week keep your keep your gas filter clean build a box that can run in in the winter they last a long time. Trying to compare the generac to Honda is like trying to compare a skateboard to a Cadillac.
Being homeless here in Indiana in a tent this would be such a blessing with the cold months coming in. Also needing a canvas tent with stove jack of some kind for me and my esa
We want to be able to run 3 freezer and 2 refrigerator at the same time. Would this be a good choice and would I have to plug the freezer into a multi plug?
You should do a real world testing and I say that because I have a Honda 2200 had for years and I have the IQ 3500 Generac and the 2200 Honda produces more power and uses less fuel than the iq3500 does I'm not sure how they get there numbers.
The most important information in buying a generator will be found by opening them up. Inside you will see the engine manufacturers and specs, determin the mounting & cooling locations for the inverter boards, and gain an over impression on wire/hose management to protect from heat/elements. The inside will provide the complete picture spec sheets and outside panels omit.
I have the iq3500 for about 4 years now it’s been great but the screen display only shows hours and can’t find a replacement for it … .. next one will be a Honda 7000 just to get more power and the easy of access to parts I wish Generac would up there parts availability game
I bought two of the generacs iq3500. I live off grid and run solar in Michigan, but we have lots of cold and cloudy days, so I thought these would be a great back up solution. I have been mistaken, these generacs, low oil light does not work, they leak oil, are very loud and I have had both of them in the shop inside of a year of ownership for shutdowns, no restarts. They have been covered under warranty, but I plan on calling generac to see if they have some type of return policy. Really unhappy with them. Almost impossible to change the oil, the dipstick is hard to reach inside the generator, and you have to tilt it after putting in oil to check to see if your levels are correct. Recommend changes after 100 hours. I have done this a ton and had to buy a special pump to remove the oil, because there is no oil drain. I would recommend against the generic.
Thank you. What would you suggest for us. We go to a place where the electricity is touch and go not working sometimes for a few days or more. What would be suitable for my wife & I to have where it starts automatically without us messing around with plugs wires or gasoline. We love our AC it’s important to have something that would keep them running as well. Thank you.
A home standby is best if you just want to connect to natural gas and never be without power unless gas line is compromised which would be like a major tornado or earthquake. Those will run entire home. If you are talking about a portable check out larger power stations like Goal Zero or Cummins. But for AC and no fuss Home standby for sure.
Both units operate at less than 58 db even at 80% load. So sound isn’t a big factor on either unit. When you start getting into 9000 to 15000 and open frames then there is night and day difference.
We have a generac iq3500 which was purchased in 2021. We are in the panhandle of Fl. and haven't had to use it yet. We start it up generally every other month and store in covered in the garage. My frustration with this is I can barely read the digital display moniter. I do have to wear readers but I can't make out the remaining fuel. I see a tiny icon of a gas pump. Could you do a quick video showing someone going through the display readings? Please......🥺
I bought the Generac in 15 July 21...And lots of problems with it...I had the Honda 3000....They are high but the quality of Honda is well noticeable after a few years...Im very disappointed with this generac and its hardly 3 years old...I'm gonna call again tommorow about this....Better think twice about getting one...I hate to leave a bad review but it left us in the dark tonight Camping on the river....I always thought generac had a good name we use the big ones at work for backup generators always had good luck with them. But this one sure has disappointed me..😢
I have a open frame generac paid $500 for it think its a 7000 its still running like 15 years later. It's definitely not quiet though. Why I'm watching this. I bought a champion, looked at hondas, need another for a different property, but still my old generac is still running so keep thinking generac. One i have was for running tools and where i live we lose power in winter sometimes so it sits out in the snow and powers my house. I think it running after 15 years (and I'm not very careful with maintenance at all) is pretty good. Change the oil like once or twice a year, add if its low other times. It's missing a wheel, little rusty. Still running. When i first bought it everyone said i should have bought the commercial Honda. And far as noise they were right. But i dont know if that honda would be running now and it was 4 times the price then.
The Honda sucks in comparison! The only down side to the generac is it runs out of fuel 6 hours sooner and that’s because the fuel tank is 40% smaller which aids in its whopping 20 pounds lighter weight over the eu3000is. Personally I would rather refuel a little more often than to have to lift 20 extra pounds into the back of my pick up on my own.
Do not buy Generac by Honda!!! Generac does not back up their product they do not back up their warranty it’s an absolute joke I’m just warning people because I purchased a new generator and Generac won’t give me the time of day, they do not back up their product it’s a waste of money spend the money and get a quality product like Honda And at least Honda has enough technicians in the United States to honor #Warranty repairs etc. I basically purchased a expensive generator that’s absolute garbage and worthless to me I haven’t been able to even use it do not buy Generac folks

Exactly what I needed to hear - thank you for a clean and efficient video
Honda will always be a A Honda! However, I'm poor so the Generac will do.

Thank you so much for this help. Much appreciated,
Just bought the Generac in exhibition in a store at 650 Bucks

No sound test?

The Generac is noticeably louder with a lot of mechanical clatter that the Honda does not emit.

Just don’t start it up, you need to put a load on it, too. Something like an electric heater.
I’ll see what we can do. We rarely put fuel in displays but let me see if I can find something for you.
@@generatormart4631 I really appreciate that.
nice set up
Is the Honda worth 3 times the cost?
YES if you want a generator top last forever. I have the Honda for many many years and it has been perfection.

Is the Honda going to live for decades, and the Generac quit after a couple years or less?
Good question.... we sell a bunch of each and rarely have a complaint about either. Time will tell!

@@itsallminor6133 good stuff for sure!
My generac did 2 and 1/2 years old...
@@firemission4495How's your Generac holding..?
i've had my honda since 2007 with zero problems and wrth every penny although the generac looks pretty attractive.

The fuel capacity is definitely limiting, but hard to beat the Honda's noise level for some applications too.
