Imagine being so inspired by Robert Smith in 1988 that you start a metal band with a Cure influence pivotal to its sound, but then you get to actually collab with him on wax. They say never meet your heroes, but two just saved the day in a big way.
Crazy part is Rob basically interjected during the Fur to Pony age and helped Chino with his lyrics. Amazing seeing pure legends like this collide

I read in a recent interview with Chino about this song, he wrote it 2 years ago when he was just in a downright depressed state. Sitting alone in his room, feeling lonely and just plain sad.

Deftones created something no one knew was needed in music. Chino and his Duran Duran Depeche Mode The Cure love, Stephen with his haunting mathematical guitar riffs, Abe with his hip hop and pop drums, it shouldn't have worked but it did and the world has been better because of it. They single handedly created so many new genres and still 30+years later are still blowing us away

This song.. This is only the second song ever to hit me in the feels. I sat in this chair, had an edible, listened to this over and over with my eyes closed and just shed tears. Especially once I caught on to the lyrics. I have never called a song a masterpiece until now. This is the first.

I love when I tell people that The Cure is my favorite band. You'll get a "who?", or a look of "why?". Heh, oh I don't know, they likely influenced your favorite band. We see them every chance we get, last show was Hollywood Bowl of which Deftones also performed. Holy COW they rocked the house, sounded exactly like they do on their albums, good times.

I am 41, and saw Deftones at Warped Tour 98 in Seattle. They changed my life with 7 words when I was just a 6th grader, so that show was an amazing, harrowing experience.(was up against the rails, as a scrawny 8th grader) However, if you had told me that Chino would be a part of not only more killer Deftones stuff 20+ years in the future, but a whole new project that made some of my favorite songs ever, I would have slapped you and rolled you a J with you. Crosses is some of the most transportational, and deeply infectious music I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The facade of reality is crumbling, but the music and energy we generate remains eternal. Thank you for all the amazing vibrations Chino and company.
