  • A versatile Indian classical dancer, 'Natya Mayura' awardee Mr. Parshwanath Upadhye has carved out a niche for himself today as one of the most sought-after male dancers in the country. In this talk, he performs Bharatanatyam, and speaks about classical dance not just being a form of entertainment but an alternate education system that is slowly disappearing. This varnam where Hanuman can't wait any longer to see Lord Rama is "madhuraathi madhuram". I am blissed out watching your performance enacting their ( Hanuman, Shiva, Rama) leelas live. May Lord Rama bless you. Your speech has a strong message. Citizens of India, wake up to this truth, art calls for no gender descrimination, does sun shine less on one gender and more on the other?

To see the dancing of Parshnawath is is not only to see the divine expressed through dance, it becomes a participation in the divine. Classical dance, like Bharatnatyam, is an exquisitely trained display of muscle memory where human culture and its spirituality is expressed in a visually transcendent manner. Parshnawath has the magnificent ability to expose the transcendent, which is hidden, through a highly trained and disciplined sensuality of motion through dance, facial expression, body gestures and mudras. He thus becomes a gift of the Divinity, and this is grasped by all who see him dance. He has been bequeathed a divine gift and had neither wasted it nor let it go fallow. His reflection on his choice to study Bharatnatyam and its implications proves the multidimensional depth of his awareness of its importance.

This mentality of why classical dance, why classical music MUST change, it's high time. Why do most Indians put down their own culture? Wakeup.

The topic speech was great. I also caught the part where you were mentioning about being FREE MAN!!😁 Although I dont think the audience reacted to it. The only down fall is the color changes of the light while you performed. It would have been good to stick to white light to see you better. It too distracting. Amazing performance!!
