This was my first contact with Dead can Dance. I was 18 years old, on deck of a night ferry to Dover. A classmate gave me his walkman to listen to "Cantara" and I dived into this dark music watching the black ocean. I will never forget this. Still my favourite DCD track. Thank you Dana for this lovely video.
Used to listen to their work on the beach at night, the sounds of the waves and the shapes of the clouds made it so much stronger. Was an amazing experience
The most unique, and talented band in the world. No one, NO ONE, can sing with the passion that Lisa does. Hundreds of years from now, Dead Can Dance will be regarded as we now regard the likes of Beethoven and Bach.
Absolutely magical - saw them in Cologne more than 20 years ago in the Philharmonie and it was one of my best concerts, and that with my father, he had never been heard them before, and it was fabulous for him and me THANX DCD
I learned a dance to this song in 2004. It involved holding candles and much interweaving of formations for the dancers. More exuberant and energetic than sad and dark.
I used to walk in a cemetery just like this one and listen to this song on my MP3 player. It was a very cathartic experience. thank you for uploading it brings back a lot.
In my mind, if raves existed back in the days of the Roman Empire, this is the kind of music to which they would have danced about like mad people! It's so rousing and dramatic, I just can't sit still listening to this, I have to move with it. I find it as motivating as 90's house music when it comes to stoking up the wild man inside me! :-D
The live version on "Toward The Within" is the most primal man-made thing I have ever heard. Lisa, in the last minute and a half, takes what you heard here and reaches for a place so deep that her voice bends off into what I can only describe as Kundalini serpent places. A place inside her where the lyric on the studio version just cannot go without writhing if it is expected to mark us. And mark us it does, all of us, as you will hear in the audience, you right there alongside them.
Love this song but do not think the video fits it....I don't think it's a sad song. It's a powerful song. It makes me feel like I have a fire inside of me.
although it depends on translation..its about the power of a singing voice! ;) or like alot of Water..so maybe it combines the power of a river with the power of a singing voice
For some reason, I'm always reminded of a majestic, crumbling aztec temple deep within tropical rainforest when I hear this. Hauntingly beautiful, an almost ethereal but proud reminder of what once was. This song is what plays when I think of otherworldly grace.
I discovered DCD with this song. I bought all their albums and I went to the Père Lachaise Cemetary to discover the tomb whose photo is on the album cover.
Piękna prezentacja. Strasznie zrobiło mi się smutno, bo wiem, ile czasu już upłynęło od chwili, kiedy słuchałem tego wspaniałego utworu ostatni raz... I jaki już jestem stary... I że niedługo umrę...
DCD FOREVER!!! i have danced under the stars, about a fire with my friends on very good drugs and without in my youth to this and others of theirs. OH HOW WE DANCED! oh how i love brendan and lisa for their wonderful world they’ve given us. such an act of love.
There's nothing really dark to this song. The Middle-Eastern influences are so hard to ignore that all you get is a sort of Moorish-slash-Gypsy need to get up and dance, once Lisa Gerrard gets her windpipe going! It's incredibly lively. Maybe it's just me, but I never entirely got the Goth/Dead Can Dance connection. Some songs are dark, sure, but this one is just so passionate it's hard to find some kind of turgid undertone to it.
One of my inner child who was born when I was in the deepest depths of depression dances to this. She wants to hear it over and over and over. I don't know what exactly DCD does, but this is new.
this song has the ability to make you think outside the box its tragic but somehow uplifting at the same time i guess its where your head is at any time i feel its a soing to go into battle like om a white horse charging those who oppress you in a swift sword cut in a motion and float away and the battle is done its dreamlike quality is just sublime anyone reading this in the normal day to day wont feel it have a glassof wine lie back and take it in this is music to take you to another place look at how many likes should to tell you sommin
+Thomas Brilke I grew up on Death and Thrash metal. When I first heard DCD Within... album I instantly fell in love with it. Suddenly the whole world became enchanted, enigmatic and undiscovered - beautiful. And so much open and vast...
+Rudal yes, man. It's me too! I 've heard Slayer, Metallica, Napalm death and so on, before I get DCD in my fingers! It responset me the whole wide world between noise meral!
Yes I love Ataraxia too. I live in New Zealand and they've never been here, but if they ever come i would be the first to buy a ticket. You have very good taste.
Tout à fait d'accord! La musique, surtout la musique, et après tout la musique, like you said, this music can exist purely by itself... Cheers to you, à votre santé! Namaste...
Great video and song choice! I had borrowed my grandpa's car to go for a job interview back in the mid 80's, when I returned back to his house I came in the front door and noticed my Grandma lying on the couch,so I started to whisper "Thanks Grandpa" and he said "you don't need to whisper, Grandma's passed not sleeping." I was shocked at his gentleness. He actually took a few pictures of her with his poloraoid..it was so sweet..I'm glad I was there...she took a nap and never woke up...

Absolutely not but this band is Amazing.
Listen to Legendary Pink Dots and Tears Garden 😉
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded.
The merger of European Gothic and Oriental sensuality. Excellent!
The dead really can dance in this one!
Will always love this song; no matter how old I get!
this is not depressing. more magical
This is Hypnotic, in a wonderful sense , and i am a manic depressive
that’s what it’s meant to be.

大学時代の友人が「ジャケ買いした」というこのDead can danceのCDを貸してもらったのは、もう20年以上前のこと。以来、この神秘的で、ダークで、頽廃的でいて神々しいサウンドに魅了され続けております。
