I watched Baraka when released on the big screen in 92 then travelled the world for the next four years with the soundtrack with me. I travelled to many of the countries featured in the doco and also saw Dead Can Dance perform live in London. Those experiences continue to have a profoundly positive effect on my life. THIS is the only musical act which to me matters, because they have an amazing unique ability to completely transcend music performance to where it becomes more than just music, it becomes a meditation, a means to travel outside - or even inside - ones body, to places never even imagined.
I've been listening to and actively involved with creating music for well over 40 years and I have never heard of music output on such a level as what pours out of Dead Can Dance.
Once they are able to tour the states, I will make it a point to catch at least one performance, as I can only imagine how life changing that must be as well.

Lisa Gerrard is a musical goddess. She has a style unto herself with her voice, in both quality and the fact that her lyrics are invocation most of the time, rather than any specific language. She can also play a whole host of instruments which mostly died off from music decades or more ago.

Allen Strough, very eloquently described and so very, very accurate! I was so blessed to have had the opportunity to see them perform at Radio City Music Hall in 2005. I was never in my life so deeply moved by any musical performance than I was while listening to/feeling this song that night. It truly embraced the depths of my soul and shook my spirit awake! Sobs of joy and sadness all at once from all over the music hall (myself included). Much love and peace to you. 😌

Do yourself a favor and rent/find a copy of the movie "Baraka" which is where all of this movie is taken from. You'll recognize some of the music for sure. The band Dead Can Dance is not from Italy, I suggest google or wiki them for Brandon Perry/Lisa Gerrard's origins. They broke up but very recently have gotten back together for a new album and world tour; I'll be seeing them in Nashville for my birthday. I am extremely excited to say the least.

I remember reading the story of the Rainbow Serpent (Yulunga) at school. It was in this big, hardback book filled with folklore stories and legends. I can't remember what it was called, though.
EDIT: Googling "the Rainbow Serpent", I've found what that book was called! It's "Folk Tales and Fables of the World", written by Barbara Hayes, and illustrated by Robert Ingpen.

No large words from me down here..... I'm concentrating on breathing and fighting my mind while I listen.
Then I gave up and let the thoughts enter and stay a while so I can decipher them, taste them, chew them and spit them out if needed

Wow thats a lot of comments, titty comments, anti semitism comments, momma's ghost comments, even got some topless white cheerleader comments. Hell we got comments from 7 years ago, when some of you where just little kids. Well DCD been round for awhile and I'm glad, call their music whatever you like, it is here now and the small miracle is that new people find it once in a while and like a good book it will be relevant whenever you find it .....

This song has one of the sexiest drums I have ever heard. I talk about it in my Spiritual Drumming workshops/presentations. If alotted enough tyme, I actually play the song for the participants so that they can experience it. (With a subwoofer!)
